Default Bush to New York: "Go F Yourself"

NEW YORK - From Times Square and the Empire State Building to the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty, New York is a city of spectacular landmarks. Ask any of the 41 million tourists who visited last year.

But according to the Homeland Security Department, New York has no national monuments or icons — a determination that led to a 40 percent cut in anti-terrorism funding.

New Yorkers are seething over the news, and some are demanding the firing of Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., charged that the Bush administration had "declared war on New York" with its decision to reduce anti-terrorism funding by $83 million while increases went to cities like Jacksonville, Fla., Louisville, Ky., and Omaha, Neb.

"I'm not begrudging any other city, but why would you cut the No. 1 target in the country by 40 percent?" said King, who demanded an investigation. "How can you possibly justify that?"

Schuster-D-NY, I heard him say 17% on Fox , not 40 % (but, I could be wrong). But , who's counting. I know my city got a hike , not sure for the reason, but it was hiked. I guess Omaha is high on the list of priorities for our NY congressman, for taking money away that is. Guess SAC isn't important. Schuster claimed an alaska town given monies is questionable also, or some little "rocky" mountain town. Why are they getting it? Hmmm....Well I'll give homeland security the BOD until facts comeout supporting their claims. Schuster basically called it playing "politics" WITHOUT anything to back it up. He and King both just said it. You are WASTING our time Mr. Schuster and Mr. King, back up your claims and quit crying. Then come talk to us...dman

sp is correct. Taxes will be raised to cover it. They're used to it, thats for sure.

{shaking head in disbelief}

Is there anything this joke of an administration can do that people like GB and dman won't try to defend, rationalize, or spin?

Sounds like this statement just flew right over your head:

Sounds like this statement just flew right over your head:

Sounds like they need to re-evaluate their priorities at the local level and not expect the federal coffers to make it happen for them. Just like you folks in LA. Thanks for keeping the illegals out btw... We appreciate ya

DHS is a federal agency - not a state or local agency.

The issue here is how DHS is allocating its funding.

A 40% cut to the state that is target #1 for terrorism (while increasing funding for Jerkwater, USA) makes no sense no matter how you spin it.

Look....sometimes other areas need to be strengthened....this is the time to do it. Relax. There is a finite amount of money...and the people that are running the DHS feel this is a need. I realize you work there and were heavily involved in the budget process...but the rest of us aren't employed there like you.

Jerk water....you know....you can post up about fair rights...and give this and that to whatever..and there is tyranny of there and here....but when you hit with that kind of language..places were people live..call it names....you're really as bad as that which you speak against. It's makes your hands just as dirty. I'm going to take away that lesson today. And try not to do that anymore. Thanks.

Now you're beginning to get it.

The issue is how that finite amount of money is allocated.

Cutting funding for the #1 target for terrorism by 40% while allocating more funds for cities that are not nearly as high risk makes no sense - no matter how many times you repeat your usual mantras, i.e., BushCo is never wrong about anything, don't criticize Bush, etc.

How hard did you fight for the further allocation to NY in the budget meetings at the DHS? And if you can....what type of position in DHS operations do you have? I'm interested. Because you sound like you complete knowledge for what's best to run that department. Please don't tell me you're calling out decisions from the cheap seats. Cause...that would just be dumb. Sensational in fact...I believe they call it yellow journalism. But I know you and you wouldn't do that...haha..son of a gun.

On to the other thing...Thanks again.

That has to be the dumbest comeback I've ever heard.

First of all, NY wasn't asking for "furrther" allocation - DHS is cutting 40% (almost half) of NY's existing allocation.

In case you forgot, NY was where those terrorist people attacked on 9/11.

So, you're actually going to sit there and tell me that cutting DHS funding by almost half is a good idea?

Second, no one has to "fight" for allocation of these funds - the DHS is supposed to analyze/prioritize where the funding is needed and allocate the funds accordingly - that's their job.

Got reading comprehension?

The story I posted here quotes a Republican Senator from NY.

If that's your idea of a "cheap seat" then you're further gone on the Kool-Aid than I thought.

NY Squandered Billions in 9/11 Aid

New York politicians allowed up to one-third of the $20 billion in federal aid awarded to the city in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks to be squandered right under their noses, an analysis by the New York Daily News found last December.
But that hasn't stopped some of the same politicians from complaining all weekend about a mere $80 million cut in New York City's federal anti-terrorism budget.
Senators Hillary Clinton, Charles Schumer and Rep. Peter King say they're outraged over the new cuts, with Clinton and King teaming up to launch a post-card writing campaign against the Department of Homeland Security. The bipartisan duo sounded a lot less angry six months ago, when the News uncovered evidence that billions in 9/11 cash had been misspent, gone unaccounted for and, in at least one case, was awarded to the Mafia.

"I pledge to do whatever has to be done to find out what happened and why," an uncharacteristically meek-sounding King said at the time.

Mrs. Clinton sounded similarly unruffled, offering only: "I think we need to pursue some of the leads . . . to make sure every penny is properly used."
The News study found that:
• Up to one-third of the $21.4 billion in 9/11 cash awarded to New York by the White House had been earmarked for major transportation projects that had no connection to the devastation caused on 9/11. • $150,000 was awarded to a securities firm that had gone out of business before the 9/11 attacks - plus millions more from the fund was earmarked for formerly self-supporting projects.

• $10 million in 9/11 cash was embezzled by a senior member of the New York medical examiners office.

• A 9/11 "clean air program" ended up giving away 118,000 air conditioners, when its original budget covered only 5,000 units. Total cost overrun - $115 million.
• An "associate" of the Luchese crime family allegedly got a piece of the 9/11 pie, dividing up anticipated reconstruction contracts with other New York City crime families. One mobbed-up 9/11 worker was listed as a $58,000 per year employee - even though he was in jail at the time.
• A whopping $154 million in grants and tax exempt Liberty Bonds was awarded to a single business - the Bank of New York. That small piece of the 9/11 jackpot represents nearly twice the amount of cuts in New York City's federal anti-terrorism budget.
Perhaps Mrs. Clinton can take some time away from her efforts to browbeat the DHS into restoring the $80 million in anti-terror cuts - and give New Yorkers an update on what happened to the billions in 9/11 aid that was squandered on her watch.

You're repeating it...and you believe it..you've passed it on......and you are in the cheap seats like always. This amounts to nothing more than New York b****ing because they didn't get the most. One of the jackasses even threatened the President. The article says they're receiving what's in line with years past and have received over 500 million since 2001 in federal funding. New York ain't the only game in town. Since you don't work for the DHS...I don't have a lot of energy around believing this is a problem.

God, you can't be this dense - you just can't!

Let's go slow:

1) NY is the #1 target for terrorism in America.

2) DHS funding to NY is being slashed by 40% (nearly half.)

3) NY should "get the most." (See #1.)
