Default Walker's new salaries as per NFLPA

Base Salaries

2006 1050000.00
2007 600000.00
2008 2100000.00
2009 5600000.00
2010 5850000.00
2011 6700000.00

With excessive roster/option bonuses hitting the cap in 2007 and 2008 totalling $15m that's a hell of a deal for Javon considering Donald Driver just signed a 4 year extension for a total less than 1/2 of Walker's deal, $17m to be precise.

He better win some ball games for us considering he's gonna be the highest paid offensive player on the field in a couple of years.

Haven't seen Herc around for a few days if he is I'd love to know if the bonuses hitting next year and in 2008 are 1 year cap hits or prorated over the term of the contract. If they arent Walker could be hitting the cap for approx $8m next year and as high as $10m in 2008. For that kind of money he better be giving the Broncos the same kind of influence on offense as Champ does on defense.

two years from now those salaries may be considered reasonable ... plus, there's always a chance that the Broncos will ask Walker to restructure and perhaps extend his contract a year or two.

Also isn't driver like 5 years older than Walker? With that in mind the 2 deals aren't really comparable.

That's a great structure. 1.6M in base over the next two years. That will be restructed in 2007 without a doubt.

Actually, I don't think they'll even touch it until '08. That year was created that way to show the Walker we were ready to put our money where our mouth is in terms of signing him.

We have an "out" after this season, so if he comes back and sucks, or we just dont like him, we can part ways.

I think he will be great for us, and i cant wait for the season for him to prove it.

Probably right. If Walker returns to form $2.1M will be a bargain in '07.

Exactly, unless he can't come back to full strength they'll poney up the dough. I'm also happy they left Champ's check alone. He earned every penny this year.

I'm not ready to jump on the $2.1 million is a bargain bandwagon just yet... Especially for a wide-out...

Looks to me like it's a two, maybe three year deal with the option for more years if he's producing. Most likely in '08 if he's showing his stuff, we'll convert a lot of that into bonus and get his base back down to minimum levels.

I believe those are unguaranteed bonuses, which means that the $10M in '07 and the $5M in '08 would not be prorated and count entirely in that cap year. Off course the Broncos could just guarantee the bonuses and they'd be prorated, so that's not a big deal.

They can convert that option bonus into a signing bonus no problem. It's a simple restructure. He gets all the money right away either way, it's just bookeeping. Man, that will buy alot of lap dances in the VIP room.

The interesting thing is, he only had 176 more yards and 3 more TDs in his one good year than did Green Bays #2 WR Donald Driver who as their more short to mid possession guy had 1208 yrds and 9 TDs in 2004 on 84 catches as Favres second option and just signed for HALF what Walker got!

Quite a lot extra Jack to pay for 176 more yrds and 3TDs! Had Driver been the #1 option in 2004 he may well have closed that small TD gap between them as well.

It's not unusual at all for the #2 to put up big numbers because he gets the #2 corner as well while the #1 is often doubled. That's why Lelie should'nt of be complaining. Wait till he's doubled if he lucks out for some lousy team.

Driver was the #1 in GB in 2004. Walker just happened to put up better numbers. My understanding is that the only diffence between 1 and 2 in the WCO is the routes you run, it has nothing to do with read progression.
