I've been on teams before where I was the best player, and come playoff time when my team was counting on me to be the best player on the field, to carry them to the Title, make those one or two plays that make the difference, I didn't come through. That off-season, I made my apologies, ate my humble pie, and the next year I turned it up a notch in the playoffs. I played the entire year just to get to the playoffs, I pushed people hard to make sure we made the playoffs, because I was planning on taking my game up that one notch further where you win a playoff game and the title game all by yourself.
I think Champ has to do that same thing. The NFL is so competitive, the windows of opportunity are so small, you need 1-2 guys that are on a mission, that can carry a team in big games, make the awesome never to be forgotten play. Champ's the guy on this team. Bell can do it also. Who else? Rod is a steady guy, he'll move the chains, Dayne also. Where's the big play guys? Darrent I think will have a good year, I think he has big play written all over him. |

I don't think that Champ has to carry the team. The opposition is only going to throw limited passes against him to keep the D honest. IMO, what a team needs is someone each week to step up. For the limited amount of time he got on the field, it seemed like DEVO would make a game changing play once a game there for awhile. Whether it's a no name corner in by injury named Castille making the "Fumble" or a Mark Jackson, everyone has to take advantage of their chances.
One of the oddest of all came with the revenge tour and Darrious Gordon. That guy played his ass off with interceptions and huge returns literally all thru the wild card to the SuperBowl. He came out of nowhere as a marginal player, had one streak where he should of been in Vegas...then Greasy Al gave him a fat paycheck to cash and he went back into obscurity, was traded or released, and kicked around a couple more years and faded into a vague memory. But for those 4 games in 97, he was all world. The problem with Lelie was that he could make big plays, but usually it wasn't in a critical situation. He had a couple, but for the home run hitter to get 2 TD's was absurd. In his defense, Jake would tend to lock onto Smith or Putz in those situations. I can understand Lelie wanting to have a bigger role, but to demand something totally absurd in a contract year was ludicrous and ill advised IMO. I think out of the youngsters, we have filled our cupboard pretty well. Obviously, Cutler has the tools of the future. Walker will be a fine WR, DWill was impressive out of the gate, and Chef has playmaking ability as well. Oh, and Baby T.O. without the 'tude shouldn't be overlooked. Hixon is an unknown but out there. Oh yeah...if Dumervil can make the transition to a third down sackmaster, that's impact as well. |

Somebody has to step up and make big plays. I don't know who it's gonna be but SOMEBODY has to. The last game of last year, NOBODY made a big play, and that's what f's a team up in the playoffs. Somebody has to make something happen, or else you don't win in the playoffs. Ideally, you have eleven guys making plays all over the place, but to not even have one guy play better than he did in reg season, yeah, you're gonna lose.

No shame in losing to the Champions, but it was a poor effort. Jake had a horrible game and DWill probably shouldn't of played at all. Foxworth looked ill prepared...or something. He had a Roc Alexander type game. That game wasn't even as close as the score.

Gold came back from Tampa a vastly improved player. He was thicker, stronger and just as fast with better instincts. Sorry, your just wrong and won't admit it.

I'll stand up and proclaim Ian a stud if he actually does something. Especially in a big game.
I'll stand up and say Champ is a stud if he does something in a big game. Champ disappeared bigtime in the AFC Title game last year. And the team gave up Portis, potentially an HOF back for that? Champ is gonna have to stand up and have a superb playoff run, as I stated in the start of this thread. And, naturally, he's gonna have to have as good or better a reg season as he had last year. That's what I expect from the highest paid player on the team. |

Champ dissapeared because they were roasting Foxworth constantly on the other side of the field.

I am gonna say that the dark horse who steps up and really makes sum plays on offense will be Cedric Cobbs(i just don't see Tatum or Dayne carrying the running game all year) and on defense Cory Jackson, something about him makes me think he can be a beast.
And as long as Rod can be his usual self, and Jake has a legitamite number 2 receiver who will hang onto the ball and if 1 or even 2 of the other receivers can contribute and if the TE spot can contribute 40catches and 5 TD's. iF the defense can make plays like they did ast year, but contribute sacks and prevent as many passing yards as they had against them last season, Then Denver easily wins it all this year. This team currently is the perfect match of youth and veteran leadership. This is the closest Denver is ever going to get to having a team like the Super Bowl teams in 97 and 98. |

Tell ya what - just before the season starts, I'll start a thread again titled "If You Have Won a Championship, Post Here"
There won't be too many people that post. Championships are god-awful hard to win. It still pisses me off that there is maybe one other person besides myself that realizes what a huge accomplishment six AFC Titles is. To me, one of the big story lines before last years AFC Title game was the competition between Denver and Pitt for the most AFC Titles. And almost everybody but a very few missed that, the biggest competition the two teams were competing for. Apparently, even the Denver players missed that. I don't know what the rest of you think, but I think that was the most disgusting, heartless loss I've ever seen the Broncos dechieve. That implosion, that gutless loss at home was the most humiliating loss I've ever seen by the Bronco organization. |

Back to the topic, I think Champ was one wasted trade. To trade Portis, the best back in NFL history in his first two years for a reg season wonder like Bailey was stupid. Bailey totally disappeared in last years AFC Title game, even got burned for a TD in the red-zone, easily. One of the stupidest trades I've ever seen.
