Maybe a full season with Jose, (I've always liked him and Roberto L.) and Marek can get us back to prominence. What about the farm system? I know nobody can step in for Super Joe but what isn't he going to be like 38 next year. damn salary cap...

Joe will be making less next season and the cap is going up next season as well.

Whoops. I need to lay off the booze. I thought the end of the second was the end of the game. Holy Cripes. I thought the final score was 6-1.

There is no way the Avs are getting out of the first round of the playoffs...if they make it. They are too weak defensively, and in the nets. If you're a legit playoff team you are not getting dominated by the Wild, and getting 4 hung on you by the desert dogs...not at this point in the season anyway.

There is no way that this Avs team is going to be physical enough, or consistent enough defensively to win a playoff series.

Saying that...they'll get Wolski next year, and they should be able to better themselves through free agency. Sakic and Blake have both said that they'll take less to remain with the Avs. (Aren't they both free agents after the season?) I believe they're going to have to pay both Tanguay, and Liles though. So the future isn't completely dim.

(Edit: quoting/responding to your own post should make you an immediate orangemane legend.)

Robitaille was a great player and all class. There was a great feature on him in the LA Times today.

I was glad when Pittsburgh got him in the mid 90s and I was furious when we traded him away for Sergei ****ing Zubov.

Im just as furious that he went to the freaking wings of all teams! But he will always be a King no matter what.

It's nice that Lucky is able to retire a King. He was a dick when he was Red Wing of course. He was a standout offensive player for a whole lot of years.

Also...nice picture 24Champ...Jari Kurri is an all time great that sort of flies under the radar. The relatively new fan radar anyway.

Cripes those Edmonton teams were loaded.

Brunette isn't injured as far as I know. I think Quenneville may have rested certain players and the Avs stopped playing after they went up 6-0. It's hard to blame Theodore on those goals, there were screens and weird bounces.

One more win should clinch a playoff spot. If the Avs can finish fifth, that would be their best opportunity to advance, but I think they'll end up playing Dallas in the first round.

This team will be better next year if Theodore can get over his mental hurdles and adjust to the NHL, but they must improve the defense. The fact that this team doesn't have any legitimate defensive prospects in their system is disturbing. They'll have to rely on free agency and even with the cap going up, they wont have enough cash to attract a stud like Redden or Chara. I'd love to dump Brisebois, but we are struck with him for another season. Boughner should be gone, but there will be some good second tier defenders available. Blake still has a couple good years left in him. If they can bring him back for a reasonable price and add a guy like Mara or Mitchell, that will help. But they better draft some defensemen in June. Even if these guys take three or more years to develop they have to start sometime.

Wolski will be with the team next year (may even be back for the playoffs if his OHL season ends). That should be a nice boost. But like Jori said, the team needs to upgrade the defense. That'll require free agency and/or trades.

Tanguay looks as though he never left, 1 goal & 1 assist so far.
I think they had to keep skating over to the Phoenix bench to collect more Gretzsky autographs.... I'm pretty sure during the 2 5 on 3's they were over there collectively genuflecting in front of extremely bad hair boy.

After the game The Great One wouldn't come out for his scheduled press conference and sent assistant coaches instead.

What a dick.

Really? Gretz wouldn't make an appearance, huh?

I think these were the same refs we had at the Blues game a couple of weeks ago.

Tonight they didn't even try to sit on the lead, they just stopped playing.

A win is a win, but the lack of focus is alarming to say the least.
that's what you should expect from a Quenneville coached team. the Blows never could step on someone's throat all those years and it started with Q.

We'll see if BabcOck can deliver what he couldn't a couple of years ago. Of course, I hope he can't, but you already know that.

yup, regular season's means very little in Detroit. if it did, Dave Lewis would still have a job. time for babcock to be the difference maker.

Thanks to the OM filter of the word c-o-c-k, I now call Babc-o-ck, Babcork all the time. It sounds so damn idiotic and drives me crazy when I post and it comes out that way, but it's good for a laugh.
