C Bobby Clarke Philadelphia Flyers

Robert Earle Clarke

Born Aug 13 1949 in Flin Flon, MAN
Height 5.10 - Weight 176
  • Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987.

  • Despite a brilliant amateur career, Clarke lasted until the 17th pick in the second round because he was diagnosed as a diabetic as a teenager.

  • Captained the Philadelphia Flyers to Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975. The "Broad Street Bullies" were the first expansion team to win the Cup.

  • Won the Hart Memorial Trophy 1973, 1975 and 1976.

  • Played in the NHL All-Star Game in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977 and 1978.

  • Captained Team Canada to victory in the 1976 Canada Cup.

  • The WHL named the award for its top scorer after Clarke.

  • His number 16 was retired by the Flyers in 1984.

  • Clarke retired after the 1983-84 NHL season, having scored 358 goals and 852 assists for 1210 points and 1453 penalty minutes in 1144 games. At the time of his retirement, he was 4th all-time in assists and 10th in points.

  • Wayne Gretzky has remarked that it was Clarke's play "from behind the net" that inspired him to improve that area of his game. Most regard Gretzky as the best ever from that position on the ice.

Killericon is happy to finish off his first unit with his first true Blackhawk, and selects C - Denis Savard(Blackhawks, Canadiens, Lightning)

In an age that featured Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Paul Coffey, talented centre Denis Savard often stood out on a given night's sports highlights. His lethal blend of speed, improvisational trickery and cockiness helped his linemates and teams soar during the 1980s and '90s. Born in the Montreal suburb of Pointe Gatineau, Quebec, Savard registered 455 points as a sensational junior on the hometown junior Canadiens. He gained national attention for his end-to-end rushes and for centring the productive "Trois Denis" line with Denis Cyr and Denis Tremblay. All three were drafted into the NHL, and, more amazingly, all were born on the exact same day in the same year! In 1980, Savard scored 181 points and was named to the QMJHL first all-star team.
As the 1980 Entry Draft approached, most observers figured the young phenom would be claimed by the Montreal Canadiens first overall. The Habs opted for Doug Wickenheiser and Savard fell to third overall where the Chicago Black Hawks were delighted to call his name. The youngster scored 75 points as a rookie and formed a solid line with Ted Bulley and Tim Higgins. Al Secord replaced Bulley the next season and scored 44 goals while Savard emerged as an NHL superstar with 119 points. He also scored 11 goals in 15 games as the Hawks upset Minnesota and reached the semi-finals.
In 1982-83, Savard formed one of the top lines in the NHL with Secord and rookie Steve Larmer. The productive trio led the way as Chicago registered 104 points and reached the semi-finals for the second straight year. Between 1982 and 1988, Savard topped the 100-point mark five times including a personal best 131 points in 1987-88. He was named to the NHL second all-star team in 1983 and helped Chicago reach the semi-finals in 1985, 1989 and 1990.
The tricky pivot returned home when Chicago traded him to Montreal for Chris Chelios prior to the 1990-91 season. By this time, Savard had lost a step and the Habs were a team in transition. In 1992-93, Savard scored 50 points and played 14 games as Montreal won the Stanley Cup. Although he was not dressed for the clinching game, the veteran was on hand to hoist the Cup on ice with captain Guy Carbonneau in front of the delirious Forum crowd.
Savard joined the second year Tampa Bay Lightning in 1993-94 and contributed 18 goals along with veteran savvy. Late in the 1994-95 schedule he was re-acquired by the Hawks in time to add depth to their post-season roster. The rejuvenated pivot recorded 18 points in 16 games to help Chicago reach the Western Conference final. Savard recorded 35 assists and was a +20 for Chicago in 1995-96 as the club extended the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche to six games in the second round of the playoffs. The talented veteran retired after playing 64 games for the 'Hawks in 1997 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame three years later.

Killericon stops a slide that should've ended long ago, and picks up Dino Ciccarelli.

Sarnia, Ontario's Dino Ciccarelli took the NHL by storm in his rookie season with a dominating performance in the 1981 Stanley Cup playoffs. Ciccarelli, who was born on February 8th, 1960, played 32 regular season games that year but played a major role in the Minnesota North Stars surprising march to the Stanley Cup Final when he scored 14 goals and 21 points in 19 games. Ciccarelli built on his rookie success, scoring a career-high 106 points on the strength of 55 goals in his first full season. As a North Star Ciccarelli not only developed into a consistent goal-scoring force, but he quickly established a reputation as a gritty, aggravating forward scoring the bulk of his goals from the top of the crease, and usually after absorbing considerable punishment from opposing defenceman and netminders.
In March of 1989 Ciccarelli's successful run with the North Stars was over. He was traded along with rugged defenseman Bob Rouse to the Washington Capitals in exchange for sniper Mike Gartner and scoring defenceman Larry Murphy.
With the Capitals Ciccarelli continued to play his gritty style of game and scored consistently, however, Washington's repeated playoff failures caused Capitals management to make some changes and Ciccarelli was dispatched to the Detroit Red Wings in the summer of 1992.
The Red Wings were a club with lots of scoring talent, but they lacked a top forward with Dino's grit and tenacity. Ciccarelli was an instant success in Motown scoring 41 goals and 97 points. In 1995 Ciccarelli made his second trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, but the Red Wings fell to the New Jersey Devils that spring, though Dino delivered nine goals.
With his point totals shrinking and the Red Wings looking to re-tool for a serious run at the Cup Ciccarelli was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the summer of 1996.
With the Lightning Dino played the role of the wily veteran, and bounced back with a 35-goal and 60 point season, just two off of the team lead. But despite his success, the team still floundered in the standings and Dino was traded cross-state to the Florida Panthers during his second season in Tampa.
Now clearly in the twilight of his career, Ciccarelli was brought in to help push the Panthers, who had been surprise Stanley Cup finalists just two years before, to the next level. Though the Panthers didn't make the playoffs that year, Ciccarelli reached a personal milestone scoring his 600th career goal.
His final season came in 1998-99, a year that Ciccarelli was limited to just 14 games due to chronic back problems. At season's end, the Panthers released Ciccarelli. With a career of cross-checks finally catching up with his back, Ciccarelli retired ranked 9th in league history in goals scored. This total is even more impressive when you factor in that Ciccarelli was never even drafted. Due to a broken leg suffered as a sixteen-year-old, Ciccarelli was passed over in the NHL entry draft and joined the league as a free agent signee.
Ciccarelli returned to the game in his post playing career purchasing the Sarnia Sting of the OHL along with his brother. Throughout his career Ciccarelli played over 1,200 games and finished with 1,200 points.

He is 13th all time with 608 goals.

Damn, I was really hoping Park would slip just a little further. I'm going to need a little while to reconsider my options.

I want me an enforcer! Those Cheap Bastards select:

Bob Probert, LW, Red Wings

Bob Probert (born June 5, 1965 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey forward. Probert played for the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. While a talented player in his own right, Probert will always be known for being one of the greatest hockey fighters ever to play the game. Probert was also known for his on (and off)-ice antics, as well as being one half of the "Bruise Brothers" with then-Red Wing teammate Joe Kocur, during the late 80s and early 90s.

Playing career in Detroit

Probert was drafted as the 4th pick in the third round (46th overall) in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft, in which the Red Wings also selected Kocur and the recently retired captain Steve Yzerman. Prior to playing with the Detroit Red Wings, Probert was with the Brantford Alexanders of the Ontario Hockey League. After being drafted, he spent one more season with the Alexanders before spending his 1984-85 season with both the Hamilton Steelhawks and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL.

The 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons saw Probert spending the majority of his time with the Red Wings, while occasionally playing for their minor league affiliate at the time, the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League. While he wasn't the most prolific pointmaker in the 1985-86 season, he finished third on the team in penalty minutes, behind Kocur and Randy Ladouceur, both of whom played more regular season games than Probert. In the 1986-87 season, Probert accumulated only 24 points, but amassed 221 penalty minutes.

The 1987-88 season saw Probert not only develop upon his fighting abilities, with an astonishing 398 penalty minutes, but it also found him tying for third on his team in points with 62 (Petr Klima also had 62 points). That season, he played in his first (and only) NHL All-Star Game, and he contributed the most points during the Red Wings playoff run, in which Yzerman went out early with a knee injury.

However, in 1989, while crossing the Detroit-Windsor border, Probert was arrested for possessing cocaine. He would end up serving 9 months in a federal prison and would end up banned from the NHL. The ban was lifted in 1990. This would be the first of many incidents that made his use of cocaine, and later, his growing alcoholism, very public topics.
[edit]

Fighting

Probert will always be remembered as one of the very toughest fighters to ever lace up skates in the NHL. His long list of fights is filled with a substantial number of elites goons

He had two long fights with Craig Coxe of the Vancouver Canucks in the mid-1980s, both of which featured each man pummeling the other with flurries of right hands and Probert getting the edge in each tussle.

He also was involved in two historic battles with Tie Domi of the New York Rangers in the early 1990s. Both fights took place at New York's Madison Square Garden. The first battle saw Domi rip Probert's jersey off and land several powerful left hands, one of which opened up a large cut on Probert's forehead. Probert landed his fair share of punches as well, but Domi's impressive showing prompted him to wrap an imaginary heavyweight championship belt around his waist as he skated to the penalty box.

The much anticipated rematch took place several months later at the Garden. Less than a minute into the game, the two dropped their gloves, and Probert, obviously raging and anxious to engage, started things off with a flurry of right hands to Domi's face and helmet. Domi then got started with his left hand, and the two proceeded to wail away on one another for nealy a full minute. Probert knocked Domi to the ice to end the fracass, and as the two skated to their respective penalty boxes, Red Wings' captain Steve Yzerman could be seen on the Wings' bench mocking Domi with the same fake belt gesture with which Domi had mocked Probert just months before.

Another memorable Probert fight was carried out on February 4, 1994, against Marty McSorley, then of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The fight took place on Probert's home ice, at Joe Louis Arena. The two men, both weighing upwards of 230 pounds, blasted away at one another for nearly 100 full seconds, with Probert landing a few more vicious shots than McSorley. McSorley was cut over his left eye by a Probert right hand bomb midway through the fight—a punch which temporarily knocked Marty to his knees. However, McSorley regained his skates and resumed trading punches with Probert for another 30 to 40 seconds. Both players were exhausted at the end of the fight, yet found enough energy to give one another a manly embrace with a mutual respect for the battle in which they had just been involved, before skating to the penalty boxes.

In his career, Bob "The Bad One" Probert took part in many other classic hockey fights against noted ruffians such as Todd Ewen, Troy Crowder, Donald Brashear, Stu "The Grim Reaper" Grimson, Bob McGill, Dave Semenko, and "Big" Jay Caufield.

Probert is widely regarded as being one of the best fighters in the history of the National Hockey League.
[edit]

Leaving the Red Wings

When Probert returned to the Red Wings after his incarceration and subsequent ban from the NHL, he temporarily found himself as one the Alternate (or Associate) Captain of the team, along with Gerard Gallant. While his penalty minutes remained high, he averaged 40 points a season. During his last season with the Red Wings, he accumulated merely 17 points for the team.

At this time, Probert was once again finding himself in trouble with the law. On July 15, 1994, Probert suffered minor injuries when he crashed his motorcycle into a car while driving in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. At the time of the accident, a local newspaper reported Probert's blood-alcohol level was as high as .31, more than three times the legal .10 limit. The accident came just two days after Probert had been pulled over for erratic driving and had been unable to produce his license. At the time of the accident, Probert had been ruled an unrestricted free agent. Given added controversy, Detroit decided not to make another contract offer to Probert. On July 19, 1994, the Red Wings announced that Probert was no longer part of the team. "This is the end," said senior vice-president Jim Devellano. "[In] my 12 years with the organization ... we've never spent more time on one player and his problems than we have on Probert."
[edit]

Playing career in Chicago

Probert's time with the Blackhawks was not the best of his playing years. His first season with the Blackhawks would be the last that he would accumulate over 40 points within a season. From then, his points and penalty minutes would both begin to decrease. In addition to this, Probert would end up sustaining various injuries during his time with the Blackhawks, most notably a torn rotator cuff injury which would cause him to miss most of the 1997-98 season. One of the more noteworthy occurrences of his career with Chicago is that he scored the final NHL goal at the historic Maple Leaf Gardens on February 13, 1999.
[edit]

Retirement

After the 2001-02 season, Probert was placed on waivers by the Blackhawks. Because he was not picked up by another team, he was advised that his role with the Blackhawks would be limited, or even relegated to playing in the minor leagues again. On November 16, 2002, Probert opted to "unofficially" retire so that he could join the Blackhawk's radio broadcasting team. He had finished fourth on the NHL's all-time list with 3,300 penalty minutes.

His stint with the Blackhawks radio team did not last long. In February 2003, it was reported that Probert went back to rehab. During the 2002-03 offseason, Probert formally announced his retirement.

After retiring, Probert continued to have brushes with the law. In 2004, he was arrested for allegedly parking his BMW SUV on the wrong side of the street and entering into an altercation over drugs with bystanders. Several police officers intervened and unsuccessfully tried to wrestle with Probert in an attempt to subdue him. Then Probert was struck in the leg several times with a billy club by a policeman, also to no effect. He was subsequently zapped four different times with a taser gun before he was able to be subdued.

Probert was later acquitted on all charges related to this incident.

**Yeah, I love the fact that my enforcer can fight off several cops and multiple blasts from a taser gun!

I'm actually surprised this guy is still around (especially after Probert was picked, sorry JCM ). With the 69th pick I select LW - Valery Kharmalov (CSKA Moscow).

Most Soviet hockey experts agree that Kharmalov is the best non-goalie to play for the Soviets/Russia. Kharmalov was a small, fast wing that was hard to stop when he had the puck. He was considered a sniper in his day and also played with creativity uncommon for such a great shooter.

The only things that could stop Kharmalov on the ice were Bobby Clarke and his stick, which intentionally slashed Kharmalov's ankle in the famous 1972 Summit Series (I'll have to draft a few enforcers later to keep Slap's Clarke away from my new player).

The only things that could stop Kharmalov off the ice were automobiles. He was seriously injured in a 1976 car accident that almost ended his hockey career and was killed in a 1981 car accident, ending his life at 33.

Ilya Kovalchuk wears #17 in honor of Kharmalov.

Thanks for helping me out with how you type out your players' names, guys. Big help.

May I say, I am impressed at how reluctant you guys are are at picking the bastard that is Claude Lemieux...He could've gone as far back as the 3rd round given his production, and ability to produce Stanley Cup rings...
