Oops - better to have it and not need it, right..?
And only a moron would take his gun into a bar.

I forgot to mention my Moose Cane has glass eyes. Whoever carved it was pretty meticulous. I hadn't even noticed till I cleaned and oiled the hand carved wood Moose head.

I stayed after the Bronco/Pats game and snuck into the Pats lockerroom to obviously try and wrench what sweat I could from his Superawesomeness himselfs socks, alas all I was able to get was his underarmour jockey shorts, which I wiped all over my body. Now my body is inpenetrable to everything besides his Superawesomeness himself. Man that sounds bad.

NO, only a criminal does as it is not legal to carry a weapon into ANY place that serves alcohol, not even in Texas.

And the person that gave that scenario is a shining example of a moron that is clueless about both guns, the people that carry them and the laws associated with owning one.

Pretty much everyone I know owns a gun. None of them take it with them except when they are going on road trips, or camping, or some other place where law enforcement may not be as readily available.

This seems logical. Personally, I think some people who carry, especially against the law, are a bit paranoid and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them finding themselves "needing" their weapons when the introduction of a deadly object could only escalate a potentially dangerous situation.

Personal opinion, though. Pretty uncommon to carry a piece in southern California.

Fine. I'll give you clueless about gun laws, I'm certainly not prepared to engage in a debate of any kind of validity because I'm admittedly lacking information. Just based on what some people have posted, though, it seems to me that some folks are willing to go above the law for personal reasons.

Again, my personal opinion is that if someone were to lose their temper irrationally or get into a stupid situation, often it would be better to not have a gun around. Yes, it's stupid to escalate a fistfight into a shooting, but there are tons of stupid people out there owning guns (you say everyone you know owns one...) and people can get irrational. Ever thrown a punch at a buddy in the heat of the moment? Sure.

Don't get too mad at the hippie tree hugging non-carrying californian

ed: Re-read your post and noticed most people you know only carry only when law enforcement is thin. Fair enough, but I still wouldn't want to run into you in a bad mood.

over here just about everything you could carry as a weapon is banned, the police in glasgow (knifing capital of the world) do random stop and searches on the subway and at train stations now so there's no point inb carrying cos its a 5 year jail sentence now to try to dter people from using knives. i never carry anything and never would. i'm a big guy so nobody seems to try to start fights with me

Sometimes, I carry either a Colt Pony .380 or NAA Guardian .32 ACP.

I live in a small town, so I don't carry them all the time, but I do have a CCL for when I do carry.

Several states have amended their CCL laws to allow guns to be carried into restaraunts, even if they sell alcohol. Most of these states have come up with some method for seperating bars (not legal to carry) from alcohol serving resataunts.

Are there more people carrying guns legally with permits or people carrying guns illegally? I think its more of the latter, though I suppose there is no way to know for sure. Most of the homisides I see in the news were done with illegal/non permitted guns.

For some, not all, carrying a gun will give a person a sense of invincibility which may actually get them in more trouble if they try and use their gun when confronted with a situation where they need to be brave.

I wont carry one, but I dont have a problem with carrying guns, I just wish there was a better way to control the people who do - to make sure they really know what they are doing.

Like I said earlier, look up the percentage of CWP carries that have commited crimes with their firearms, it's a very small number.

Most days I don't really metabolize the vodka from the night before until ... I dunno 10-11 a.m. And, since I only allow myself one crap a day, at around 6 or 7 am, depending on whether I'm gonna jog before work, by early afternoon I have gas that even causes my eyes to water, and I like the way it smells. So, somebody ficks with me, I just crap myself.

Agreed. Also, in this state, they spend a fair amount of time telling you what is and is not acceptable to use your gun for self defense. For instance, if you are 6'6" and a 5'5" skinny punk takes a tree branch and smashes in your window, you will not be able to claim that you feared for your life. In this state, you may only use deadly force when you believe your life is in danger.

I think for the most part, people that intend to use a gun for a crime, don't spend 8+ hours learning about gun safety and when it is and isn't legal to use a firearm in self defense.
