40,000 women 'sex trafficked' for World Cup
German government supports import of mostly poor from Central, Eastern Europe

In response to reports that 40,000 young women will be brought to Germany from Central and Eastern Europe to "sexually service" men attending the World Cup soccer championship next month, a Catholic group warns that many are desperately poor and will be "sex trafficked" against their will.

The Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, or C-FAM, has launched a "Stop World Cup Prostitution" campaign on its website.

An estimated 3 million soccer fans – mostly men – are expected to descend on 12 German cities for the quadrennial sports event June 9 to July 9. Prostitution is legal in Germany.

Oh. The fans. I forgot about them.

My first thought was to wonder just how many prostitutes a couple hundred soccer players really needed.

40,000 seemed like a lot.

I guess the mind starts thinking that way when you have Culpepper on your FF team.

Gee, if the Catholic Church would support the idea of birth control, instead of encouraging these poor peasants to grossly overpopulate areas of the world that can't possibly sustain these populations - simply to sustain their dead religion - maybe these poor peasants wouldn't be forced to sell their daughters into the sex trade in order to survive?

Wow! Talk about a leap in logic! I am not a great supporter of the Catholic Church, but to put the total blame of sex trade on their door is just a tad ridiculous.

That was more over-reading on your part than me blaming them for the entire practice. They do their part.

I don't think it was over-reading at all. You pretty much putting all of the blame at their doorstep.

From the above text it would seem that if the Catholic Church would change their policies everything would be just swell.

I thought it was a jab. Maybe deserved. I wondered how many girls, and they are children, are from predominately RCC countries. Poland? I don't know that the RCC is particularly strong in other eastern and central european countries.

It was really no jab. Sometimes I can be simpleminded. I have reread his comment over several times, and see no way that it doesn't single-handily implicate the Catholic Church. I believe that you honestly did not read it that way. Therefore, I think that I may be a little dense in what he was saying.

I do agree with you that as many, if not more are taken. I have watched a couple of shows about slave-trading, and many are victims of kidnapping.

Slave trading is also alive and well in the US where Catholilcs pretty much ignore the church's admonition against birth control. It's a worldwide problem of astonishing proportions considering we are living in the 21st century. Some estimates put the number of CHILDEN forced into sexual slavery at more than a million a year.

Tragic...and little is being done to stop this horror.

Trading humans is a more lucrative black market than any other. I have read conspiracy sites/pages on some interesting things, including a documentary that never made it on TV about kids in boystown being sold out to politicians... local and nat'l.

If I wanted to jab you, I'd say, "What a dork." But I don't think you're a dork. We seem to have some differences where religion is concerned. That's all. I think we agree that the Broncos are the best team in the NFL.

I just strongly disagree with the Catholic Church's (or any church's) policies restricting contraceptives while encouraging the poor to have more and more children to add to the church. These policies perpetuate poverty. A lot of the sex slaves come from countries in Central and Southern America and Africa, where the church dominates the social order.

Never, ever let a Priest or a Politician near a young boy, and combining the two a guarantee of sodomy. (-:

I'm dense. Poland, yeah I see the RCC connection. But where are the children coming from? Latvia, Estonia, Georgia? Bushkazikistan? Are these places mostly RCC?

I see your point though. For the RCC to decry poverty when their contraceptive policy insures more poverty is a bit absurd.

Actually, I would take the word dork as a compliment. After all it is the name for a whale's penis, so I would figure you have been spy camming me when I use the restroom. lol

See, that is why we should encourage the use of quotes when replying. It would help me not end up looking like an imbecile. Not much, but maybe a little.
