This isn't the first time that Sakic has taken a bit less than his market value to stay in Colorado. The last time his contract came up (under the old, free wheeling spending CBA) he was coming off of a 54 goal, Hart & Pearson season in which he led the playoffs in scoring and the Avs to the Stanley Cup. He re-upped with the Avs for $9.5 million per season when he could have easily got somewhere from $11-$12 million per season on the open market.

From what I've read it appears that Niklas Lidstrom isn't exactly planning on giving Detroit the home town discount. Word is that he's looking for a raise from the $7 million he earned last year.

That's just sick. Plain old sick. Good Lord, there are so few people left in sports with integrity.

No doubt. Who knows what our goalie will be up to. That whole Paris thing just grosses me out. Come on, Jose....you're better than that...I had hoped.

Now, now. There's no evidence that proves that Theo went 5 hole on Paris Hilton.

Well.....he is French-Canadian.......so it only makes sense that he's in Paris in the offseason.

Think Pierre, err. I mean, Michel, err. I mean Francois, would've had more interest in waiting on Luongo if he would've changed his name to Robnee Luongnette?

Roberto was a little late for the French invasion of Colorado.

Games 5, 6 & 7 were incredibly intense. Great sport.

I love NHL hockey, but the fact that the last two championships have gone to warm weather cities has to grate on the nerves of the traditionalists.

Regardless, with the limited exception of the NBA, unlike any other sport, the NHL really does gather together the best players in the world...US, Canada, Russia, Euro, the nordic states.

Doesn't translate all that well to the small screen, but I don't care...great game to watch, wherever.

I absolutely love anything that grates on the nerves of the hockey traditionalists. Those dinosaurs pine for the days of clutch & grab, the days when a 1 goal lead was insurmountable, the days when teams with no talent resorted to trapping and sucking the life out of the game.

I'm looking in your direction Ron McLean, they're saving you a spot on the parade route in Raleigh.

This is for you Clockwork. Another proud moment for our "Goalie of the Future"....

Paris in spring a costly fling

By TORONTO SUN MEDIA

Jose Theodore's antics with Paris Hilton in Toronto possibly has cost him an eight-year relationship.

Stephanie Cloutier, the partner of the Colorado Avalanche goaltender, has kicked Theodore out of her life and their house, a source close to the hockey player reportedly told a Montreal television station yesterday.

Cloutier was planning to move with their three-month-old daughter to Denver this summer. Theodore had bought a house in Denver, but the former Habs player and his partner had kept their house in Montreal.

Photos of Theodore and Hilton partying and holding hands in Toronto last weekend have appeared in several Canadian newspapers.

Theodore escorted the hotel heiress to the MuchMusic Video Awards. They later were seen in a passionate embrace at a restaurant and partied the night away at a club.

The Journal de Montreal reports the morning after the Toronto escapade, Theodore had to meet Cloutier at St-Justine's hospital, to get their 3-month-old baby girl Romy out of hospital. The baby was reportedly

born prematurely and needed 3-months of care in the neonatal unit. The pregnancy reportedly had not been easy for Stephanie Cloutier, who has diabetes and who had to deal with her father being in jail at the

time. Jose and Stephanie met 8 years ago.

Theodore is no stranger to controversy.

In 2003, published photographs showed him with members of the Hell's Angels.

His father and half-brother pleaded guilty in 2004 to charges of loansharking and possessing a restricted weapon.

Last year, Theodore failed a test for a steroid commonly found in a hair-restoration drug.

Nice.

Throw away an 8 year relationship with the mother of your newborn daughter for a one night fling with a trashy Hollywood f***towel. Great judgement there, Theo.

Your 2005-06 Hart Memorial Trophy winner as the NHL's MVP is Joe Thornton. Congrats to Big Joe.

Hey O'Connell, tell us all again how Thornton isn't a top 10 player in this league.

Boston fans have to be grinding their teeth right now.

Here ya go K:

VANCOUVER -- San Jose center Joe Thornton, whose career-high 125 points and +31 rating sparked the Sharks' dramatic late-season surge to fifth place in the Western Conference, captured his first career Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP tonight at the 2006 NHL Awards.

Thornton, who also collected the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's regular-season scoring leader, received 67 of 129 first-place votes for 1,058 points in Hart balloting. He edged New York Rangers right wing Jaromir Jagr, who tallied 48 first-place votes and 974 points.

Other honorees included Washington Capitals left wing Alexander Ovechkin, who won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie. Ovechkin was a near-unanimous selection, receiving 124 of 129 first-place votes and five second-place votes for 1,275 points. The 20-year-old Moscow native led all rookies in scoring with 106 points and became the second rookie in history to tally 50 goals and 100 points in a season, following Winnipeg's Teemu Selanne in 1992-93. Ovechkin also led the NHL in shots with 425, the most ever for a rookie, and ranked third among all players in points.

Three days after winning the Stanley Cup, Carolina Hurricanes captain Rod Brind'Amour was honored for regular-season achievement tonight, winning his first Frank Selke Trophy as the League's outstanding defensive forward. Brind'Amour led all NHL forwards in ice time per game at 24:17, more than a minute and a half ahead of second-place Brad Richards of Tampa Bay (22:45). He also excelled in the face-off circle, leading all players in face-offs taken with 2,145 and placing third in face-off winning percentage, 59.1%.

The Buffalo Sabres' Lindy Ruff claimed the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's top coach, edging the Carolina Hurricanes' Peter Laviolette by one point (155-154) in the closest race since voting for the trophy began in 1973-74Ruff guided the Sabres to a 52-24-6 record for 110 points, a 25-point improvement over 2003-04, and set franchise records for victories and points.

Calgary Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff claimed his first Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender and William Jennings Trophy as the goaltender on the club allowing the fewest regular-season goals. Kiprusoff led all netminders in goals-against average (2.03) and shutouts (10), ranked second in victories (42) and was third in save percentage (.923).

The Detroit Red Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom captured the Norris Trophy for the fourth time as the League's outstanding defenseman. Lidstrom led all NHL blueliners in scoring with a career-high 80 points (16 goals, 64 assists), helping the Presidents' Trophy winners post a 14-0-0 record when he scored a goal. Lidstrom ranked third in the NHL in ice time per game (28:06) and posted a +21 rating.

Lidstrom's teammate Pavel Datsyuk won his first Lady Byng Trophy for combining sportsmanship with a high standard of play. Datsyuk led the Red Wings in scoring with a career-high 87 points (28 goals, 59 assists), the most by a Detroit player since Brendan Shanahan's 88 in 1996-97, and was the first Red Wing to tally 50 assists in a season since Steve Yzerman, also in 1996-97.

Anaheim Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Selanne turned in a spectacular season in his second stint with the Ducks, leading the club in scoring with 90 points (40 goals, 50 assists) following reconstructive knee surgery in 2004.

San Jose Sharks right wing Jonathan Cheechoo won his first Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy as the NHL's goal-scoring leader. Cheechoo tallied a Sharks-record 56 goals, including 11 goals in the final 10 games, and led the NHL in game-winning goals (11), home-ice goals (31) and divisional goals (29).

Washington Capitals goaltender Olaf Kolzig accepted the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for leadership and humanitarian contributions to his community.

The Professional Hockey Writers' Association (PHWA) cast ballots for the Hart, Norris, Selke, Lady Byng and Calder Trophies. The PHWA also voted on the Masterton Trophy. The 30 NHL General Managers voted on the Vezina Trophy. The NHL Broadcasters' Association (NHLBA) submitted votes for the Jack Adams Award, and a special panel of representatives from the PHWA and NHLBA chose the King Clancy winner. Voting for these awards was conducted at the conclusion of the regular season.

Balloting results were tabulated by the accounting firm Ernst & Young, with the exception of the Masterton and King Clancy trophiesThe results for these awards were tabulated by the PHWA and the National Hockey League, respectively.

Cool to see Brind'Amour win the Selke, same for Kipper and the Vezina. Cripes, if Lidstrom keeps winning the damn Norris, they're gonna change the name of it.

Datsuck took the Lady Byng, huh? I never even heard or I don't remember who else was in the running.

Sounds like most of the winners were the right ones, IMO.

Thanks, Tred.

Some rumors for Avs fans.

Blake back to LA?

Colorado among the clubs targetting Spacek.

Take it with a grain of salt though, it is from Eklund's rumors blog.

STFU.

Mock has ties throughout the league. Sit down and Shutup. Mock told you that Theodore was touring the Champs-Elysees in Paris but you idiots were too busy sucking him off in the playoffs. Noone ever bothered to ask Mock who would win the Cup. If any of you idiots actually sought me out, you would have made a killing on Carolina at 7 to 1. It was a Mock's Lock all along. It should surprise no one that these Cup Finals were excellent, although Mock still lusts for the Finals of 2000 and 2001 when they always panned to Melanie Brodeur with that cowboy hat in the Finals. She gained some weight in 01, but its all meat to Mock. Mock was laughed at on this board when I said the Staal family would own, so **** you.

Anyway, Mock is calling Erik Johnson at No. 1 to STL. Beezer just got off the phone with JD and confirmed it. Sometimes JD drools tho, i guess Beezer looks tasty to him, he is getting too fat the last few weeks. I should have gotten him off the Albacore tuna, its really fattening, but he doesn't like Chicken of the Sea. I know I pamper him and all but I feel guilty when I don't, I don't think he has forgiven me for trying to spray WD-40 down his throat.

Mock's family actually has a rich history with the NHL. Mock's great uncle taught Toe Blake the fundamentals of the Bothwell Weave and what would eventually become the very aggressive Soviet 2-1-2 forechecking system.

And yet Mock is treated like he knows nothing about hockey. How very amusing. Get a clue.

Listen you dimwits, Mock negotiated Nick Antropov's last contract so STFU. I have Tomas Kaberle on speed dial and a million dollar line of credit so bl0w me.

Now Mock is a homer for Minnesota, but I am also a great father figure. Mock simply did not stand for it when Kessel started gawking at a kitten. Mock delivered a major beatdown. Mock has been calling GMs across the country warning everyone about that little biatch. ISS certainly listened to Mock. The kid is falling faster than a rock. Last year, Mock told you the kid had major character problems. Mock told you to downgrade him. Mock spent two hours on the phone with Central Scouting and noone listened until now. He cost himself millions messing with my family. Kessel can STFU and STFD. Mock eviscerated him.

STFU.

You get major rep for mentioning Melanie Brodeur going Delta Burke between 2000 and 2001. She was a straight up hottie when the Devils beat the Stars for the Cup and then one year later she looked like she'd eaten a small country. No wonder Marty was diddling her sister.
