Default SI: Five Draftees in a bad Situation

Chiefs and Raiders made the list.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ft.luck/1.html

2. Tamba Hali, DE, Kansas City: For all the glowing reports on Hali's work ethic and production at Penn State, he's still going to a team that has had horrible luck with defensive linemen over the last five years. They can't get anything out of their top picks (Ryan Sims, a 2002 first-rounder, has been a bust, and Junior Siavii, a 2004 first-rounder, is close to sharing that label), and the free agents they've brought in have struggled too. Only one player, 2004 fourth-rounder Jared Allen, has exceeded expectations. There's just not enough talent to give Hali the help he needs to be effective.

3. Michael Huff, SS, Oakland: I hate to see great talents wind up in dysfunctional organizations. Unfortunately for Huff, the Raiders have become a place where even the most gifted of young players can underachieve. It has something to do with the freedom they get from owner Al Davis, who has a way of letting his favorite players do whatever they want while the head coach, Art Shell in this case, loses all credibility. It happened with Charles Woodson. It happened with Darrell Russell. And those are the people who could actually play. I'm hoping Huff is mentally strong enough to deal with an environment filled with very few characters worth following.

Incredibly stupid evaulation of the Chiefs.

We suck at drafting defensive linemen, so we should give up? How does that writer keep his job when he spouts complete crap like that?

With respect to past Bobo achievements I created a couple new nicknames for Hali:

1. Tumble Hali
2. Hali Berry

There not as good as the "Red Knight" *heavy sarcasm* but they should do. Any other suggests are welcome.

He didn't say the Chiefs should give up. He said Hali might as well.

Here is a formula for when you can't properly evaluate a position:

T
R
A
D
E

Now then, the secret is out and the writer can keep his job.

Ding, ding, ding, by george I think he got it! IMO, there were at least 2 better DE that the Chiefs should have taken. Glad they didn't.

While I don't disagree with this writer's assessment Junior Siavii was a second rounder in 2004 not a first rounder. Oh well, who has time for details.

Essentially, he did, yes.

According to this guy, the Chiefs are never going to be able to draft defensive linemen, so they should just give up.

Actually, he is right. They should give up. They havent done anything meaningful in 30 years so why start now?

He's not saying you should give up trying to find dlineman. He's saying he doesn't likes Hali's chances as a rookie because there is not enough talent to help him. He is also alluding to the fact they have not been great at evaluating dline talent. Bob brush up on your english comprehension

What this writer clearly doesn't understand is how inspirational Herm Edwards is.

How else are the Chiefs going to get talent? Trades? I can't remember the last time a team dumped a great defensive line talent through trade.

The way I see it, with Jared Allen on the other end, Hali is in a great situation. At Penn State he was their best pass rusher.

Herm Edwards once gave a speech so inspiring that a woman at the press conference gave spontaneous virgin birth to a 21 year old Tedy Bruschi.

Then you need to get your memory checked. John Abraham ring a bell?

I wouldn't call John Abraham "great." The Chiefs need defensive tackles, anyway.

Try reading what he said.

He said he felt sorry for Hali because of KC's history at drafting defensive linemen. He didnt say the Chief's should stop. He also pointed out that Hali is a great talent but will not get any adequate help from his compatriots in defenseless land that he will flounder.

Good evaluation if you ask me.
