DENVER BRONCOS HEAD COACH MIKE SHANAHAN
On the status of DT Gerard Warren “He dislocated his toe, and it’ll be anywhere from two-four weeks or something like that (time missed due to the injury). You just want to make sure it’s healed before you start working and it lingers throughout the season. That’s the doctor’s estimate at this time. A dislocation is obviously bad, but if you fracture it, you’ll be out for the season.” On if he was happy with aggressiveness at practice today “Yeah, we had some good work today and any time you go for nine days, these guys are tired and you like to see what they can do when they are tired and they are pretty sore and their legs are gone. I was pleased with the way they fought through it, and that’s just the nature of going through these two-a-days, which are some of the things you have to go through. Overall, I think we have had a good nine days and they deserve a day’s rest. We’ll meet tomorrow evening and get ready to go on Monday.” On what type of impact the loss of DT Gerard Warren will have on the preseason “Well, I‘m not worried about the preseason. Gerard’s an experienced guy and you always like to keep your guys healthy and there’s nothing like playing in game situations. Hopefully, Gerard will be ready for the season.” On WR David Kircus “David is having a good camp. He’s got great speed and he’s picking up the offense. We’ve been through the installation about four times so next week we will get ready for Detroit (Lions) and just kind of go through our practices. We won’t throw the kitchen sink at them, so they will be able to relax and kind of concentrate on the plays at hand. I think it will just keep getting better and better.” On DE Courtney Brown “He’s just got a little inflammation there (knee) and we don’t want to put him out there too quick. We’ll see how he does day-by-day.” On whether DE Courtney Brown will play in the preseason game at Detroit on Friday “It all depends on what happens this week.” On QB Jay Cutler’s progression during training camp “He’s very sharp. He picks things up quickly and it’s not his first week. This is the fourth time he’s been through it. He picks it up as quickly as anyone. He’s very, very sharp, very accustomed to the passing game and very impressive to where he is at this time.” DENVER BRONCOS QUARTERBACK JAY CUTLER On his progress thus far in training camp “I feel pretty good. We have been doing some two-minute stuff, which is a little different. We’ve been putting some combinations and stuff together when we are out there by ourselves. Other than that, seven-on-seven and the running game, everything’s been pretty good so far.” On whether moving up the depth chart is one of his goals “No, I am not worried about it at all. We are all getting reps out there. Jake is getting a few more. Me, Bradlee (Van Pelt), and Preston (Parsons) are all mixing in there. What ever happens, happens.” On the advice Head Coach Mike Shanahan is giving him on tight throws “They do not want to take some of that stuff away from me. I am going to try and sneak some balls in there when I can. I think that I have done a good job of checking down and not forcing things. There are definitely times where I see something and I am going to try and stick it in there.” On the connection between him and the receivers “These guys are tired out here. We all feel for them because they have had nine straight days of running. They are doing a great job for us right now.” On what he is going to do with his day off “Maybe go and buy some furniture, maybe a couple beds, couch, and maybe a couple end tables. I will probably go to dinner, and after that I don’t know what is going to happen.” On whether he is feeling like he is taking something off his throws because of his strong arm “Not really. On some of the deeper stuff maybe, but the daggers and the comebacks I am still firing them. We are not throwing a whole lot, and my arm feels great.” On the speed of playing in the SEC at Vanderbilt “I am seeing a lot. I am seeing defenses and coverages, rolls and blitzes. I am seeing all of that fine right now. The speed of the SEC is pretty quick, but obviously this is a step quicker. I think playing in the SEC and in those atmospheres and against those defenses really helped.” On his grasp of the offense “I feel really good about it right now. The only problem right now is just the two-minute drills because we have to put stuff together out there on our own. When we are in team and in seven-on-seven and on our run plays and things, I feel fine.” On what he wants to improve upon in week two “Our run checks. I think our running game is almost as complicated as our passing game, maybe even more complicated. I have just been concentrating on getting our run checks down and what we want to do in different situations.” On whether the game is slowing down for him “It is definitely slowing down. I am starting to see things right before the snap. I have been seeing rolls and where everyone is going. It is taking time, but it is coming.” |

I don't think so...what gives me pause about all this is the incoming media barrage over Cutler and Plummer....it looms on the horizon.

Jay is a very bright young man. If he's already getting the hang of the pre-snap reads, he's ahead of the curve. I cant wait to see him on the field. He's the total package.

"He's an intelligent young man who understands the game and doesn't make a lot of mistakes," coach Mike Shanahan said. "He really plays well. I really liked the way he handled himself."
