Default True May 1 Protest Story ... Interesting Read.

This actually happened to a Kansas soldier ... below is his story:
---------------------
Larry and I were at this counter-rally held at the corner of the
fair grounds. We did not see this happen, but I think I know who it
happened to. This e-mail was sent to me by a friend now living in
Topeka. It is gut wrenching...

Here is a letter that a friend of mine here in Emporia is
hoping that the local paper, THE EMPORIA GAZETTE, will publish. Please
feel free to pass this on to anyone who you think might be interested.
Due to security concerns, I will not include his name.

Dear editor: (Due to the nature of my service and as a security issue
please withhold my name, if at all possible.) I am a member of the
Kansas Army National Guard. I am a former marine as well. I returned
home from 15 month's active duty in Kosovo last January. I am scheduled
to re-deploy June 4th of this year for another 18 months and I will be
serving in a war zone which I am not at liberty to disclose. I
volunteered for this duty as an opportunity to serve my country again.

On Monday, May 1st, I was at the Lyon County Fairgrounds to observe the
immigration rally. On my truck I proudly displayed both the American
flag and the flag of the United States Marines. Within minutes of
arriving at the parking lot I was approached by no less than 4 law
enforcement vehicles and several officers. I was ordered to immediately
remove the flags from my vehicle. When I attempted to ask why, an
officer replied, "Shut your mouth and go home". I was told if I didn't
comply that I would be arrested without delay for disorderly conduct.
There was no opportunity to reason with the police. I was given an
ultimatum and was forced to comply or forfeit my freedom.

I'll not go into the obvious implications that this incident raises. I
will leave it to you and to your readers to explain how it is that as a
citizen and solider I was not allowed to display the flag of the nation
that I serve and protect. Meanwhile I stood in a sea of flags from
foreign nations, some waived by hand, others attached to vehicles. I was
also profanely insulted by one of the demonstrators who himself was
flying a Mexican flag from his vehicle.

I would ask that each of you who read this ponder the inference of the
actions of the officers in question, what it says about our country at
present and the ominous implications of the future. The immigration
issue is not a joke; it is a matter of huge proportion concerning the
security of our nation and the safety of our people. I have seen a lot
in my military career and many things have moved me deeply but not until
this heartbreaking incident was I literally reduced to tears. The
disrespect and outright hatred shown to me by both the demonstrators and
by the law enforcement officers of my own hometown was heartrending.

Some might question just exactly what I am serving for. I hope you can
find the answer in your own hearts. My conviction to serve still does
not waver.

From a highly reliable source, this actually did happen - and it really doesn't surprise me.

As a police officer I would have refused to carry out an illegal order to quash freedom of speech and assembly. Now try burning an American flag on my beat and you'll get a boot upside your ass!!

It appears that our government is more concerned about offending illegal aliens than upholding the laws of the land. Illegal immigration is a joke as are the plethora of protests for "immigration rights." Why isn't it called "illegal immigration rights?" That's what it really is.

Or more precisely, "illegal aliens". It appears FOX News is the only news outlet using the proper terminology.

I just cannot believe that a marine would allow that to happen without a fight.

Wouldn't it have been ironic to safely serve in Iraq only to be assaulted on American soil by an illegal immigrant?

So much for American pride.

I too would have politely said, "No, I refuse to remove my flag". And then, been wisked off to jail. At which point, after being bailed out, publicized the incident, ENSURED the major news networks got their hands on it, and watch what happens. The charges, persay, would have never stuck, however the police officers in question, should be horse whipped, and handed their pink slips. this is america, NOT ****ing mexico or any other foreign country..dman

You're a much nicer guy than I. I would'nt politely refuse, I would blatantly refuse. I stood up to Police who have infringred on my rights before, took them to court after being released from jail and watched the judge chastice the officers for their actions! JUST TRY TO DISHONOR MY FLAG OR PULL THE GUN FROM MY HANDS AND I PROMISE YOU WILL WISH YOU WOULD HAVE STAYED IN BED THAT MORNING!

It's just an old principal of mine my dad tought me. Don't believe everything you hear and only half of what you see.

It just doesn't make sense that the guy asked for his name to be witheld just because he is in the National Guard.

Also I don't believe a former marine would roll over to a couple rent a cops who said "Put your flag away". Especially if the guy just got back from Kosovo.

I sure as hell wouldn't put my American flag away if a couple of cops told me to. Why would he? This story is either BS or there is more to the story that the author isn't telling us.

Tailgate nut...I'm impressed , didn't think you had it in you....It does seem "a bit" far fetched, however, we'll see if the police in Kansas counter with a statement or its allowed to blow over. If it is true, yeah, I woulda been bailed out by now and head to the press for sure....dman

I see , so cause he asked not for his name to be printed , then it is all fake ? doesnt matter the reason why he didnt want his name used, pariniod are people also ........ I know alot of blood and guts vets friends of my dad that dont roll over , but they dont go overboard either with local law enforcement...I doubt the Marine isinnocent as this story makes him out to be but that doesnt matter , I saw a young kids in Dinos 6/85 resteraunt a few weeks ago that was a marine , kid couldnt fight his way out of a wet paper bag , but his Dad was damn proud , as Iwould be , but I couldnt imagine that kid tussling with law enforcement ..........

* I know SEALS at 5' 7" tall and 150 pds soaking wet, and they would beat pretty much any of us into a pulp. NEVER judge a book by it's cover...
