That was a horrible year for the Tigers, but a building block to where they are today.

I have tickets for the Reds/Tigers game this Sunday. Should be fun.

Reverted to their April ways? You're an idiot. They are 4-3 on a rigorous road trip. No team can keep a hot streak going like that in a 162 game season.

Bochy has always fared well when the talent was there.

Have fun at the game South Stands.

I give a lot of the credit to Dave Dombrowski. He was responsible for a good portion of the Expos' success in the mid-90s and rebuilding two Marlins championship teams. He drew a lot of criticism for throwing money at Pudge and Ordonez, but I thought they were solid moves considering the Tigers were on the back pages of the Detroit Free Press in the Motor City. For the longest time in the 1990s, Sparky Anderson couldn't get any help from the dry farm system. They now have a good blend of both veteran and homegrown talent.

Safeco Field is so tough on right-handed hitters. When you see Sexson and Beltre struggling almost two months in, it makes you appreciate Lopez's start so much more.

The Tigers had to throw money at Pudge and Ordonez and take the risk, it was the only way they could attract top level free agents to Detroit at the time. Kenny Rogers looks to be another signing that is paying off. Every time I see the guy in the dugout he is mentoring the young pitching staff and giving advice.

Verlander and Zumuya are products of the farm system and both look to be flat out future studs. It is nice to see, to say the least.

Rockies sweep of the Blue Jays ties them with their best record after 44 games with the '95 team. This week will be an important road trip with 6 games at LA and SF.

Wow. 16 Ks for Jake Peavy through seven innings tonight, but he's getting outdueled 2-0 by John Smoltz.

Justin Verlander was dominant tonight. He was still throwing 99 mph in the 9th inning.

9 IP 5 hits 0 runs 1 walk and 7 Ks.

Verlander is now 6-3 with a 2.70 ERA on the year.

"That's as good a stuff as I've seen in a long time," Royals manager Buddy Bell said. "His total command was exceptional."

"My last at-bat he was 99 on the black," said Doug Mientkiewicz, who struck out for the second out in the ninth. "Goodness gracious. That's as good as stuff as I've seen."

How in the hell did he not strike anyone out in one of his recent starts (can't remember which)?

Just wanted to give up some props to the Dodgers. They were blasted last year for the acquisitions of Drew and Penny, and both are leading the way this year. Still worried that the season may take its toll on guys like Drew, Kent, Lofton and Nomar, but so far they are doing well in a very competetive West. Has any division ever finished with every team at or above .500?

The Tigers have battled back from a 6-0 hole to take a 9-8 lead in the 9th.

This team is something else.
