I started taking Yoga and I love. I'm not a total novice. Both my parents do it and I learned some moves as I grew up but finally started learning for myself and I had the best nights rest in a long time.
I got this video with Sara Ivanhoe and it was a great fit for the style I want to do (more cardio, less strength.) She's not hard on the eyes either. ![]() |

Well I'm 26 and in shape, so that probably helps me enjoy more than some others.

Maybe you can start your own brand of Yoga."This is man eating cookie position...from here we roll our arm over and spread to reach for the beer pose." |

What do you recommend for beginning Pilates? I'd like to try it. But, I don't want to go to a class until I've tried it on my own.

I must admit that I watched my wife get in the most amazing shape of her life doing little more than walking and yoga. I was convinced that she was on something and then decided to try to do yoga with her. It kicked my A$$! We now do it together several times a week and I feel stronger and have more stamina with each session. We use Bryan Kest's Power Yoga series - the guy is an absolute freak of nature! Needless to say, I am sold.

My body never bent very well and it is even worse as I grow older. My preference is 30 minutes every morning on a Nordic Track machine. I now have the front legs propped up on a 4x4 to increase the resistance. I do it first thing in the morning and can listen to sports talk to keep from being bored. |

ok what exactly does yoga consist of? isnt it just stretching for long periods of time? ive read that like eddie george does it(in the SI Players section) and know that different teams do it along with karate for improved flexibility, core strength, etc. but what exactly do you do?

Sometimes (OK, much of the time) you feel a bit silly and don't feel an immediate effect from the various positions. However, as time builds and the strain on your muscles increases, the sweat starts pouring and you start to see why athletes are interested. The result for me has been increased flexibility, stronger tendons (at least that has been my experience), increased endurance and, apparently, better sleep (though that is beyond my control). |

The best part is the meditation at the end because after you've got all these endorphins(sp) running through you, you can sit and clear your mind of the days woes and just contemplate. Good stuff. Last edited by Kaylore; 08-22-2006 at 01:09 AM.. |

One last thing for folks that might be interested, make sure you drink sufficient water afterward. You might not feel like you are working, but trust me that you are loosening all that lactic acid that builds up over a hard days work (or in my case, a hard day pouring over my computer) and if you don't adequately hydrate you will be sore as hell - at least I sure was the first time I did the power yoga.

If you only tried/used it once, it takes some practice
