I have XM myself, and can't understand the terrestial radio stations reason for doing this. There are still commericials, you have to go out and buy an HD receiver, and there's still no foolproof way to make sure that you dont get static.

on the other hand, satellite radio rocks. with so many music channels sans commercials, talk radio, comedy...too many to mention

granted, it does cost about $12 a month, but once you've heard it, you'll never go back. I havent listened to terrestrial radio since November of 2004.

obviously not, since I havent listened to terrestrial in almost 2 years

its just my opinion....they advertise it as clearer sound, but change nothing about the commercial format

Well, I'm interested in the sound quality since XM will be broadcasting in it soon and I have it for my truck and boat.

Have you listened to DVDHD sound quality yet? It's a cut above regular DTS, Dolby etc...

As we say in the business, music is just filler until the next commercial break. For every one person that listens to satellite radio, 1,000 are listening to "free" radio.

Back to the point on hand, HD makes FM sound like a cd, and AM sound like FM. It's really a gimic for those that want the updated technology, but really no point in getting a receiver unless you have a busted antenna on your vehicle. FM comes in fine for my car and home. I had satellite on the car for 3 months after I first bought it, I only listened to ESPN radio. Never really found a music station that didn't play one good song followed by 10 crappy ones. Just wasn't worth it. I have a 6 disc changer if I want wall to wall music that I enjoy.

hey man, thats cool, thats why its great to have choices.

XM has about 6 million subscribers. It blows Sirius out of the water in terms of # of listeners, but it doesnt have anywhere near as many as terrestrial radio.

from the people that I talk to at work that still listen to regular radio, most often the things that come up is price. I guess most people dont feel you should have to pay for radio, and thats cool.

My dad got me hooked on XM, and I love it. Some people don't. thats cool too. I understand that there are a lot of people that can't afford it, or just dont want it.

I'm not trying to start an argument (certainly not my intention), I just dont think it'll take off as many people think it will. I may be wrong, who knows.

Regardless, I'm glad that there are choices out there so each person can make an informed opinion.

No I agree with you on HD radio not taking off. I see it as a gimmick for the guys that have to have the latest technology.
As far as satellite goes, I wish they'd do something, both companies stocks are plummeting and have been for a couple months. Sirius got a nice boost back when they inked Stern, but it's burned off. Look at it this way, I know it makes me cry at night. I could have been a subscriber to both companies for over a year with the money I've lost in their stocks.
