Cutler:
Quotes: http://www.denverbroncos.com/resourc...n_04_29_06.doc QB JAY CUTLER teleconference Vanderbilt] On] On if he was surprised the Broncos drafted him considering they advanced to the AFC Championship Game in 2005 “It is a surprise (for On how many conversations he had with the Broncos leading up to the draft “Very few, very few.” On if he anticipates playing behind Jake Plummer in 2006 and then becoming a starting quarterback the following year “Jake Plummer, I think he’s got a lot of years left. He’s a great quarterback, and he’s been doing it in On if the Broncos had not spoken with him since the combine “I literally hadn’t heard from the Broncos in the last couple of months.” On how long he would like to wait behind Plummer before becoming a starting quarterback “I don’t want to put a time limit on it. I think it’s good for a quarterback to wait coming in as a rookie—learn the system, watch someone successful in front of them do it. But I’m a competitor. I want to play. I’m just going to go in there and compete and try to learn as quickly as possible.” On who represents him “(James) Bus Cook.” On his win-loss record at Vanderbilt “We didn’t have some of the talent that some other teams do. We were playing in the SEC against extremely stiff competition. I think the SEC is the best conference in the nation. I came in and got a new coaching staff my redshirt freshman year and (the team) has been building talent every since that point. This year, we were extremely close and we’re only going to get better here at Vandy. But I can’t really argue the win-loss record. It’s just part of playing at Vanderbilt. We tried to do the best we could, but sometimes we just couldn’t get it done.” On his expectations leading into the draft “I didn’t really have a lot of expectations. I knew the draft was going to be a little bit funny this year. There is a lot of top talent near the top of the first round. I just went into it with an open mind ready to go wherever, and this is the perfect situation to come to On if he fits the Broncos’ offensive scheme “Yes, I think so. I think me and Jake are a little bit similar in the way that we play football. He gets out of the pocket, he likes to run and has a great arm and is a great leader. They’ve had John Elway in the past, and he is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. There’s a lot of people there that have done it and done extremely well that I get to learn from.” On what teams told him he needs to work on “Everyone is all over my footwork and how I throw off my back foot, but I think at times that was the only option I had playing here (at Vanderbilt). I think footwork is easily corrected. I’ve already corrected a lot of it. Just getting into the system and getting used to the offense… I’m just excited and getting ready to go.” On when he realized his arm strength “I’ve always been able to throw a football with a lot of velocity and put a lot on it and fit it into tight windows. For a long time, I’ve know that I can throw.” On the Broncos trading up from No. 15 to No. 11 in the first round to draft him “It means a lot to me. They obviously wanted to get me, and it’s an honor for them to go ahead and jump to 11 to pick me. It says a lot about what they think about me, and hopefully I can go in there and compete and contribute to this team down the line.” On the importance to his draft status of him leading Vanderbilt to a win against Tennessee “I think the games prior to that kind of helped me out. I think I had a great second half of the season against On being shown on TV during the draft eating quesadillas “They were chicken quesadillas.” On his poise during the draft “I was extremely calm. I was nervous before I got here, but once it started, I calmed down. It was out of my hands. Whoever was going to get me was going to get me, and I ended up in a perfect situation.” On if he has had contact with Brett Favre, who is represented by Cutler’s agent (Bus Cook) “Yes, I’ve talked to Brett. He (Cook) represents Brett Favre and Steve McNair both, so I’ve been able to talk with them and get some advice from them. They just say, ‘Be yourself, enjoy the process and your time will come. Keep working hard, and good things will happen.” On if he could ask for a birthday present (born April 29, 1983) than being drafted by “This is a pretty good one.” Cutler Press Clippings: http://www.denverbroncos.com/resourc...ings/42506.pdf Last edited by Needa Pass Rush; 05-01-2006 at 10:29 PM.. |

Tony Scheffler, TE Western Michigan
Quotes: http://www.denverbroncos.com/resourc...n_04_29_06.doc TE Tony Scheffler teleconference Western] [FONT=/> On the feeling that he could be drafted in the second round “It’s a good feeling, obviously. I think I have great ability and I’m going to prove to the Denver Broncos’ organization and fans that I was a great pick for the Broncos. I can’t wait to get in and get started.” On if he thinks he can come in and be a good blocker right away for Denver “I do, I do. I played baseball, and I had a number of things holding me back from becoming a dominant blocker. It has been a knock on me, and I’m ready to go in and prove that the Denver Broncos made a great decision drafting me and I’m a tough player. I am a tough football player.” On his baseball career at Western Michigan “I played for four years. This past year would have been my fifth year of eligibility, and I chose not to play.” On whether he ever had a thought of pursuing professional baseball “There was out of high school, actually. There was a lot of hype coming out and that is why I pursued it in college….for that reason. Basically, football was number one in my heart and I have always been a football fan. I can’t wait to continue that, (playing football) getting better and going from there.” On how important his 40-yard time was he ran out the NFL Combine “It was big, but that is what I always run (time). I told everyone that I interviewed with at the combine that I would be in the 4.5s. I think it was big but at the same time, I think other parts of my game merit the same respect.” On his shoulder injury “My sophomore year I broke my collarbone the first game of the season and missed the whole season. My junior and senior years, I started every game. That’s a non-issue.” Scheffler Press Clippings: http://www.denverbroncos.com/resourc...ffler_tony.pdf Last edited by Needa Pass Rush; 05-01-2006 at 10:46 PM.. |

G Chris Kuper teleconferenceffice ffice" />North Dakota (Rd. 5–161st overall)ffice:smarttags[/IMG] On the difficulty of getting noticed by NFL scouts at a Division-II school “It’s tougher than for another guy that maybe plays in the Big Ten or a school like that. I just went out and did my job and did everything I could for my team and for myself, and it ended up working out.” On how he ended up playing at North Dakota after growing up in Alaska “Just lack of recruiting. I didn’t really get recruited too much out of high school. I had really two options: go to On if the Broncos visited him when he worked out at a local performance agency “I saw some guys there at some point, but nothing that set a red light off in my head that told me that they were interested or how interested they were.” On if he met Broncos C Tom Nalen and other “Yes. I trained with Nalen a little bit over there.” On if he can long snap “Yes, that’s something that I’ve been honing the past couple of years. I didn’t start as a long snapper here, but it’s going to be something that I’m going to work on just to try to make myself a little more versatile.” On why he had a feeling the Broncos would draft him “I think initially it was just a place that I wanted to go. They have a great program, a great franchise out there. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Coach (Mike) Shanahan. It just seemed like a great place to live and to play. When I was out there, I went and saw the AFC Championship (Game) out there, and the atmosphere was unbelievable.” On how he got tickets to the AFC Championship Game in January “I was training down at Velocity in Last edited by Needa Pass Rush; 05-01-2006 at 11:20 PM.. |

Dominik Hixon, WR, Akron
WR Domenik Hixon teleconferenceffice ffice" />Akron (Rd. 4–130th overall)ffice:smarttags[/IMG] On how he found out he was drafted by the Broncos “They had called me first just to talk to me and ask some questions, and they called me right before they were on the clock.” On how he thinks he fits in with the Broncos and their situation at wide receiver “Just from talking to my coach (Akron Head Coach J.D. Brookhart) from when he worked out there (1995), he said that they have kind of similar offense and that it would be a good fit for me. This was way back when.” On being drafted as a receiver after playing safety his first two years of college “I never even really though about it, to be honest with you. I just kind of rolled with the punches when they moved me to receiver and just worked as hard as I could and let it take its course.”” On when he came to the “When I was 12-and-a-half.” On if can he speak German “Yes sir. My mother is German.” On seeing himself as part of a tandem in a couple of years with Broncos first-round draft choice QB Jay Cutler “I can. I’m looking forward to just meeting everybody and see what’s going to happen. But I definitely can see that.” On if he has met Jay Cutler before “No I haven’t.” On what he knows about Broncos WR Rod Smith and his reputation “I heard that he is one of the best receivers in the league, but he probably doesn’t get all of the publicity that everybody else gets. But I definitely heard that he is someone that you can learn off of and to just watch what he is doing because he is such a good example.” On if he sees himself impacting the Broncos right away as a kick/punt returner “Definitely, I would like to. Also, maybe on either punt team and kickoff team because I’ve done that before. Hopefully I can get an opportunity to do that also.” On if he thinks being a returner is one of the strengths to his game “Yes, I think it is. It’s something else you can do, so if you are not playing receiver you can also help on special teams in the return game. Teams can kind of utilize you as needed.” Last edited by Needa Pass Rush; 05-01-2006 at 11:21 PM.. |

Elvis:
DE Elvis Dumervil teleconferenceffice ffice" />Louisville (Rd. 4–126th overall)ffice:smarttags[/IMG] On why he thinks he was taken in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft “A lot of teams had questions about my height situation (5-foot-11), and I didn’t work out to the best of my abilities at the combine. I think that is the reason why I fell a little, but I’m very excited to where I dropped to in On where he expected to be drafted and if he was disappointed at the end of Saturday when a team had yet to select him “I wanted to get off the board and go somewhere, but at the same time, there were a lot of people that wish they were in my position. I just tried to keep a positive mindset, and I’m just excited that I got off the board and land in On what kind of conversations he had with the Broncos before he was picked “I met them once at the combine, but honestly I didn’t think On what went wrong for him at the 2006 combine “I kind of had an aggravated hamstring prior to the combine, so I wasn’t able to run my type of time. I ran like a 4.65 (40-yard dash). I know I am faster, but things happen and I wasn’t able to perform up to my abilities so I had to sit out all of the individual workouts.” On where he sees himself fitting in with the Broncos “I’ll play whatever the team asks me to play, but I think my position is rushing the passer, getting off the edge and creating some turnovers. I’m just a big momentum guy. That is such a great defense that On things that critics say he needs to improve on “I think I have to play the run a lot better. You are always working on your technique. You can never have too much technique.” On if he thinks he can come in and have an impact on pass rush right away “Definitely. Forgive the bold text all over the place. I was just cutting and pasting from a word doc and it seems to have some glitches. Hope there is something new to see here. Some of the players had press clippings compiled on them. If you follow the links you'll see that.

On whether WR Domenik Hixon will contribute on special teams
“He’s a punt returner and kickoff returner, so it’s always a plus. But we brought him in here not strictly for special teams. We brought him in to compete with our wide receivers because we thought with his speed and some of the plays he made that there was a lot of value there at that pick.” "...He’s got great speed. he’s in that 4.3 range." Maybe he can catch a TD pass this year and replace Lelie. |

Thanks very much Needa. Very informative.
For some reason, my RealOne player isn't working so I can't watch any of the videos on www.DenverBroncos.com, so this is really helping. Seems like they're all giving the "glad to be here, anywhere" answer. Alls well. |

All these guys seem very bright and mature. Hixon went as far as to call the interviewer "sir." They picked up some ver hard working high character players. I love what I hear, even if they were just well coached in what to say.

Someone had better tell Kuper and Eslinger to enjoy their interview time now. Once they get to camp, they go into the cone of silence with the rest of the O-line.

Watching the Sceffler press conferance, he also spoke about long snapping. Said he did it a good amount in college and is looking forward to doing more of it at the next level. Always a good thing.
