Bob Stoops Press Conference Quotes...
Thought you guys would enjoy these....
hopes the fans will rally around PT...says PT has always been a team player...asked him to assume the QB role, but told him to go home and consult with himself, with his parents, before making a decision. PT came back and said, "Coach, I'm your guy."
"This program is about much more than any individual."
"OUr compliance staff looked into it. It was Oklahoma's compliance staff that found out about it and looked into it."
Says the fans shouldn't hold it against Hudiberg, as he's the new owner and this didn't happen with him as the owner.
"I believe this will be it." - regarding extent of violations
"We have...it's our first seminar of the year. The compliance staff comes over and reviews all the rules and regulations...We go over everything."
"I don't need to get into how upset I was, or what my reactions were."
"Summer jobs are through the university or through our office."
Both players have apparently apologized to the university.
"I felt this was the only right thing to do for our football team and the university."
Stoops said he will grant them a release and help them both go somewhere else.
On the idea that OU is just cheating again...
"There can be that perception for some...You do the best you can and with the most integrity that you can."
"I don't believe Rhett had that much experience that we're losing. I didn't think coming into this year that it was Jason White coming back after his Heisman year. I was never here trumpeting us for the national championship. Do I believe we can compete for the BXII championship? Absolutely."
on PT being named the starter...
"This isn't anything against the young guys, but they don't have the experience that Paul does. Joey...needs more experience, as does Sam Bradford."
on Rhett being named starter last year...RB and PT were even and PT had had more snaps. Felt that Bomar would be the better QB with more snaps so they went with Rhett. Says they can be more flexible with the offense this year and tailor it to PT's strengths, whereas they didn't do that last year.
"If people are not going to be upfront, or lie, or not comply with what you tell them to do, I don't know if there's anything you can do... In the end, people have to make the right decisions for themselves."
"Young people are incredibly resilient."
"We'll push forward."
"This program is about much more than one individual."
"The NCAA has already looked at it."
RE: Bomar and Quinn "They are gone for good."
RE: NCAA inquiry "I believe this will be it"
Compliance staff was not told that Rhett and Quinn were working. The players did not comply with the rules and did not inform the compliance staff that they were "working" with BRSI.
"we can't spend every minute with them, the compliance staff can't spend every minue with them... they are plenty old enough that they understand the rules."
"We have the first seminar every year, the compliance staff comes over and reviews all of the rules [with the players]... it's their responsibility to know where their at.. and I get up and reiterate it.. in a way that I feel they understand it.. it's talked about many times."
RE the punishment: "I felt this was the right thing to do for our team and our university. I felt this is what it had to be.. because of the nature of it, and the time of it."
"I will help them [to get to other universities]. Even though they've stung us in a big way.. I will grant them a release."
RE a black mark on your watch: "Disappointed definitely. There can be that perception for some. I will caution people.. to look at it in a perspective that it wasn't us as a program and it was a few individuals that chose to do it."
With PT "We still have a chance to be awfully good [to win the Big XII, etc.]."
"No question that the amount of experience that PT has for us [is a deciding factor in naming him the starting QB at this point]."
"It was an awfully close competition between Bomar and PT...Did we play to Paul's strengths? I don't know that we did."
"We still like the way Paul throws.. but we can taylor it to be more plays that he is comfortable with"
"Sometimes a group of players who have done little.. have a big reputation overall."
What steps can we take to avoid this in the future: It's a good question, but If people are not going to be up front and comply with what they need to do [there isn't a whole lot you can do].. in the end people have to make decisions for themselves... when they are not right, you have to act on them."
Did some of the other players have to resist what these two players did not: "I couldn't tell you that."
Summer Jobs: "When done the right way there's nothing wrong with it."
How much does it bother you that the pristine reputation is gone: "It bothers me, but when you look at these incidents..... Adrian's situation.. we looked at it.. and it was not a violation."

Thanks Sooner, I didn't get to see the presser but they are talking about it here. I feel for you sooner. I'm sure it sucks to have to deal with this as a fan right before the season starts. I think you guys will still be tough. The game this year just got alot more interesting.
What do you think about the talk of Stoops going to the Pro's ?
