Besides Whitney and Orpik, the Pens have the same young D that almost every other NHL team has, guys that could make it up permanently. They'd take Johnson, much harder to find first pairing D than it is to find wingers that can play on the top 2 lines.

DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS: A particularly unsettling 7-3 home loss against the Detroit Red Wings in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Sunday night left Canucks fans considerably upset.

A lack of discipline by the Canucks resulted in unnecessary penalties and 11 power-play chances for Detroit, which converted only one.

The public backlash on Web sites was directed at coach Marc Crawford and forwards Todd Bertuzzi and Markus Naslund.

The Canucks have lost six of their past seven and would be out of the Western Conference playoffs if they started today.

Part of it is that Vancouver simply is not as good as advertised. They never really have been. For some reason they've been considered amongst the league's elite teams despite the fact that they've won a grand total of one playoff series since their run to the Finals in '94.

Their goaltending is average at best even with a healthy Cloutier. They take far too many dumb penalties. Their stars have a habit of coming up small when the chips are down.

This really shouldn't come as any surprise and nothing will please me more than to see them headed for the golf course when the playoffs start.

Would it have killed Kelly or McNab to ask Deader about his knack for killing the Red Wings? It seemed like they kept asking the same question in different variations.

Well as it sits right now after losing tanger is some players will have to raise the bar or we go down in a ball of fire, the good part is it seems sakic and duke ahve already made some moves as well as lappys line starting to gel. But most importantly budaj MUST start to play consistantly or the abouve mentioned factors won't mean squat unless they can out score the other team in a shootout.I would prefer a solid effort on both ends of the rink and winning these games outright.

I would have thought Kolesnick would have started at least one game since the trade. Anyone else surprised? If the Budaj that showed up last night comes to play every game, we're in ok shape, if not.....yikes.
