Default Great Guitarists

A while back we had a thread about great guitarists, I thought I would provide a link to three different styles and virtuoso performances. These guys are very impressive, if not to some people's tastes. The one I think most people will enjoy is the last link, but don't pay attention to the instrument (in case you have a bias against it).

Some Flamenco influence.

A little country style

A George Harrison tune (While my guitar gently weeps). Quite impressive, considering I had a strong bias against the instrument he uses.

I always liked Mark Tremonti from Creed / Alterbridge. His guitar solos are amazing.

David Gilmour back in the early days of Pink Floyd. Both parts of Shine on you Crazy Diamond are brilliant.

And of course Jimmy Paige of Led Zeppelin. Listening to him play live on How the West Was Won is so much better than the studio recording stuff on the other albums.

No question: Hendrix. No one influenced more guitarist...Clapton, Townsend, Richards etc. and most everyone who came after him. They have all given him credit at some point in their careers. He was 'daddy' of rock gutarists. Les Paul should also get a strong mention.

If you have hammett - you have to have dave mustaine - afterall - he did write some of the music for the best metallica songs ever.

Mustaine is good
but Hammett is better

Mustaine is a better lyricts and singer than Hammett...

Hammett was trained by Satriani, he's got pretty good chops

and Mustaine's influence was only on the Kill 'Em All album, Hammett's best work in on Master of Puppets

i don't think hammett is better - and being trained by satriani means nothing..... he doesn't have the heart, or the anger to play metal.

obviously it's all subjective, but rolling stone magazine ranked white the 17 best all time (fyi, they ranked hammet 11th). i was surprised at that...until i saw him live.

http://blogcritics.org/archives/2003/08/28/123326.php here's the rolling stones top 100 (although this particular blogger definately agrees with your take on white).

I disagree with the list. I am not a huge 'dead' fan but jerry garcia is awesome. He can play anything with strings.

No mustiane, but they have hammet? They have adam jones, but not the guy from the doors (they play very similiar) - i have this actual album and i think of it as media masturbation.

they do have the guy from the doors. he's in the 60s i think. but the list just shows the whole 'beauty is in the ear of the listener' thing. i'm not really sure what their criteria was in making the list, but i don't think jonny ramone makes number 16 from technical merit.

ahh i did miss the doors - yeah ramone, 16?

If they are listing INFLUENCES, that's different than what i feel they are trying to accomplish.
