It's not a matter of upgrading over Lelie. It's more finding someone to play with Lelie when Rod retires. Of course, we have to resign Lelie next year...

Why does everyone jump with glee at the hopes of landing Chad Jackson a guy who had 900 rcv yards last season and ran fast at the combine? I'd rather trade up, get a stud (Vernon Davis) and not watch another project that never develops. Jackson is way overhyped.

Jackson is a stronger version of Williamson, yeah he only had 900 yards but that was on 88 catches in a brand new offensive scheme

also when you factor in the level of competition he played in compared to say Lelie when he came out he's ahead of him, i'm not saying he's better than Lelie but his build allows him to be more physically ready than Lelie his rookie year & also allows him to hold up on blocks

another thing is the main thing we need out of a WR is over the middle & tough catches(whether he ducks out of bounds/slides afterwards or not)
i'd venture a guess he's atleast better than our current choices for #3

The guy caught everything at the combine. Sure his 40 was nice but when every other WR is dropping passes and he is catching everything he will stick out.

Jackson is the Alex Smith of Receivers this year. Talented, yes, but his high status is more a result of a lot of teams needing receivers and there being a dearth of them in the draft.

i personally just dont see much in Jackson, I hope we pass him up and grab Haas, Hagan, or Stovall later in the draft.

Funny how people look at things differently. I wouldn't take Chad Jackson in the first round. Of course, I wouldn't take any WR in this draft in the first round. I'd like Lendale at the first spot. Bunkley even more (but that's a pipe dream). Hell, I'd take Manny at that spot if he was the only one left. I'd take Lewis over Pope or DW. Man, people just love to fall in love with those juniors. I guess it's their "potential."

He has the size, he has the speed, and he does something that is very important for WRs to do, thats catch the ball. I think its unfair to say he sucks because the rest of the class is poor. If Sanders was coming out with a bunch of scrubs at DB does that mean he isn't worth drafting because he is the best of the scrubs? (note Im not saying he is as good as Deion)

Very true, i just dont see much in him, thats just me. Maybe i have my rosy galsses on with Hagan, but i have to.

And i didnt say he sucks.

I like Hagan as well, I was really high on him before he started dropping balls for whatever reason. Atleast with Jackson you get a guy that caught every ball pretty much going his way at the combine and I hear he has two working hands.

Jackson just came to the combine and put on a damn good show. .2% body fat, sub 4.4 speed, and ran good routes from what I read. Hes worth the risk IMO.

I'm not a Jackson fan - I think he's a workout warrior and vastly over-rated because the draft is weak at WR. I'd rather look WR in Round 2 (Stovall, Avant). I like DWII a lot but think we have more pressing needs than RB (DL, TE). I could live with him at #22 but not coupled with Jackson at #15. That would leave all our biggest needs still out there with only one more first day pick.

Maybe we could trade down a few spots and still get those 2 guys... However, I can't see us taking 2 offensive players with our 2 first round picks.

If you look at last years draft, Shanahan really targeted our team's glaring need with our first 3 picks and if you look at the team from last year the biggest problem was a lack of a pass rush... I just see Shanny using at least one of our 2 first round picks addressing that need... Which I think means either Hali or Kiwanuka with our pick at 22.

I'd hate the first pick. A running team with two decent WRs is not in dire straits when it comes to their WR corps. Wait until next year when you have guys who are 1st round picks because they're good, not because there's no one else.
