Default OT: Interview

Well I am finally starting to move up in the world.... (literally)

I got an interview to work as an ER tech up in Flagstaff. Wish me luck! I got some inside help with my sis, but I have to nail the interview as my experience in the medical field is zero! But gotta start somewhere!

Any good sites that have good Q & A's?

TY in advance!

ENSURE, you refocus the interviewer on two points:
1) What your strengths are AND
2) How they will best fill the position vacant right now.

*Clean shaven, showered, squared away , professional attitude and conduct. You'll be OK, always thank a potential employer for their time. IF they make you an offer, ENSURE you ask how much time you have to respond. Hold them to this...dman

Body language. Hand shake. You may not get the job in the first thirty seconds, but you sure as h#ll can lose one. Sit up, make good eye contact. Make sure your shoes are in order (no worn heels). Shoes can reflect how well you take care of yourself and thus, how well you will take care of the company. Dress one step above the dress code for the company, if you don't know what it is, call the HR dept. Don't take a seat unless your recruiter (interviewer) invites you to. Study up on the company. Have a set of questions to ask (when will I hear from you? who will I hear from? How will you make contact? phone, email etc).

I could go on and on, but remember that the majority of communication relayed is non-verbal.

best of luck!

Number one, always be yourself. If you try to put on a front, it will mess you up. Secondly, ask yourself if you were the interviewer what would you look for in the applicant?

Major turnoffs for a potential applicant:

1) Bad attitude.
2) Bad appereance
3) Slouching

Major Turnons for a potential applicant:

1) Bright, positive personality
2) Never say die attitude. If you haven't done it before, tell them how quick of learner you are and how much you want the position.
3) Team player. Employers always want employees who are willing to take one for the team and never say "that's not my job."

Basically, make them want to hire you. People generally like nice people with a bright positive attitude. And if the interviewer likes you that can only be a plus.

The eye contact part is very important. Dont stare the guy down, but just make relaxed and focused contact when you are talking and when he is talking to you, like you would when talking to somone you know and respect.

So right on this one. One thing about it if someone is paying you to work for them you do what they ask (within reason of course and i guess union jobs this might not be the case), I feel if you dont want to do what your supervisor asks then you may want to seek other employment.

Start off by telling them you're a huge Broncos fan and won't be able to work Sundays from August until February, and also that you can't be expected to work the Monday following a Broncos loss. Mention that you spend a lot of time on the internet. Emphasize that while you have little to no experience, you are NOT afraid to try new things (on people). Also try to negotiate a 60-minute "window" when you will show up to work each day instead of a fixed time.

I have lots of other tips, but these are the most important IMO.

Good luck!

Great points! To this I have but one to make... MAKE EYE CONTACT. If you're looking all around when speaking, or spoken to, it shows a lack of confidence. I assume you'll probably go before a board, look each of the board members in the eye when you speak. Just b/c one person is asking the question doesn't mean the other interviewers aren't interested in the answer. Oh, and don't forget your posture. Sit at attention, like some have mentioned, body language is everything.

See, I also used to tell my guys that if they didn't want to do it, their replacement would!

Make sure to ask how strict the sexual harrasment rules are; after all, what better way to tell your secretary job well done than a nice firm slap on the ass.

Also, make sure to ask what the punishment is for 'borrowing' large amounts of office supplies.

Good luck!
