Default Broncos sign RB Damien Nash

Quote:
Broncos | Nash signed
Thu, 3 Aug 2006 15:03:02 -0700

The Denver Broncos have announced the team has signed free agent RB Damien Nash (Titans). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Here's his prospect profile from the '05 draft. This guy had some serious attitude problems coming out, so hopefully he can get his head on straight here in Denver.

Quote:
OVERVIEW
Nash was an impact player at tailback who was expected to be the team's heir apparent to take over for MU career leading rusher Zack Abron, who was lost to graduation after 2003. Off-field issues with the coaching staff proved to be too much to overcome in 2004. After being suspended by head coach Gary Pinkel, Nash decided to test the pro waters instead of returning for the 2005 season.

Nash has a lethal combination of speed, quickness and power that had Tigers fans quite excited about his future. He began his collegiate career at Coffeyville Community College, where he redshirted in 2001 and played in only one game in 2002 due to a knee injury.

Nash started once in 2003, gaining 462 yards with five touchdowns on 89 carries (5.2 avg) and caught 11 passes for 105 yards (9.5 avg) and a score in 2003. Despite his problems with the coaching staff at midseason, Nash started eight of 10 games in 2004. He rushed 164 times for 792 yards (4.8 avg) and seven touchdowns. He also showed good receiving skills, hauling in 25 passes for 176 yards (7.0 avg) and a score.

In 23 games with the Tigers, Nash started nine times. He carried 253 times for 1,254 yards (5.0 avg) and 12 touchdowns. He also made 36 receptions for 281 yards (7.8 avg) and two scores.

JUNIOR COLLEGE
Ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 3 JUCO tailback prospect in the country and No. 23 of all JUCO prospects (all positions) … Rated as the No. 45 overall JUCO prospect (any position) and as the No. 5 running back in the JUCO ranks by SuperPrep … Redshirted as a freshman at Coffeyville C.C., and was limited to just one game in 2002 after injuring a knee in the season opener … Junior college coach was Jeff Leiker.

ANALYSIS
Positives: Compactly built runner with a solid upper-body frame … Quick coming out of his stance, getting into top speed immediately … Sudden in his movements, gaining advantage over the defender with his juking moves … Has good field vision, easily spotting blockers down-field and seeing the rush lanes, running through the holes with awareness … Picks and slides through the inside holes at a low pad level … Changes his angles properly to reach the outside corner when the inside rush lanes are clogged … Displays fluid lateral agility and the balance to spin, plant and drive with no hesitation in order to gain more yardage upfield … Effective hands catcher in the short area.

Negatives: Struggles when he has to lower his pads to push the pile … Unproven blocker who shows willingness, but lacks technique … Needs to mature off the field … Appears more comfortable running on the edge than up the middle … Makes an effort as a blocker, but his contributions in this area are minimal … Needs to polish his route running as he tends to round his cuts and looks hesitant coming back for the underneath passes.

INJURY REPORT
No injuries reported.

AGILITY
4.55 seconds in 40-yard dash.

Do not count out this kid, Coach Lieker at coffeyville told me without the knee injury he would have rushed for 2000 yards at that level, he was named the starter over Brandon Jacobs of the New York Giants until the injury. I have watched him on tape, he is explosive and quick, if his attitude is right, he can excel. I will tell you when I seen him on the sidelines I thought he was a linebacker, the boy is built. I think it is a great pickup

Default Nash

He is listed at 5' 10" 220.
He was run out of TN for being overweight and
out of shape.
Talk shows here in TN say he is well over 250 lbs.

Maybe he will be traded to the Chiefs as a tackle, he's just a snack shy of Turley's weight.

I think he was just signed to take Johnson's spot...who was originally cut to accomodate the Woods signing.
