Iran eyes badges for Jews
Law would require non-Muslim insignia Chris Wattie National Post Friday, May 19, 2006 Jews were made to wear stars to identify them in Nazi Germany. Human rights groups are raising alarms over a new law passed by the Iranian parliament that would require the country's Jews and Christians to wear coloured badges to identify them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims. "This is reminiscent of the Holocaust," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. "Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis." Iranian expatriates living in Canada yesterday confirmed reports that the Iranian parliament, called the Islamic Majlis, passed a law this week setting a dress code for all Iranians, requiring them to wear almost identical "standard Islamic garments." The law, which must still be approved by Iran's "Supreme Guide" Ali Khamenehi before being put into effect, also establishes special insignia to be worn by non-Muslims. Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth. "There's no reason to believe they won't pass this," said Rabbi Hier. "It will certainly pass unless there's some sort of international outcry over this." Bernie Farber, the chief executive of the Canadian Jewish Congress, said he was "stunned" by the measure. "We thought this had gone the way of the dodo bird, but clearly in Iran everything old and bad is new again," he said. "It's state-sponsored religious discrimination." Ali Behroozian, an Iranian exile living in Toronto, said the law could come into force as early as next year. It would make religious minorities immediately identifiable and allow Muslims to avoid contact with non-Muslims. Mr. Behroozian said it will make life even more difficult for Iran's small pockets of Jewish, Christian and other religious minorities -- the country is overwhelmingly Shi'ite Muslim. "They have all been persecuted for a while, but these new dress rules are going to make things worse for them," he said. The new law was drafted two years ago, but was stuck in the Iranian parliament until recently when it was revived at the behest of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. A spokesman for the Iranian Embassy in Ottawa refused to comment on the measures. "This is nothing to do with anything here," said a press secretary who identified himself as Mr. Gharmani. "We are not here to answer such questions." The Simon Wiesenthal Centre has written to Kofi Annan, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, protesting the Iranian law and calling on the international community to bring pressure on Iran to drop the measure. "The world should not ignore this," said Rabbi Hier. "The world ignored Hitler for many years -- he was dismissed as a demagogue, they said he'd never come to power -- and we were all wrong." Mr. Farber said Canada and other nations should take action to isolate Mr. Ahmadinejad in light of the new law, which he called "chilling," and his previous string of anti-Semitic statements. "There are some very frightening parallels here," he said. "It's time to start considering how we're going to deal with this person." Mr. Ahmadinejad has repeatedly described the Holocaust as a myth and earlier this year announced Iran would host a conference to re-examine the history of the Nazis' "Final Solution." He has caused international outrage by publicly calling for Israel to be "wiped off the map." Iran does not yet have nuclear weapons, but Tehran believed by Western nations to be developing its own nuclear military capability, in defiance of international protocols and peace treaties. The United States, France and Israel accuse Iran of using a civilian nuclear program to secretly build a weapon. Iran denies this, saying its program is confined to generating electricity. |

I'm sure LABF will excuse it by saying they are badges of "honor". We all know how LABF makes excuses for that madman, being anti-semetic and all.

Did he meet the burden of proof in showing how I'm "anti-semetic(sic)?" Did he provide some example or other that would substantiate this idiotic accusation? Quote:

I don't make accusations like those w/o trying to back them up with facts or examples or sound arguments. But what am I thinking, expecting you to know the difference or to give an honest accounting? |

Sease Fire boys. The Common enemy here is the soveregn nation of Iran and her president. Allow me to step back and play devil's advocate here. Now Amedij...whatever the president of Iran is an evil bastard with nothing but bad intentions but please let me put in prspective maybe some of the reason he is trying to pull a tiger's tail.
1. There are now over 200,000 US troops in the region Not just in Iraq, but in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi, Turkey, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen ect. There are US war ships capable of giving a pretty good start to a war and then leaving that come within less than 50 miles of his coast. There are Air Bases that with thier combined fighters, bombers and recon planes can effect a great start toward Air Supiriority very quickly project and sutain Air Power against anywhere they want. Additionlly he knows we have more than 8,000 nuclear weapons. 600 of those can be anywhere in the world in 30 min or less or your next one's free. All of these things considered if you were the ruler of any nation would you do anything you could to bull---- the powers that control those forces as long as you could to keep not only your butt safe but to keep your nation from having to fly the stars and stripes next to it? He is the ruler of a nation who has the safety and wellfare of millions of citizens to think of. Now all that said, this guy is dangerous and likely a threat to our way of life if he can be. Given enough time I believe he could and would strike us at home even if it meant his fall just to make the people of our nation fear the Muslim world even more. One day it will come to it. When it does we cannot be so willing to be nice about our invasion. We cannot let the suddenly free and liberated people of Iran run about the country and reorganize into militia that attacks and then blends into the populace. If we are going to do it don't embed reporters because the people of this nation want a winner but they don't want to see the way we would have to do it this time. ![]() |

Your little buddy, on the other hand, just accused me of being "anti-semetic(sic)" without offering any justification whatsoever for this claim. |

I cited specific examples of behaviors Christ would not condone that you support, e.g., torture, invading a country on false pretenses in order to steal its resources, killing innocent men, women, and children, etc. Your buddy SteveTensi13, on the other hand, has not produced one shred of evidence or given one example to support his claim that I'm "anti-semetic(sic)." Your continued attempt to make the comparison you are trying to make here is nothing but a desperate act by a desperate man who knows he is out of ammo. |

If you can't handle conflict, then perhaps you should avoid forums designated for the discussion of politics and religion. There's also a neat little feature called "ignore" you might want to try. |

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha!!!! !!!
http://www.iranfocus.com/modules/new...p?storyid=7275 WASHINGTON (Reuters) - European countries have asked the United States to consider selling new airplanes to Iran as part of a proposed package of incentives aimed at resolving the nuclear crisis with Tehran, diplomats said on Friday. The Europeans have also proposed a regional dialogue that some hope could eventually draw the Washington and Tehran, adversaries for a generation, into direct talks. The package was formally presented to the United States, Russia and China shortly after it was agreed on Thursday by Britain, France, Germany and European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana, one diplomat told Reuters. When the United States first signed on to a European initiative in early 2005 aimed at persuading Iran to abandon nuclear weapons-related activities, it agreed to consider selling airplane spare parts as an inducement to Tehran. But Iran, under sweeping U.S. sanctions for three decades, has also asked for planes to modernize its aging fleet. One question for Washington now is "could we go beyond spare parts and consider providing Iran with new planes, which would necessarily need acceptance by the U.S.," a senior European diplomat told reporters. Another European diplomat said the package "will have some element concerning airplanes ... The proposal is framed toward what the Iranians told us they were interested in last year before negotiations ended." The United States and major powers are involved in a diplomatic stand-off with Iran over its nuclear program -- which the West says is aimed at producing nuclear weapons but which Tehran insists is purely a peaceful energy program. |
