The Denver Spurs select D - Guy Lapointe (Canadiens, Blues) with their next pick.

Lapointe was part of Montreal's famed "Big Three" defenseman in the '70's and '80's along with Larry Robinson and Serge Savard. He helped Montreal to six Stanley Cups in that era.

He was a solid checker and opposing goalies feared his slapshot, which was particularly effective on the Habs' lethal powerplay. Being a solid two-way player was something he worked hard on throughout his career.

Those Cheap Bastards select:

Sid Abel, C, Red Wings/Black Hawks

Sid Abel excelled in a number of capacities during his extended hockey career. On the ice, he was an accomplished playmaking center and team leader who contributed to three Stanley Cup championships in Detroit. Abel also fared well as an NHL head coach and television commentator. His life in hockey, centered mostly in Detroit, made him one of the most recognizable figures on that city's sporting scene.

After spending a year each with the Saskatoon Wesleys and Flin Flon Bombers in Canada's western junior system, Abel played 15 games with Detroit in 1938-39. He didn't look out of place but was sent to Pittsburgh of the AHL to work on his overall game. After splitting the next season between the Motor City and Indianapolis of the AHL, Abel plied his trade in the big league on a permanent basis beginning in 1940-41.

In only his second full NHL season, he averaged more than a point per game playing on the Liniment Line with Don Grosso and Eddie Wares and was selected to the NHL Second All-Star Team. Abel's excellence contributed to the Wings' Stanley Cup championship run in the 1943 playoffs. That year he also served as the team's captain at the age of 24.

Abel missed two full seasons due to military service during World War II but returned for seven games toward the end of the 1945-46 season. While in the service, he was based in Montreal and skated with the RCAF and the city's Car team. He also spent part of the year in Britain, where he managed to get on the ice with the Wembley Lions.

In 1946-47, he was teamed with wingers Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay for the first time. The line clicked and began to dominate opposing defenses. In 1948-49, they were dubbed the "Production Line." Abel led all Detroit scorers and was the recipient of the Hart Trophy--only the second Detroit player so honored after Ebbie Goodfellow, in 1940. The next year, Abel set career highs with 34 goals and 69 points. That same year, Lindsay, Abel, and Howe finished 1-2-3 in the NHL scoring parade and the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup.

Along the way, Abel picked up the nickname "Boot Nose" after he taunted Maurice Richard and paid for his insult with a punch that broke his nose. Abel topped the 60-point mark for the second time in his career in 1950-51, then earned his third Stanley Cup ring with Detroit in the 1952 post-season. In a heart-wrenching move, the Wings traded him to Chicago on July 22, 1952, bringing an important era to a close. It was a difficult yet prudent decision for general manager Jack Adams since Abel's best years were behind him.

During his two years in the Windy City, Abel tried his hand as a player-coach. He scored only nine points but, more importantly, realized that he truly enjoyed instructing the players. Abel was encouraged by the role he played in getting Chicago into the playoffs for the first time in nine years. He retired as a player early in 1953-54, then took some time off before planning his next move.

Partway through the 1957-58 season, he took over the Red Wings' coaching position when Jimmy Skinner was forced to resign due to an illness. The coaching assignment ended up lasting a decade, nearly as long as his playing career. Under Abel's guidance, the Red Wings reached the Stanley Cup finals four times--1961, 1963, 1964, and 1966. They captured the regular-season championship in 1964-65 but were upset by Chicago in the semi-finals.

Abel added the responsibilities of general manager to his portfolio in 1962-63, a post he held until 1970-71. One of the major transactions he oversaw was the blockbuster trade that brought Frank Mahovlich to Detroit and sent Norm Ullman to Toronto in March 1968. While still holding the position of Detroit general manager, Abel was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1969.

In 1971 Abel accepted a post as scout and player consultant with the expansion Los Angeles Kings. A few weeks later he couldn't resist the chance to become the general manager of the St. Louis Blues, where he remained until 1974. At one point in 1971-72 he stepped behind the bench on an emergency basis for ten games. Abel followed this up by taking on the same responsibilities with the expansion Kansas City Scouts in 1974-75. Although they finished with only 41 points that first season, Abel's Scouts accumulated nearly double the number of points that their expansion cousins, the Washington Capitals, did.

If I can, I will...But I'm not giving up any players currently on my roster. If she wants to move up..My next pick for her last pick, maybe, then we can do business.

Their true genius lies in how they get their hot chocolates so goddamned hot. It's insane.

Anyone like my new Avatar/sig? Made them myself.

I think the Stanley cup in the background is a little ambitious, though. I got it from a pic of Scott Stevens hoisting it up.

Woo-Hoo!

Killericon is happy to select Theoren Fleury.

At 5 feet 6 inches, Theo Fleury is one of the smallest players in hockey, and he had to disprove many doubters and skeptics to become a bona fide NHL star. Intense and fearless, Fleury made a name for himself for more than his stature he could score, play defensively and lead teams to championships in junior hockey, in the NHL and on the international stage. In 1984, as a 16-year-old,Fleury joined the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL. In his second year he emerged as the team leader, and in his third and fourth years he became a star for his offensive achievements and for his entertaining, all-out style of play. In 1986 he was invited to the training camp for the team that would represent Canada at the World Junior Championships in Czechoslovakia. Scouts were already voicing the opinion that Fleury would be too small to play in the NHL, giving Fleury that much more to prove as a member of Team Canada.
Fleury brought his typical pesky game to the championships, but was involved in an infamous brawl that cost Canada a chance at the gold medal.
Fleury was selected in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, but not until 165 players were chosen ahead of him. The Calgary Flames chose him with their ninth-round pick, projecting him as a potentially entertaining addition to their minor-league club in Salt Lake City. Fleury played a final season in Moose Jaw in 1987-88, and he tied Swift Current's Joe Sakic for the league scoring title. He also racked up 235 minutes in penalties as he stepped up his aggressive play to combat the criticism of his size. He once again played in the World Junior Championships, this time as team captain in an uneventful affair in which Canada won the gold medal. Fleury was named to the tournament's All-Star team.
Though Fleury was confident in his abilities, the Flames seemed less than sure. They signed him to a pro contract late in the 1987-88 season, just in time for him to join Salt Lake for the IHL playoffs. He seized the opportunity, scoring 11 goals in 8 games and leading the Golden Eagles to the Turner Cup championship. He began the next season in Salt Lake but an outburst of 37 goals and 74 points in only 40 games finally convinced the Flames that he deserved a chance to play in the NHL.
Used at center and at right wing, Fleury helped the Flames capture the Stanley Cup in 1989, and in his first full season he scored 31 goals. In 1990-91 he netted 51 goals and 104 points, and he made his first appearance at the NHL All-Star Game. Prior to the next season he played in the Canada Cup tournament, and he went on to score 30 goals in each of his next three seasons. He was also among the league leaders with 29 during the lockout-shortened 1994-95 season.
Though outspoken and often brash, aggravating opponents, Fleury matured in time, becoming team captain in 1995. He continued to pick up honors for his hard work, including a berth on the league's Second All-Star Team in 1995 and spots on Team Canada's roster at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, the 1998 Nagano Olympics and later down the road Canada's Gold Medal Olympic Team in Salt Lake City.
On November 29, 1997, Fleury scored his 315th career goal, passing Joe Nieuwendyk for first place on the Flames' all-time list. In February 1999 the Flames, who felt they wouldn't be able to re-sign Fleury when his contract expired that summer, traded him to the Colorado Avalanche. He ended up with a season total of 40 goals and signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers during the off-season.
The dimunitive forward went on to play three seasons on Broadway before joining the Chicago Blackhawks for one season in 2002-03. He now plays in Ireland.

If he had played as many games as Steve Yzerman(my measuring stick) he would've scored 610 goals...Which would've placed him 12th on the all time list.

Because of the growing length of the list, as well as the addition of the alphabetical listing, I'm only going to repost the list every 5 picks or so.

Bronco LB 52's time has expired(He really needs to clear out his messages).

Killericon selects the only Flame to get his Number Retired, LW - Lanny McDonald(Maple Leafs, Rockies, Flames).

Lanny McDonald's hero while growing up was his father who had taught him the value of hard work and honesty on the family farm in Craigmyle, Alberta, about 22 miles from Hanna. His mother was a teacher in the three-room school that McDonald attended through grade eight. In school he had to refer to his mother as Mrs. McDonald, but outside of the classroom he was raised with a deep sense of family and community. McDonald would carry those qualities with him throughout his life. He was the youngest of four children and learned to develop his shot by shooting pucks against the basement wall with his older brother. The only "live" hockey he witnessed in his childhood was when he would tag along with his sisters to watch their boyfriends play hockey in nearby towns. McDonald had learned to skate at the age of five and after years of minor hockey he left home at age 16 to try out for the Lethbridge Sugar Kings, a Tier II team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He made the team but was unspectacular in his first season, registering only two goals in 34 games.
The following season his production increased to 37 goals and 82 points in 45 games and he was high on the list of many an NHL scout from that point until draft day. McDonald was an AJHL Second team All-Star in 1971 and was named to the Western Canadian Junior Hockey League First All-Star team in 1973 as a member of the Medicine Hat Tigers.
He was rated as the Western League's most complete player in 1972-73 and led the Tigers with 18 playoff goals in 17 games, playing alongside Boyd Anderson and Tom Lysiak. Scouts always mentioned three qualities when they described McDonald; a great shot, a good skater, and tough as nails.
McDonald was Toronto's first choice, 4th overall, in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft and got off to slow starts in both his rookie and sophomore seasons. Everything seemed to come together by his third season and he more than doubled his point production from the previous year. His fine showing earned him an invitation to the Team Canada training camp in preparation for the 1976 Canada Cup tournament. He appeared in five games for the host country and assisted on Darryl Sittler's series-winning overtime goal against Czechoslovakia. The highlight of his Leafs career came in the 1978 playoffs when he scored in overtime of game seven to eliminate the New York Islanders and send his Leafs into the Stanley Cup semi-finals.
McDonald was known for his blistering shot off the right wing and when he took the body hard in the corners players felt the contact and remembered it. He was a tough, clean player and was named to the NHL's Second All-Star team in 1977. McDonald also played in the 1978 All-Star Game and was a member of the NHL squad that played the Soviet National Team in the Challenge Cup series in 1979 to replace that year's All-Star Game.
When he was traded to Colorado by Toronto on December 29, 1979, the Leafs' faithful showed their displeasure by picketing outside Maple Leaf Gardens. McDonald continued his superlative play in Denver and although team success eluded the Rockies he was chosen to play for Canada in the 1981 World Hockey Championships.
McDonald happily returned home to Alberta when he was traded to the Calgary Flames by Colorado on November 25, 1981. He provided the Flames with the best hockey of his career and recorded a career-high 66 regular season goals and 98 points in the 1982-83 season. He was selected for the second time in his career to the NHL Second All-Star Team in 1983 and was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for his "perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey."
The 1988-89 season was a banner year for McDonald; he won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, the "Bud" Man of the Year Award, scored his 1,000th point on March 7, 1989, against Winnipeg Jets, scored his 500th goal on March 21, 1989, against the New York Islanders, and won the Stanley Cup with the Flames.
McDonald scored his first NHL goal at the Montreal Forum in 1973 and scored the last goal of his career again at the Forum, in game six of the 1989 Stanley Cup finals. It was with his usual class and dignity that McDonald chose to retire from the game after the 1989 playoffs.
Former Calgary teammate Jim Peplinski once said, "If you want to be good inside and outside the rink, Mac's a good guy to pattern yourself after. He's first-class all the way."
McDonald was always available to assist charities such as Big Brothers and Ronald McDonald House, but the Special Olympic remain his special interest. "Seeing those faces is as nice as scoring 66 goals; its a saw off," he once said about his work with the Special Olympics.
He was a Vice-President with the Flames organization for many years following his retirement and was named general manager of Canada's entry in the 2001 World Championships.

He retired with 500 goals.

Jori is on the clock.

Nice pick -Slap-...I've alway had a soft spot for him. With 2 minutes left in the 2002 gold medal olympic game, he ran back to the locker room and grabbed his video camera. Pat Quinn told him to go out for one last shift, and Nolan said "I can't, I'm busy." Caught the whole last minute and post-game celebrations on film.
