Probably. Caps have more points and 3 games in hand.

Yep. Even with a regulation win tonight, we'll still be 4 points behind with 3 more games played.

Damn. Only the Caps can play the good teams close and get spanked by the Pens all 3 times they've played.

DU is leading Minnesota State 3-0 at the end of 1 period. Avs prospect Paul Stastny has 1 goal & 1 assist thus far. He had 2 goals & 2 assists last night in DU's 7-4 win.

I can't wait to see this kid in an Avs uniform. It might be a couple of years away, but it'll be worth the wait.

scary what a difference a goal tending coach and a defensive system can do for a team....Henrik is unreal....He reminds me of Patrick Roy with his demeanor...

Well the Av's are ahead of the Canucks... finally. If we beat Detroit, then I'll believe we're playoff material.

I'm so nervous about next week. I've been doing some public affairs work for the Jacksonville Barracudas (minor league hockey team, NY Rangers farm club). Anyway, I've been hanging ou with some of the players, and the goalie wants me to skate with the team. I'm not minor league materal, but I definitley want a good showing. Too bad I havent skated or shot in a year. I don't want to fck things up.

Wings-Avs Preview...Good luck to y'all.

Colorado (32-20-6) at Detroit (38-13-5) 5:00 pm EST

DETROIT (Ticker) - The Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche once staged a bitter rivalry. More recently, however, it has turned into a one-sided affair.

Detroit will be seeking its sixth straight win overall, as well as its sixth straight win vs. Colorado, when the teams square off Sunday in the final game for each prior to the Olympic break.

The Red Wings' latest victory came Thursday in a 3-2 triumph over Nashville behind defenseman Mathieu Schneider's tie-breaking goal with less than seven minutes remaining.

Robert Lang added a goal and an assist and Kris Draper also tallied for Detroit, which has outscored its opponents, 20-8, during its streak.

The Red Wings also have dominated the Avalanche of late, outscoring their rivals by a 19-7 margin over five straight victories, which include a pair of shutout wins.

Colorado posted its third straight victory Friday, 4-1, against Columbus behind a pair of third-period goals from rookie sensation Marek Svatos. Peter Budaj turned aside 28 shots for the Avalanche, who have won 13 of their last 19 contests.

Outcoached once again. There is a talent gap, no question, but Quenneville doesn't know how to beat the Red Wings. Thank goodness the Avs don't have to see these guys again. For Colorado's sake, they better not finish as the 8th seed.

The Avs are shown once again that they are no longer amongst the league's elite.

Yeah. But the cupboard isn't bare. They can get there again. Although it will be tough.

Didn't Lacroix trade Derek Morris (who he gave up Drury for) and Ballard to the desert dawgs for Gratton and Vaanannen?

Who'd he give up for Theo Fleury? I know Wade Belak was one...who else?

The three trades that I think worked out well for him were: 1) Obviously the Patrick Roy deal. 2) The trade for Ray Bourque. Bourque's presence alone was worth the price. Every once in awhile an athlete will be able to pair his natural ability with a ferocious desire to win(John Elway) and the results speak for themselves. Rolston just didn't do much for the Avs...but he seems to have realized his potential now. The Avs also got Dave Andreychuk in that deal...although I don't know who else they gave up. 3) The Rob Blake/Steve Reinprecht deal. They gave up a solid player in Aaron Miller, but Adam Deadmarsh's (it pains me to say this as he was my favorite Av player) career was on the ropes by the time they dealt him. I always forget who the prospect they threw in was.

I can't think of any other deadline deals that worked out. I hated the move for Kasparitis. Ville Niemenen is straight up a better player in my book.

The Avs aren't cup contenders this year, but they can f*** up the prom for some other teams...and the future doesn't look terribly bleak.

Niemo isn't anything special, I didn't mind that trade at all. The only trades that really bugged me were the Drury trade and the subsequent trade of Morris to Phoenix. Morris hasn't been the same player since he broke his orbital bone and was quickly replaced by John-Michael Liles. I didn't mind him trading Morris, but to give up Ballard makes me shake my head. The one true weakness of the farm system is quality young defensemen. The Avs need to use the upcoming draft on defense!
