It ain't easy being Breezy...

Habs makes some moves. They sign Aebischer to a one year deal. They trade Richard Zednik to the Caps for a 2007 3rd round pick. They also trade a 2007 4th round pick to the Coyotes for Mike Johnson.

Some of the flags in my neighborhood are at half mast today...I asked them why, and they told me about Sutter stepping down.

We play at the Kings and Ducks in early November. I'll be going to both games.

Another year of no Peter Forsberg or Sidney Crosby in Denver. At least we'll get our 1 in every 3 years glimpse of Ovechkin this season. Great schedule, Gary. And if Foppa retires after this year without even getting a chance to play a farewell game in Colorado I'm going to personally hire Chris Chelios to kill Bettman.

There has to be something behind that. Why would he leave? I was hoping Jori or CO had gleaned some scuttlebutt.

I don't know if it's already been posted, but I really don't care. I saw on a sports crawl today that he's staying on as the GM. Maybe he's just burnt out on coaching. The travel...et al.

The only thing being said right now is that he wanted to concentrate on the GM duties.

Being a GM must be tougher these days, a lot less guys seem all that keen on the idea of wearing multiple hats.

Sutter never intended on coaching the Flames long term. This transition has been rumored for a while.

High Def Hockey Fans With Comcast
Thursday, July 13, 2006
The word is INHD2 will no longer exist as of August 1st. Even though we were able to catch some OLN-HD hockey games on INHD2, this may be good news. Perhaps Comcast is going to provide a full time HD channel for each area they are in. An example is here in Detroit, Tiger games will soon be available in HD but only via Directv. Maybe Comcast is planning on televising the games on a yet to be announced HD station.
The same could hold true for each Comcast market. I would also think the OLN HD hockey games could be broadcast on this type of channel for the upcoming year.

Avs re-sign Budaj, McCormick

Svatos and McLean are the remaining RFAs.

McLean filed for arbitration, right? I could see them walking away from whatever he's awarded.

you guys have to keep svatos or hope someone picks him up so you get some picks to stock the shelves with.

I really think abs was fine for you guys - he was no worse IMO than theodore (or no better depending on how you look at it) and would have been FAR cheaper.

The organization clearly doesn't feel that way. In fact, if you read between the lines, they clearly blame the goaltending for the Avs "average" regular season. The Avs don't believe that Aebischer is a championship goaltender, but see the "potential" in Theodore. They are doing everything they can to get Jose back to his 2002 form; including hiring Jeff Hackett as the goaltending coach. Hackett was Theodore's backup in Montreal during his MVP season and Theodore has cited Jeff as a reason for his success that year. I'm not a Theodore fan. I'm not happy that the Avs are placing blame on the goaltending when it's clear that the defense was a bigger problem. The defense hasn't improved and the Avs are putting all their eggs in one basket (Theodore). This could really blow up in the Avs face if Theodore continues to be inconsistent. I really hope that Budaj can develop into a #1 goalie or that Billy Sauer is a diamond in the rough.

I addressed this a few pages back.

He is going to do something this year that Aebischer wouldn't or couldn't have done, though. He's going to count $5.33 million against the cap. It's obvious that Quenneville didn't like Aebischer, fine. Why not let him play out the season and then just fail to qualify him and let him become a UFA? You save the cap space and you've got plenty of $$ available to find a suitable replacement. Nope, Lacroix wanted Theodore and his fat contract, so that's what we've got. A goaltender who's performed no better than the guy he replaced, but eats up considerably more cap space. Brilliant.
My feelings haven't changed.

I always did too, matter of fact....better is what I thought. I really liked his feistiness too. With this whole cap crap, I wish more than ever that we'd kept him. Hopefully, Jose makes me change my tune.

Maybe the Avs and Jose can work something out whereby he would reduce his salary to the minimum and Paris Hilton could make up the difference in return for services rendered.

Hey, im just trying to help you guys out.
