Default Interesting take on an old old story

Apparently Redskins offered three 1st rounders for Cutler, plus a second round pick and Jason Cambell and we rejected it for Orton... For anyone interested...

I don't believe you read that correctly. The 3 firsts and a second referred to what the Skins could have done with the draft picks they ended up sending to the Rams. It was clear that both the Bears and Washington offered 2 ones and a QB - and Josh liked Orton better than Campbell.

Very interesting find, though it did not seem from the interview that Redskins ever offered 3 first round picks and a second round. What was said was that it was McDaniels initial demand, and that Dan Snyder had offered two firsts and Campbell.

What is also in there is that Chicago upped the ante with the 5th for 3rd flip, that McDaniels had preferred Orton as a QB to Jason Campbell, and that Brandon Lloyd was an ancillary benefit that McDaniels liked.

Chicago offered more picks and a better QB, so the tabloid headline is a bit off

Watch the video:

Josh McDaniels calls and says "We're ready to do this"

Redskins say "What do you want?"

Josh says "3 1s and a 2"

Redskins say "Is that it?"

Josh says "3 1s, a 2 and Jason Campbell"

----------------------

It's like Josh intentionally ****ed us (and Jay) at every turn.

I'm sure the fact that we were the only team in the NFL that had a winning record vs. the Belichick/Brady-era Patriots had nothing whatsoever to do with that.

It's possible. I think the simpler solution is that Josh is just a petty little b**** that wanted to show Jay who Napoleon really is.

Agreed -- he was (still is) a petty, egotistical little tyrant. Some of his blunders were of such magnitude, however, that I don't buy for an instant that they were unintentional (trading a 2010 1st rounder to move up in the 2nd round of the 2009 draft, for instance).

When was Orton EVER considered better than Campbell?

Of course, the only comment Xanders could've offered is where to get the best 2 for 1 deals on pizza.

It should be noted that McDaniels remains a very coveted head coaching candidate who many believe has a bright future ahead of him in that regard, while Orton was thought highly enough that, after threatening the Cowboys with retirement and getting his release, the Bills promptly signed him to a lucrative contract as insurance should EJ Manuel falter this season.

I like the comment

WAY too many words dedicated to an article about Jay Cutler. He is a tool and way overrated.

Where did you get that from? It was spelled out pretty well. Josh basically gave a 1st round pick for Orton.

Yea, it must have been the most pressing thing on Bilichick's agenda to sabotage the scary Cutler led team that put up 7 points against the Cassel led Patriots. If I was in his shoes a team that lost 41-7 to my backup QB would make me quiver.

Lets not forget it was the Jake Plummer led Broncos that was Brady-Cryptonite, and Cuddles had nothing to do with that other than reducing Broncos to irrelevance during his term.

I agree with springstein. You guys are reading it all wrong. The three firsts discussion is all about rg3 and what the skins could've done with those lost picks had they landed cutler instead.

Plummer Cutsper Smack Talk. YESSSSSSSSS!

This thread is sweet. Gives me a real feel for how living on the OM felt back in 2006.

Exactly ... what a fool. He probably would've wasted the pick anyway ...

Rev is right, what Josh really wanted was to show "the player" who was boss.

Yeah and Jay really showed McD what a mistake he made trading him by sending his Dad to drop off his playbook.

this thread should be deleted. It's clear that the OP confused the cutler offer with the rgiii trade compensation.

Not yet. Kaylore needs to come in first to let Willynowie have it and then Willy cries and never comes back to the Mane. This has to go through proper channels first.

NO!
Vinny: "Dan (Snyder) always wanted the franchise quarterback, he's always wanted that guy. So when you're that close, picks don't matter."

Vinny: "I get a call at 11:30 at night, it's Josh McDaniels, and he says we're ready to do this. So I say what do you want? He says we'd like three ones and a two. And I say, is that it? Is that all you want? It was like Draft Day the movie."

He concludes Orton was the difference, they couldn't change Campbell into Orton. He said nothing about RGIII compensation ... Griffin wasn't drafted til a couple years later you wre joking?)

I think its true, or at least the truth according Cerrato: Josh gave up a #1 for Orton.
