Default Did Anyone Hear this today?

One of my workers just came to my office saying they heard on the radio that Congress was going to let any illegal aliens that have a certain amount of working covered quarters to collect social security. Did anyone else hear this? I'm furious. It is bad enough that we allow legal immigrants to collect social security for 6 years until they gain citizenship and we can't raise a stink about it. Had a Senator from here tell me that there isn't anything we can do about it. Really? The reason is the American Public doesn't know about it and maybe if they did......well they know about Bush and nothings been done so he might be right.

I think the reason that Bush has been so passive about this issue for so long has to do with unions...

By allowing cheap labor to come into the country, they're able to drive down the costs of labor and affect union membership:

It's basically what Bush has been doing his entire presidency: anything to get the rich even richer...

um, Congress makes the laws not Bush. they made the original and incredibly lame immigration laws we currently have and they'll manage to screw this one up as well. bush is passive because the bottom line on immigration laws rests with Congress, not him.

p.s. and no, i haven't heard this on any news service or wire. of course, many do pay into the Social Security kitty already.

I am certainly not defending congress or Bush, but your chart shows the rapid decline in union membership and the explosion of imigrants began back in the 60's and 70's.

Juat a few republicans tht voted to kill it.

Brownback (R-KS)
Chafee (R-RI)
DeWine (R-OH)
Graham (R-SC)
Hagel (R-NE)
Lugar (R-IN)
Martinez (R-FL)
McCain (R-AZ)
Specter (R-PA)
Stevens (R-AK)
Voinovich (R-OH)

To qualify for full Social Security benefits, a worker must register 10 years of work. Under current law, illegal immigrants who obtain legal status can use their previous illegal work history to apply for Social Security benefits.

Kathy ham says it best....

Seriously, if you could see me now, I'm very Yosemite Sam. Very stampy and tantrumy and incoherent.

Just a few minutes ago, on the floor of the United States Senate, senators debated an amendment to the McCain immigration bill.

This is not, by itself, profanity-inducing.

But here's the substance of the debate-- Should ILLEGAL immigrants, once made legal by the McCain legislation, be entitled to receive the Social Security benefits they have paid into the system while ILLEGALLY using FRAUDULENT Social Security numbers STOLEN from actual, legal citizens of the United States of America.

The fact that this is even up for debate is just beyond insane. Everyone knows we will never have enough Social Security funds to serve, you know, actual citizens.

Every single one of those senators knows that, and they're debating whether we should extend such non-existent, unsustainable, budget-busting, generation-saddling benefits to millions of people who fraudulently entered the system by stealing the identities (and sometimes ruining the credit) of legal Americans?!?

Sen. Ensign, God bless him, offered an amendment suggesting illegals should not be eligible for Social Security benefits accrued while illegal.

The U.S. Senate voted to kill that amendment, 50-49.

Are these guys freakin' serious? I'm so disgusted I'm just hoping maybe my C-SPAN feed is faulty or I'm mistaken. I don't think I am.

I don't know who you were referring to but I was not insinuating that Bush has done nothing about this, I was insinuating that the American Public hasn't JUST like they've allowed Bush to get away with his crimes.

Yes they may have paid into it but in an illegal manner. My son in law was originally illegal and he's a hard worker. My problem is with the people they bring over from Iran, Iraq, Russia, Vietnam, etc and give those benefits immediately. Plus the fact that people who are working here illegally can dip into social security benefits that will possibly not be there when we are due ours. Give them to them when they become legal.

So, has Bush threatened to veto?

And who presently controlls the Congress?

This current Congress, to a degree that is unprecedented, is nothing but a rubber stamp for a president who thinks he's King George III.
