The biggest he-whore the Avs had just bolted for St. Louis, so I guess Theo takes that title by default.

Hinote was a whore?! Seriously? He got around? No wonder he was so popular with the ladies.

PS. Did anyone actually say the word 'he whore' out loud? I feel like watching Pooh for some reason.

Malkin misses the first official day of Magnitorsk training camp. His team has been helping to hold up the official signing and transmittal of the transfer agreement after it was initially ratified about a month ago.

Hoo-boy....

David Legwand resigns for 2 years.

Lindros signs with the Stars.

Niko Kapanen traded to Atlanta, then signs for two years.

Geoff Sanderson signs with Philly.

Michall Peca signs with Toronto.

Those are the big ones.... I like the Lindros signing...Though Peca's a terrible pickup.

Over/under on the number of games Lindros is in the lineup this year. I say 40.

Bettman is a STUD.

He singlehandedly saved us last week. The Penguins were very close to announcing the sale to a Canadian based group, rumored to be interested in moving the team to Hamilton, although they would work with the state on the "Plan B" (Plan A is that the Penguins casino partner, Isle of Capri winning the license, but that is extremely unlikely, thus creating the need for a Plan B, which calls for the winning casino bidder if it is not the Penguins partner, to contribute about 8 million a year for 30 years, the penguins committing 4 million a year for the same period in the form of rent, and giving up the 1 million a year in naming rights, for stadium funding; if the Penguins partner wins the casino license, there is no need for Plan B since they have already committed to picking up the 300 million tab themselves as part of their application) to keep them in Pittsburgh. They backed out right before the sale because of fears about cost-overruns of the Plan B financed stadium and because the NHL told them that they would block a move since there appears to be a viable arena plan in place.

Unfortuneatly, among the remaining four bidders in the ongoing sale of the team, the two groups who guaranteed to keep the team in Pittsburgh no matter what (Murstein/Cuban and Renacci/George Karl) have been basically been eliminated just a day ago. All that remains is Fingold who wants to move the team to KC and Gottesdiener who wants to move the team to Hartford. Fingold is the favorite. Fingold has recently started speaking in a more positive way in terms of working with the government on Plan B, but I get the feeling he still wants to move them to KC. If it weren't for Bettman now forcing him to work with the local officials, they would be gone. They still might be. He is going to be worried about cost overruns too, and will want a slightly sweeter deal than Plan B's current terms. About 4 or 5 days ago I thought there was a 95% chance the Pens would stay (in the wake of the County Executive announcing that the rival casinos had committed in writing to funding Plan B and the NHL announcing it would block a move since there appears to be a viable plan to build the arena), now its about 60% after the two hometown groups have been eliminated. Alot of us fear that Fingold is going to demand alot more than what Plan B is offering him to sink it, so that he will refuse to sign the lease and make the claim to the NHL that the plan is not really viable.

What a joke...Briere has never had more then 65 points in one season. Gomez will probably be awarded 6 million if Briere is getting 5. With 8 other arbitration cases upcoming for the Sabres, I'm willing to bet Briere will be wearing another uniform next season.

All the more reason to be thankful that Liles didn't go to arbitration.

sorry to hear that SOCAL, instead of moving the team to KC they should move it to Hartford JMO.

It really makes me feel better about Hejduk being locked up for the next 4 years at $3.8 million per. If Briere is getting $5 million, the market is getting seriously skewed.

The Briere number is skewed because it was awarded by an arbitrator. The arbitration hearings started on Thursday. So far Mike York and Daniel Briere's awards have been announced. The interesting story is Scott Gomez. The Devils are already over 40 million dollars and still have Brian Gionta to re-sign. My guess is that Gomez will be awarded somewhere between 5.5 and 6 million. That means New Jersey will likely have to trade Gomez, or trade some other players to fit him under the cap.

The post cap market won't be normalized for another 6 or 7 years.

I thought that Ryder deserved more than 2.2 also, but as a Habs fan it work for me because they still got roughly 3 mill of cap space and all players are now signed for next season.

Briere's contract was nuts. According to TSN it was based on the salary contracts offered to players like Havlat. It's crap like this that makes me wonder why the NHL even had a lockout. Too bad they can't have reverse arbitration when the player sucks and the team wants to recoup some of their mis-spent money.

Hey Icon, I'm guessing you're a Flames fan.. any word on Daniel Ryder's progress at their prospects camp??
