Avs are back on the clock, even though NHL.com still has it listed as Calgary's pick.

Avs take Codey Burki, C, Brandon, WHL.

Pretty good value, he was ranked as the 18th best North American skater.

NIGEL WILLIAMS, D, USA NTDP

Born: 4/18/88 Ht: 6-4 Wt: 226 Shoots: L
From NHL Central Scouting - An offensive defenceman who likes to join the rush as well as lead the offense while he has the puck...pinches well for scoring opportunities and has a very hard shot from the point...makes a hard, accurate first pass...is difficult to beat one-on-one...very good wide-based skater with an excellent long stride.
From ISS - . Without a doubt one of the biggest draft wildcards. The number one attraction for this player is his combination of outstanding size and skill. He is blessed with a genetic gift and a relatively high level of skating and puck skill for a player this big. The Richmond BC native is a calm and composed rearguard who accomplishes many things in subtle ways.
From TSN - Attending Wisconsin next season...Played in for Team Illinois Midget Majors after a season with Shattuck...Was a 2nd team All-Star at 2004 Mac's Tournament...Played with the Under-17 team at the Four Nations Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia...Had 18 PIMS and +2 rating at 2006 World U-18s (0 points).

Codey Burki

Born: 11-17-1987, C, 6'0, 190, Shoots: Left
2005-06: Codey Burki is a player whose numbers in all categories have increased every season. While most players are draft eligible after two years of junior, Burki has completed three seasons in Brandon. While the Wheaties had a number of high-end players during the playoff run, Burki embraced the opportunity and ice time, securing an important role in the future of the club. According to McCrimmon, the native of Winnipeg, Manitoba saw his role change last season as Burki became more of a leader in Brandon both on and off the ice. Burki played alongside Mark Derlago and Finnish import Sami Sandell. He played in all situations and on both special teams. In 70 games, he led the team in scoring with 27 goals and 34 assists.

In 60 games, Carman led the team in PIM with 102 and finished third on the team in points with 54 (21 goals, 33 assists). He also had the 2nd most power play goals with 11. Carman also played very well against NCAA opposition. In 22 games, Carman finished second on the team in PIM (42), points (18), assists (11), and points per game (.82). http://hockeysfuture.com/prospect/michael_carman

Carman is the 63rd ranked NA skater. He'll be attending Minnesota in the fall. That gives the Avs three prospects who will be playing at Minny this up coming season (Stoa, Peltier, Carman).

Yup. Wisconsin comes to DU in early January, so I'll be attending one of those games as it'll be in my Pioneers Pack

Medvec went to high school in Minnesota. I don't think he has committed to a school yet.

Avs must have made a deal with the Oilers to get a 4th rounder, it says they've selected Kevin Montgomery, D, with the 110th pick.

Another American, he'll be attending Ohio State University.

I have no idea how the Avs got that pick or if it's some kind of mistake by NHL.com

There must have been a trade since it says (from EDM) underneath it.

Ha.

Extremely good calls again this year, CO. I know if you are happy, all Avs fans will eventually be.

I certainly hope so, my reputation is on the line here.

Unlike the Broncos & Nuggets, the Avs have had this tendency to draft guys I really like. Well, the Nuggets have drafted guys I liked two years in a row (Jameer Nelson & Jarrett Jack) and then traded them 20 minutes later.

I'm very happy with draft day for the 2nd consecutive year. I think the Avs are really doing a fine job of re-stocking their farm system. Certainly helps when you hang on to those 1st & 2nd round picks for a couple of years instead of peddling them at the deadline (same goes for prospects in the system). I give Lacroix credit for resisting the urge last season.

I agree with Tred. If CO's happy with the pick, then so am I.

I'm guessing that the Isles owned Edmonton's 4th rounder and traded it to the Avs for their 5th & 6th rounders.
