He has the size of a power forward but he's more of a finesse player. The kid in our system to keep an eye on is Ryan Stoa, freshman at the University of Minnesota. He's a project and likely wont sniff the NHL for 3-4 years, but he could potentially be the power forward this team has lacked. He started out slow, but has been moved up to the top LW for the Gophers and has really started to come on offensively. For him to be on the top line of a stacked Gophers team is an accomplishment in itself.

Tonight was a huge night in Colorado hockey. The Avs win 1-0 in a game they absolutely had to get two points out of. Now they face a brutal 10-game stretch with 8 on the road. The next ten games will prove whether the Avs are for real or not.

And just minutes ago, Denver beat Colorado College in overtime in a game the Pioneers also had to get two points out of. If they can beat CC tomorrow night the Pios will more than likely get a chance to play for their third straight national title.

Avs move into 2nd place with that win and the nucks losing and DU gets a top three seed in the WCHA tournament! and like you said a win vs CC puts em in (not a bad night).

Ovechkin gets his 39th (the lone bright spot for the Caps) in a 7-1 loss to Ottawa.

Not Flyers, pretty much Phantoms.

Yeah, It was an ugly loss to say the least. Did anyone catch that focking b**** Darius Kasperitis? I ranted about him a page or 2 ago about how dirty he is. I was saying that when guys like Domi, Stevens and Ulf were handing out their cheapshots, they at least had the balls to drop the gloves when someone attempted retribution.
Well, last night, Brashear went after Kasperitis for retribution for Kasper intentionally trying to blow Gagne's knee out. Brashear went to Kasper and took a rabbit punch and Kasper fell down on his knees and covered his head (the pose you're supposed to take when confronted by a bear).

What a complete piece of cowardly chit Kasper is.

Please, you can say the same about the Steve Moore - Todd Bertuzzi crap.

I hope that a-hole Brashear gets suspended and fined by the league. It is exactly the same incident as the one with Moore/Bertuzzi

Actually, it was more like Darren McCarty's beat down of Turtle Lemieux. Mac had jawed at him but Clod woudn't go. Kaspar skated around taking the verbal assault from Brashear and turned him down. Then when Brashear started fighting anyway, Kaspar just turtled. Kaspar knew Brashear was there all along, unlike Moore who was completely blindsided by Bertuzzi. Vintage Kaspar and vintage Brashear, IMO.

Default Fenandez signed

ST. PAUL, Minn. (CP) - The Minnesota Wild have re-signed goaltender Manny Fernandez to a multi-year contract, the team announced Friday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Fernandez will make $1.672 million this season.

Fernandez, 31, has a career-best 23 wins this season. Fernandez entered Friday's games ranked third in the league with a .924 save percentage and fifth with a 2.20 goals-against average.

''The Wild's commitment to Manny and his commitment to the team are based upon his play this season and his performance with the Wild ever since he started the first home game in team history on October 11, 2000,'' Wild GM Doug Risebrough said in a statement. ''We see this as a step that will continue to improve our team and help take us to the next level.''

and as some have pointed out already, 'cheap shot artist' is not an unreasonable label for them either. hey, people say the same about kirk maltby and others. it's a role that every successful team has to have filled by one or two guys. it helps if the guy can play some good hockey and these three guys mentioned can and do.

Many, many people around the league think that Dan Hinote is one of the leagues cheapest players.

My question is this: Why are the Avs wasting their time with Wolski in the OHL.... wouldent he be better suited in the AHL or even the NHL.

Wolski is just tearing up the OHL, and you gotta think this guys is ready to be a pro.

Once Wolski was sent back to the OHL he had to stay there. He can't be called up to the Avs again (when a player is sent from the NHL to the CHL they can't come back to the NHL again until the next season) and isn't eligible to play in the AHL (Canadian teenagers can't play non-CHL minor league hockey). He'll finish the season with Brampton and be a fixture on the Avalanche once the 2006-'07 season starts.

I think the Avs did the right thing with Wolski this year by giving him a taste of the NHL and then letting him develop further in the OHL. It would have been nice to have him once Konowalchuk went down, but I don't think Wojtek would have helped us to any more victories than we have now. The Avs would be in first place if Aebischer hadn't **** the bed in December, not if we had a better left wing replacement when Kono got hurt.
