The Broncos won't have #32 if we draft Leinart. I would pass on Leinart at #22.

Good thing you're not the Broncos' GM. Of course, anybody who made decisions like that wouldn't even cut it as the Washington Generals' GM.

But you're on the short list for the job becuase you would give up 3 first round choices for a system QB that doesn't fit our system in the slightest?

I think the San Dimas high school football team is looking for a manager. You may qualify.

I wouldnt give up 3 first round picks for him. No chance of it, not even 2nd guessing myself. That is entirely to much to give up on a player and one that hasnt even taken 1 down in the NFL yet. This is sounding like the Hershal Walker trade that basicaly rebuilt the Cowboys and severly hurt the Vikings......

That's the funny thing about Mike Shanahan. He gets a better QB, he makes a different system to fit him. And what does he have to change? The zone blocking? Why? Leinart is smart, gets rid of the ball nice and quick, is more accurate than Jake, and is already primed to the Chow WCO. Mike designed a "system" to fit Elway, and he designed a "system" to fit Jake. It's the schmucks who do the opposite (try to hammer players into systems) who don't win Lombardis.

Yeah, that trade would suck. Shanny already said any QB we draft would be a backup, for team with needs, this makes ZERO sense.

agreed

When you look at the value you would be giving up to get the guy (Almost Ricky Williams type deal), you have to throw that one in the trash.

I really wouldnt mind Leinart, but I wouldnt want to give both or our 1's this season for him. Its just too much for a guy that might not have the skills that Cutler or Young have. We still havent even seen the guy workout at a pro day yet. He might be Aaron Rogers for all we know.

That take completely mystifies me. Ditka traded his whole draft for RW. This would be two firsts, plus next year's first for a franchise QB and the Saints' second. That would give the Broncos their QB of the future, two seconds in this draft, 3 fourths, a fifth and a sixth. Just off the top of my head, they could end up with Leinart, Donte Whitner(S), Mark Anderson (DE), a solid WR, RB & OG in the fourth, plus... As far as seeing Matt work out? I've been watching him "work out" for a couple of years. The guy I would most closely associate him with is Payton Manning, who can't run worth a damn either.

Uh that would equal our last years first this years and next year for an unproved player that has 2 bad knees and has a average arm (he reminds me of Drew Brees but I do like the guy and think he will be a good QB not a great QB somewhere).

"His stats (211-of-318, 66.4%, 3,017 yds, 23 TD, 7 int in 2005, plus 35 tcb, 34 yds, 1.0 avg, 5 TD), are better than last year, when he won the Heisman. Leinart is on pace to set 5 Pac Ten records, and be the all-time NCAA leader in lowest interception ratio, currently at 1.95%. Compared to last year, Leinart is throwing the ball further, and compared to Carson Palmer’s Heisman Trophy season, he’s throwing it smarter, too–not forcing the play and causing dumb mistakes and interceptions.

Compared to Vince Young, Leinart has more Touchdowns, fewer interceptions, fewer fumbles and 603 more yards through the air. And while Young has run the ball a heck of a lot–Leinart hasn’t had to because his skills in the position he plays were sufficient to make scrambling for his life unnecessary for Matt this year.

But what has impressed me most about Matt Leinart aren’t the gaudy numbers…it’s his character.

Matt has been a steady leader both on and off the field for the Trojans. He provides moral support for his teammates–running onto the field to greet Mario Danelo after a garbage-time PAT just as he does when the kicker scores in the first quarter. He doesn’t mind sharing the spotlight with Reggie Bush or any of the team’s future stars. He gives advice and leadership to backups John David Booty and Mike MacDonald when he could otherwise be sitting on the bench celebrating early.

And he has put up some of the best numbers in the country whilst under a media spotlight usually reserved for Hollywood celebrities. The pressure is on to perform in each and every game–and Leinart has stepped up…creating his own “Heisman Moment” by finding Dwayne Jarrett on 4th and 9 with the game on the line at Notre Dame.

Unlike Vince Young, who turned the ball over four times against Ohio State, Leinart won the game for his team–his team has never had to win it for him.

But when it all comes down to it, the most important decision Leinart made was last winter, when he decided to return for his Senior year. When other players could have cashed in on the John Heisman Award, Leinart said he wanted to come back and finish his education."

I just don't get the "Hate Leinart" campaign. Mystifiying.

It isnt the hating it is the whole package that you want to give up to take him. Now come on man you have to know that no one in this draft is worth 3 first round picks at this time. I think you are just trying to stir the pot.

I decided it was no fun just sitting on the fence. I want to pick a horse and run with it. I'm a Buffs fan and alum first (as far as college goes) but I grew up in SoCal and always loved the Pac10 (especially USC which was the team I rooted for in HS), so I watch every USC game that's televised in Denver. I honestly think that Leinart is a damn good QB and a big upgrade from Jake. I've read reports that call him slow, and even stupid, and frankly, I don't know where the hell it's coming from. Not in any of the games I've seen. He's not a running QB. He's a passing QB, and an excellent game manager, with lots of heart and lots of guts. I suspect it's eastcoasters who don't have a friggin clue and only saw the guy once, in the Rose Bowl. I don't blame that loss on Leinart for one reason: He doesn't play defense. 3 firsts might be a little rich for Matt, but I'm convinced the Broncos need to move this year on a QB. If they pulled the string on a deal like this, especially where they got back a high second pick, I'd be fine with it. If they did pull off a deal like this, I also have faith that Mike would figure a way to get a first pick back, if he needed it, next year.

I love Reggie. He is absolutely fantastic. Now let's list all the Heisman winning RBs that have led their teams to the SB. I'm not being a smart ass. I just believe QBs have a much bigger impact on the game than RBs. And the Broncos have a great ground game already.

Again this would make us give up a boatload to move up. Its just not worth it. 3 other very talented RB's are in this draft also.

Im sure that you had plenty of opportunities to watch him wobble around on his bad knees. That lack of mobility is going to get alot more "lack" and alot less "mobility".

He's not Carson Palmer by any stretch, and there's no way on earth he's worth three years worth of #1 draft picks.
