Flex schedule thrills Bowlen By Bill Williamson Denver Post Staff Writer The Broncos' schedule may be in flux at the end of the season. And owner Pat Bowlen loves it. The NFL announced a plan Wednesday to delay scheduling Sunday night games that will be broadcast on NBC for Weeks 10-15 and Week 17. There will be no changes in Week 16, Christmas weekend. All games in the flexible weeks will be listed with start times of 11 a.m. or 2:05-2:15 p.m. (Mountain). To give the league a chance to offer a better matchup for prime time, it will announce the Sunday night game at least 12 days ahead. The league and networks have long discussed the possibilities of a flex schedule, focusing on Monday nights, but that would have created logistical issues. This new plan is much easier, Bowlen said, because teams will be changing only times of a game, not the date. "I think it's great. The league has been looking to do something like this for some time," said Bowlen, the NFL's broadcast committee chair. "It just makes a lot of sense." The regular-season schedule will be released today. There is a chance Denver will play a Sunday night game at New England. As a division winner, the Broncos likely will play a Monday night game at home. Lelie working alone Receiver Ashley Lelie has not participated in the Broncos' offseason program, which began Monday. Lelie is working out at Athletes Performance in Tempe, Ariz. Several NFL players work out at the facility in the offseason. Like all teams, Denver's offseason program is voluntary, but players -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Advertisement -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- are encouraged to participate. Nearly all of Denver's veterans are in the program. Lelie has a $100,000 workout bonus he will forgo if he doesn't participate in 90 percent of the program. He can return to the program at any time. Lelie is entering the final year of his contract. Harrington update There have been reports that Miami has come to an agreement on a contract with Detroit quarterback Joey Harrington, but the Dolphins can't come to a trade agreement with the Lions. One report said the Lions are seeking a third- or fourth-round pick for Harrington. The Broncos have expressed interest in Harrington, but it's unlikely they would give up a mid-round pick. Detroit likely will cut Harrington by June 15, when he is due a large bonus, if he isn't traded. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Anyone else think Lelie is going some where else next season? The only way i think he stays is if we offer big money and he has 1300 yards and 10 touchdowns.

And then ofcourse we heard earlier this offseason that the team was possibly trying to trade him to SF or Philly. I'll miss him in 07, Ive always liked that kid alot. He'll always be one of my favorites in the league.

I think Lelie is a goner next year, maybe Shanny will shock us all and go after Holmes with the 15.

Yeah, it must be tough for a guy like Ash to play in an offense where he is actually expected to be a football player. You know, block, make tough catches over the middle, run precise patterns, beat jams, etc. I won't miss him.

The writing is on the wall, and nobody reads the writing better than Shanny.
I expect a draft day trade involving Lelie. Maybe to move up high enough to get Vernon Davis. Given this report and the fact that Lelie is in his last year of contract, I think he has played his last game in a Broncos uni. |

Lelie can go where ever but he'll still be a below the line physical player...he's not going to see many balls anywhere if he can't get open.

Lelie with a first round pick sounds like a package possibility.

If that's the case, package Lelie with the #15 pick plus whatever else it takes to get up to #6 without giving up the 22nd pick. Use that pick on Vernon Davis. Then use pick #22 on Santonio Holmes.
