They earned it by making the right trade at the right time. With a net minder of this caliber the entire season they wouldn't have been the 8th seed. Even in the "New" NHL gaining a late puzzle piece works.
Go Rolie the Goalie. |

This just cracks me up that it irks you so much, SoCal. Would you be of the same mindset if this was your number 8 seed team making all this noise? ![]() I'm loving this. How's it feel, ya Quacks? ![]() |

Sorry, Leaf fans adopted that as their mantra one year during the playoffs one year (destiny must have been taking a nap while they were getting bounced by Carolina) and it was overused to the point of nausea. That one makes me wretch a little more than even "Built for the playoffs" and "Cowboy up." |

What a game that was -- fighting, hitting, goal after goal, a great home crowd, wow! Even though I'm rooting for the Oilers I was hoping Anaheim would have tied it there at the end. Penner came real close to putting it in. I do enjoy seeing almost every bounce go against the Ducks after what happened last series. I also knew Bryzgalov was going to be solved soon.
SoCal, you're my favorite poster here, but I don't agree with you about the #8 seed advancing to the finals. The Oilers had to play so many games against the toughest division in the NHL just to get to the playoffs (without a competent NHL goalie for most of the season) and now they're reaping the benefits. And Tred is 100% correct; with a true #1 netminder from October through March and Edmonton finishes a lot better than eight. Beating the Wings, Sharks and Ducks like they have is a much more impressive feat than finishing higher in the regular season. |

The Little Team Who Could. The Ugly Ducks turn into Swans. Ducks take 'em all in a row. Too bad they Ducked Out..... |

Well that would certainly do it, SoCal! Ok, now I feel bad. I hate to see animals suffering. I warned it was classless though!PS. No more mention of that poster's name. It might make her come back or something. ![]() |

I didn't think sweeping the worst Avalanche team in 10 seasons was all that impressive, so I say I'm not surprised the Ducks are about to be swept themselves. Who knows for sure, but maybe those long layoffs sapped the Avs and Ducks?

Chris Chelios will be back for another NHL season, as the 44-year-old defenceman has signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings. According to the Detroit Free Press, the deal will pay him $850,000 next season. Chelios will be entering his 22nd NHL campaign in 2006-07 and his seventh full season in Detroit. In 1,476 career games, he has 182 goals and 925 points. Article in today's paper is headlined "Blake Confident He Will Return to Colorado". Better. Giving up Foote and Forsberg would look worse if Blake bolted after one year. I think he was hot enough to leave after that final disgraceful effort from many of his teammates in game 4, Round 2. |
