Great move. I really like this deal. Leopold + an extra 2nd rounder and we don't have to pay Tanguay. That $$ can be spent upgrading the defense. Nice.

I hate that Tanguay was traded within the division. This was a signability issue...no doubt about it.

Filled the C spot. Now GMGM needs to find a way either to get back into the Top 12 since they definitely have the ammo, or get a goalie at #23.

Like the Backstrom pick. I know he said if he's not sure he'll be in DC this year, but he's said in the past he wants to either be on NHL team or stay in Sweden. He doesn't want to shuttle back and forth from an AHL team all year.

Damn, I was hoping the Avs would jump up and trade with Boston to grab Kessel. A Wolski-Kessel-Svatos line would have looked nice.

Ah well. I do like that the Avs have stockpiled some extra 2nd rounders with this deal, plus getting Leopold addresses a direct need. I didn't want them to give Tanguay a long term dealk at $4.5 million per year or more. I just wasn't comfortable with the committing that kind of cap space to him over a multitude of years.

To be honest, I don't like that it's within the division. We already have a similar defenseman in Liles. Leopold does have a reasonable contract, he has one year left on a deal that will pay him about 1.05 million. This trade does give the Avs some cap relief and perhaps now the Avs will be players in free agency. The Avs need to stop trading with Calgary I'm mixed on this deal.

Absolutely. Tanguay is a very talented player, but I'm not sure if he'll ever reach his ceiling.

I like the deal...especially considering the scratch that apparently was involved.

I agree wholeheartedly Clockwork. They can take Tanguay's money and see if they can solidify the D. And save up for Tay-o-door's upcoming VD shots.
