Default OT: For the Maner's in realty and law enforcement

I don't know what I could accomplish with this, but I am a little PO'd.

I've been trying to sell my home. It's been on the market since the end of Feb., so three solid months. This whole time the sign has been about three feet off the curb. Today I get an email from the wife saying a cop stopped by and very rudely told her the signs were in city zone and needed to be moved. He didn't even say where they needed to go until she asked. We are having an open house this Sunday so my realtor put a sign on a busier street three blocks away. The cop told my wife (rudely with his back turned to her) that "if your realtor wonders where the sign is she can come by the station and pick it up." WTF! I don't really care that the sign is sitting further back, but how it was handled really makes me steam.

So you stuck a for sale sign on a busy street a few blocks away. Sorry I hate when people plaster crap up everywhere. Your yard thou he should not care where you put one in there.

I don't think the problem is people putting it up...the problem is people not coming back for it.

this is another example of having too much police...because obviously they don't have enough to do.

Just like you should show respect, they are OBLIGATED "supposedly" to do the same. They are supposed to be working for US and that's conveniently forgotten all to often. He didn't have to play a Barney Fife on your wife. All the prick had to do was call the realtor and tell him to have it moved. I assume the sign had a phone number. What an a-hole.

I'll tell you what I hate - political signs. They've already started going up here, and it's barely June. By September, they will be everywhere you look.

Politicians are scumbags.

Good luck with that Idea mock most cops think they are far above everyone. I have talked to a few that were nice but I think the majority of them were mistreated as children and are seeking a power trip to get even with the world.

There oughta be a law! I'm having these creepy visions of Hillary signs allready. She's scarier than the Man-Goblin.

They should have to wait till September. August at the earliest. It's June 6th!

I swear, if she gets to be president, I'll...

...clutter up the Religion and Politics forum with spam posts filled with anti-Hillary slander (and lots of smileys).

And people wonder why everyone is so down on cops. If they just do their main job and let the back page of the law book alone i'm sure people would have more respect for them. They have to much power.

I don't think they have too much power. I think in situations like these they need to use better judgement.

Call your Agent and have her office get in touch with the Police about the way the matter was handled. Unless the police have an ongoing feud with the realty company there is no reason to be rude about the situation. His behavior should be reported to the betterment of the whole community. Coming from the realty office keeps you at a distance.

It wasn't a little sign on a telephone pole it was the realtor's "Open House" sign with an arrow pointing towards our house, which wouldn't have been left.

What also makes me mad, it looks like he only enforced this on only half the homes for sale in this podunk town.

That's another thing....be consistent. Of course...some busy body could have complained. But I think he should communicate that to your wife.

Swedes are generally mellow. There's no reason to start a running feud with this clown, he will just up the antie.

As a police officer of 17.5 years I can tell you my department is VERY public relations oriented. I know its wrong but some officers face personal problems they take to the streets and dish it out on the public. Most officers join the force to "make a difference" in their comunities. Through the years we become hardened and skeptic, we get a "don't trust anybody" mentality and believe everyone is out to get us. This is brought on by frivelous tort claims, law suits, misrepresentation in the press, second guessing from the brass and civilian oversight committees who have days to look at an incident and figure out what should've been done when the cop in the field as only fractions of a second.

So before you bash all cops just remember, outside a firefighter or a soldier on the battle front, not many jobs require you to strap on a gun and body armour and make you pray that you get home at the end of your shift to see your family.

On a personal note, I just lost a buddy of mine when he wrecked his police cruiser into a frickin cow. A fricken cow!! He wasn't supposed to go this way, he survived Iraq and he gets offed by a cow?? His cruiser flipped 4-6 times and he was ejected and subsequently ran over twice by cars going in the opposite direction. So, cut us some slack!!!

I don't want to start anything with this guy, he has a great reputation. I've always heard great things about him. That is why he is the Chief. My realtor called the station and I guess someone filed a complaint. Who Beats me. Probably another realtor. The thing that bothers me the most is he didn't have to be so rude, especially to a 7 month pregnant lady.

Cops is no more noble a job then anything else. You don't deserve any special props for strapping on a gun. It's a choice you make and I'm sure most cops love the power of the position more then they love the community. I have a few H/S buddies that are now police officers and I can tell you for certian they don't do it to make a difference. The go straight to the Dept that pays the most or that will hire them. It's just like any other job really. It sucks your buddy died in a car wreck but the alot of truckers die on the road also. No slack will be given by me to any cops. I have dealt with police maybe 10 times in my whole life. Everytime they were either wrong or very rude. They are neccessary, they deserve the money they get for it, but they don't get anymore respect for a job done then anyone else that works hard. They also shouldn't get anymore sympathy when they die on the job. Commercial fishing and coal mining is just as dangerous and you don't see us putting them on a pedestal.
