Default Don't sleep on George Gause.

Last year we picked up Gause in free agency. A lot of people had him as a first-day selection, and I'm still uncertain to why he slid. Here's a little information about him:

Gause was a three-year starter at South Carolina, totaling 156 tackles (106 solo), 15 sacks (77 yds.) and seven pass breakups in 43 career games (31 starts). The 23-year-old also recorded six forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for the Gamecorks.

He had 8 sacks his senior year, and 5 his junior year, so it seemed like he was still progressing. Yeah, he's a development guy, but he already has the size to play RE, 6-5... 275 and has speed off the edge. Here's some measurables for you.

4.69 in the 40-yard dash … 4.62 20-yard shuttle … 7.26 three-cone drill … 31½-inch vertical jump … 8-foot-9 broad jump … 33½-inch arm length … 9¼-inch hands.

Hopefully he'll be able to make the squad and contribute!

I believe everyone who enters the draft is pegged as a "first day selection" at one time or another.

Actually, it added more insight than most of his posts.

I am still reeling over the fact they let Mark Anderson go. The Only thing is his production was not as gaudy as other teams since Alabama was one of the best Defenses in the Country last year. He had 40 tackles with 18 of those for loss. That is almost 50% of his tackles were for loss! He owned the OL prospects at the senior Bowl and Beat ferguson repeatedly in the game. Then, he goes in the fifth to the FREAKIN Bears who need DE's Badly, Not

As for Gause, he fell out of Bills camp last year and Denver got him for the PS. I look forward to seeing him in camp

I've been wondering about Gause too he's seem to have all the physical tools and some tract record. Lets hope he is just a slow bloomer.

Hula - Cutler looks about 13 years old in your picture.

Gause had a couple of big boosters here last year. The reason he went undrafted came out, but I don't remember what it was. Guess we'll see come camp time. I know a few of us will probably be out there taking a look.

Nice

Gause is a guy I'm sort of looking forward to. Sporting News gave him a 3rd round grade.

BIO: Three-year starter who posted 40/8/4 as a senior.

POSITIVES: Athletic line prospect who consistently shows flashes of brilliance. Solid edge rusher with a quick change of direction and ability to alter his angle of attack. Pursues well laterally, displays excellent range, and makes plays in any direction of the field. Fast up the field, rarely off his feet and focused on by opponents.

NEGATIVES: Slow diagnosing the play or locating the ball. Lacks an explosive first step off the snap and overall suddenness to his game. Handled at the point once engaged in a block.

ANALYSIS: A defender who makes big plays in the opponents backfield while also displaying the versatility to be used off the line of scrimmage, Gause offers both athleticism and versatility for the next level. That said, he seemingly underachieved as a senior and did not having the season scouts expected. Possessing good upside for the next level, Gause must turn up his game several notches to have any chance of making an impact.

PROJECTION: Early Fifth Round

sounds like a late bloomer to me

Gause seems to have all the measurables needed to be a good player, so hard to say why he hasn't made it quite yet. But if he lacks instincts, not much can be done about that.

May be the kid needs some personal tutoring. He got some of that, I would imagine. So he gets some work in TC and we'll see what he's got.

The Broncos do not lack for candidates for the Dline, but the question is whether any of them can play. Seriously, I think they will be at least the same as last year, and probably a bit better. May need to watch the waiver wire in three weeks.

I hope this kid can play some DT. He sounds pretty good, just sounds like he needs to learn to pick up the play and react. All mental!!

Med....do we just hate the University of Alabama or something? Last year, Evan Mathis was right there and we went Paymah instead and now we just pass on Anderson over and over and over.

Maybe next year Tommy Prothro will still be there in the 3rd and we'll pass on him.

I wonder too SoCal. all of these Alabama guys were great character guys too. Ryans, Croyle, Anderson, Harper - all good students with leadership qualities. Shula has done great things down there to get that program pointed in the right direction.

Shanny is well connected at Florida and Georgia, so maybe there is some bias there.

Well, last Alabama player they took I believe was the RB Galloway and he didn't make it. But not saying that's why they are passing on Alabama guys.

forget alabama, the real talent in my state is at my university...Auburn.

alot of people forget that head to head Auburn has much more talent than alabama.

mark anderson was good, but not even close to the talent that Stanley McClover has.

Why we didn't jump on Tommy Jackson, a 6'1 300 pound dt, I have no idea with the lack of depth that we currently have on the roster at that position.

Mike prefers there to be a middle or directional word in the schools name.
