With all the talk about the depth of the first round I thought this would be an interesting thread. I think it's a deep quality draft but as you move down the list of top players the players start becoming more and more equal. Unlike years past you can sit at the 20 spot and be in need of a certain position and realize that all the players your looking at are pretty much the same calibur. The player you draft at 21 can also be found at 41.
Look at the DEs take out Mario Williams and you can pretty much lump all the rest of them together. Some people think Lawson is going to be great but basicallly they all are about the same calibur. Hali, Wimberly and Kiwi are listed all over the place on Mock drafts and will anyone be suprised if Tapp is the best DE outside of Williams and Lawson?? Look at RBs Take out Bush and you really have a bunch of backs that can go in any order. White, Williams, Moroney,Addai, Drew and Norwood. Anyone of these backs could be the best back in the draft. Look at the WRs they are all close. 3 have mid to late first round grades, Moss, Jackson, Holmes and then there are three that will go early in the second Hagen, Williams and Stovall. Will anyone here be suprised if Stovall or Hagen turns out to be the best WR in the draft?? Look at TEs which is a very deep draft. There is one awesome TE and then there are about 4 TEs that can be really good. Outside of Davis the TEs can go in any order. Pope, Lewis, Bryd and Klopfehinsteinerineryh can go in any order. Pope is falling a little and Klopfehinsteinerineryh is moving up but they all are interchangeable.(Tim Day) QBs are another situation. There are 10 QBs and all of them are fairly even. 5 years from now is Young going to be the best? Leinart?? Cutler I don't know but If he can stay healthy a Brodie Croyle could very well be the gem of this class. Kellen Clemons is also rising up the charts.I believe the G class is very solid all the way through and mid round bargins like Matua from USC can be had and they will be just as good as Josephy, Gilles and Lutui. The T position is where I do see a huge difference. At the begining of the year The T draft was said to be the best in 10 years well, that has proven to be false and I think there is a big difference in the top three tackles Fergusen, Justin and Winston from the rest of the pack. Fergusen I guess is going to be great although I belive he is overrated. Winston and Justin should be solid starters after that I see lots of risks. I think a late round guy here could be Jimmy Martin from Virginia Tech, although most of the scouts thinks he plays soft(which isn't good) He is smart, quick enough, mobile and has good technique. The S position is an odd one for me to look at Huff is the consensus best player but many people think he is a workout warrior after him most boards have Whitner as the #2 guy. Excuse me but Whitner is 5'10 and seems a better fit at CB I think Bullocks and Allen both have better potential and my guy Greg Blue has been plummeting off peoples boards. I thought in the fall that Blue would make a great 2nd round pick well, now it seems like he could slip to the 5th round which I find amazing. When people say this draft is only 18 or 21 players deep for a first round grade I have to disagree I think its 13 players deep. These are the playerI think would be worth a first round pick. 1) RB Bush 2) DE Williams 3) TE Davis 4) LB Hawk 5) DT Ngata 6) OT Fergusen 7) QB Leinart 8) CB Cromartie 9) QB Croyle 10) OT Winston 11) DT Bunkley 12) RB Williams 13) DE Lawson After these 13 I say just trade down and get 2nd round picks because it's really just a crap shoot after these guys are off the board. |

Nice Post!!
Croyle a first rounder tho? Thats a shocker! I like it! The 2nd -4th rounds is where the talent is at, if we dont trade up for VD, i really hope we trade down to grab more lat picks! |

We're almost certain to get Klopfehinsteinerineryh now. Combined with the Hagan guy who has trouble catching the ball.
So, I can start filling in the cursed draft: 1. ? 2a Whoever it is will be undersized, or hurt, or both. 2b Klopfehinsteinerineryh 3. Derek Hagan (Shanny loves receivers who can't catch) 4a. Bloom (since Denver was the only team not to attend his workout) 4b. ? 4c. ? |

I don't think Hagen will fall to the 3rd round. He'll be taken early to mid second just before or after Stovall. |

Good post even though I'm not that high on Brodie Croyle as others are.
I've seen him play a lot (they are on TV every week down here in Bama state). I can see him becoming an ok quarterback like Gus Frerotte, a backup who can win some games in a pinch but not a consistent starter. I do like Manny Lawson a lot and he's my number 1 option for Denver at number 15. |

More playoffs then not...back to back SB victories and one game away from the big show last season I'd say the guy knows a little about the greatest game in the world. Sure there have been a few misses but who is perfect besides a few of the peeps here at the Mane? I look forward to the weekend and the whining here afterwards. ![]() Sincerly yours, REB 1-2-3 !!!!!!! ![]() |

Nice post Atlas. I agree on many points. If Cutler is there at 15, I would love for Denver to trade down and pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd.

So why would anybody take Hagan and leave Hass, who everybody agrees has great hands, on the board.

But the weather was cloudy and rainy that day and the ball was really moist and slippery. Croyle even muffed some center-qb exchanges that day because it was so gloomy. |

I wouldn't be thrilled if Denver drafted Lawson but I think he has value if he slips to 15. 15 is a tough spot to be I think if Denver can't pull the trigger on a trade to get them Davis then I think they should trade up a few spots to ensure they get Ngata. I have him rated as the 5th best player and I have read that for some reason his stock is falling a little.

I think the Broncos are following your logic. All indications (the rumors, I mean) are that they either want to move up and get a freak like V. Davis, hope someone highly rated fall to them(like Ngata), or just move back and get more picks. I like this strategy in this draft. If chosen wisely, there are some 2nd and third rounders that may help the team as much as a mid to late first. ![]() |

I agree. The 15th selection is just aboput perfect for a guy to fall right in your lap but with Denver's draft choices they could also move up if needed to grab a targeted player.
