The Suns are on cruise control. They've won their division and they're locked into that #2 seed. They don't have much left to play for in the regular season.

I'm really hoping for another scoreless game from Nash to spice things up a bit.

Coming down the stretch, Lebron's case for MVP should be already written as the Cavs are going to look to limit his minutes in the regular season. Detroit and Billups are going to have to keep it up thanks to San Antonio and Dallas keeping pace for what may be the best record (but not for too much longer - SA/Dallas running out of time). Dirk is going to get a bit of the MVP-nominee spotlight as the Mavs keep fighting with SA for #1 - but this should be all but over after Yao broke his foot and the Mavs were needing someone like Houston to trip up the Spurs.

Dirk's reg. season translated to more wins, and contributed to more quality wins against good teams.

Dirk has led his team to a much, much more successful regular season than Nash has. The major knock against Dirk in public perception is that he cant win MVP because he might not beat the Spurs in the playoffs. Here is another double standard, because odds are Nash, James, and Bryant wont win anything. Does Cleveland have a chance against Detroit? Not much. Does Phoenix have a chance against SA or Dallas? Not much. Does LA have a chance against SA or Dallas? Probably not. Out of all of the MVP candidates, Dirk has the best shot at advancing past the Champions along with Billups. If SA gets beat, it will be done by Detroit or Dallas.

If it is a regular season award, Dirk is in the driver's seat.

It's highly likely that the two will end up tied for the best record in the west. I would think that SA will tank a game and that Dallas will probably win out. SA might tank the last one to rest their players.

If Dallas ties SA for the Conference's top record and loses out on the third tiebreaker procedure, does that illegitimize Dirk's MVP candidacy?

Not many outside of Dallas see it that way.

Yet again, you bring no logic to the table. Should I expect anything less?

You have no room to talk since you bring no logic as well as no objectivity to the table.

Don't worry, no one expects any better from you.

There are several aspects to the case for Dirk Nowitzki that have been made on this thread. Your defensive counter-posts indicate that you missed the point of the thread. I even stated it in the opener to be clear.

If you have a case, make it.

You have just inundated the thread with a bunch of defensive statements like "you are biased", etc.

How about creating a cogent retort or two?

Yawn. This whole thread was started as just more of your mental masturbation over Nowitzki. You did the exact same thing last year.

I've made a case for Nash and Billups and you decided to dismiss it because you didn't care for it. Unfortunately for you, no one appointed you the be-all, end-all judge of what is a valid argument and what isn't.....no matter how much you like to think you are.

In truth, the majority of your "case" for Nowitzki has been weak attempts to diminish the accomplishments of the other candidates instead of just laying out what Dirk has done. If you'll notice, not once in this entire thread have I said one ill word about Dirk. I've made arguments for the two players I'd put ahead of him without feeling the need to try and slight Dirk in a lame attempt to make my case look better. It makes you look pretty desperate and insecure about your own cause when you have to resort to smear tactics.

By the way, you are biased.

If you go back and look at the thread, I have encouraged anyone to make the case for their player, which includes comparing each player under certain common premises like: "the MVP should play on a team that is a top 5 team", etc. If you percieve that as unnecessary, you are missing the point.

I also went back and looked at your argument for Billups. There wasnt a whole lot to it. I had hoped to garner some in depth discussion of how players fit into the definition of MVP and who stands out where in that continuum, but the thread turned quickly into "I like _____", or 1), 2), 3). I could get more detail from Stephen A. Smith. That's not saying alot.

Again, you make the mistake of thinking that I care what you consider to be a proper case. You seem to keep missing the point on that.

I gave you the basics on Chauncey Billups, nothing more. I didn't feel that an in-depth analysis was required. Sorry if the just the short & sweet facts weren't enough for you.

I gave you plenty on Steve Nash and all you did was launch your little smear campaign against him with ridiculous statements about how he "isn't that valuable" or "isn't the most important player on his team" or "he's a liability." Statements with absolutely zero basis in fact.

Comparing players is one thing, that part is fine. Dismissing every other player and making false claims about them (as you did with Nash multiple times) is ridiculous and defeats the whole purpose of the discussion.

Since this is a basketball thread, I'll throw this in there.

I remember watching this game many years ago. It was one of the damndest things I've ever seen in a basketball game. The Nuggets were down 8 with a little over 30 seconds to go. Rodney Rogers goes off.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=OcqwHtdmHAw

But in typical Nuggets from those days fashion, they ended up losing the game thanks to Stockton & Malone out-executing them in the final seconds.

Still, it was an amazing thing to see.

Nash had 4 fouls at the half, so he couldnt play hard on the D side.

Heres a vid for Kobe vouchers..

I'll take Kobe or Lebron! MVP is meant to go to the person that has the biggest impact on their team. Neither the Lakers or Cavaliers would be where they are without those 2...espacially the Lakers! Kobe should win it!
