I know there is a thread about NCAA basketball but I need to brag about my undergrad/grad school a little (besides I think I am the only GMU alumni on this board)!

I thought it would be on later and completely missed it, I was watching Bristol racing. Damn NASCAR. All 4 #1's fell. Huge upset.

After my kickball game, the whole league was sitting in the bar stunned....I thought they would keep the game close but jeez....this is amazing for a school that doesn't get blue chip prospects...

From a big time UConn fan whose heart bleeds Blue and White, congrats to George Mason. Forget the talk of UConn choking or not playing up to its level or anything like that, flat out, George Mason won the game. They outhustled UConn, out-hearted them, outexecuted them and outplayed them. George Mason was not only the better team today than UConn but proven to be a better team than UConn throughout this tournament. I'm proud of the effort UConn showed despite the haters - truth is they are just kids who played to the best of their abilities today, but George Mason played a little better. They are only a Cinderella because of what conference they come, the Coloniel Athletic Association and of their little tourney history before today, but they have a NATIONAL GAME AND DESERVE TO BE THERE. Congrats. I will be personally rooting for them, coach Larranaga is one of the good guys in the profession - I met him once at the Nike Camp a couple of summers ago, what a classy guy. |

real happy for my undergrad...although my grad school GW got hosed with the #8 seed.
Still, this GMU team is a joy to watch. Jai Lewis is a future NFL TE if he doesn't make it in the NBA. He has great hands and is really nimble for a guy that big. |

Ray, what do you think about the chances of a national title? It's kind of hard to think that George freakin' Mason could be the champion. I think they might be able to get past Florida, but probably lose to LSU or UCLA. The other part of me says that if they can beat UCONN, MSU, and UNC...all great tourney teams, they can beat anyone. They need to neutralize that pest Joakim Noah from FL, good player but still a pest. |

For GM to defeat Florida, they will need to prevent Noah and Hortford from controlling the lanes (they have been playing much better than Armstrong and Boone of UConn).
They are both quicker inside than the UConn tandem and Corey Brewer is a nice young SF for their team. They need to keep an eye on Lee Humphrey cuz that guy can shoot. Overall, Florida is a much quicker team that UConn, especially on the perimeter but w/ that said, George Mason, as long as they gat a nice distribution of points from their five starters, they have a great chance to win the game. The key will be which backcourt plays better. Which one does I think will determine the winner. |

I know a lot of people dont like Calhoun, even Marcus Williams and my boy Rashad Anderson, but hear them after the game and they were nothing but classy. Calhoun is also good friends w/ Larranaga, who coached once upon a time where Calhoun played college ball at, American International.
"We couldn't get a stop," UConn point guard Marcus Williams said. "We just couldn't. That's only the second time a team has shot 50 percent against us ... They beat us on the glass. They went after every loose ball. They made big shots." It's very impressive," UConn senior guard Rashad Anderson said of the Patriots' run. "It's just one of those things. They beat us fair and square." "They had to take on Michigan State, Carolina, a really good Wichita State team and the University of Connecticut in overtime," UConn coach Jim Calhoun said afterward. "I feel very, very positive for Jimmy, who is a friend of mine. I wish them well and they will really enjoy the Final Four." |

Here we go Mason here we go! I was at the game and my voice is absolute torn from the screaming. Then we hit the Patriot Center for the welcome back rally! The campus was freaking out last night. Next victim: FLORIDA! |

furniture thrown out of windows fire extinguishers randomly sprayed throughout the halls an inordinate amount of firecracker explosiongs (set by the freshmen, who else?) cars beeping off and on into the night My RA buddy got punched out for breaking up one of many massive parties. Everyone is hungover. There's a general message going out to all the professors not to be too strict with class attendance today!!! (so this is what it's like to go to the Final Four) ![]() |

UNC-Wilmington grad (and fan) here.
Congrats to the Mason boys...it looks good for the CAA and will bring more talent to all the teams. I was pulling for you yesterday for sure. I know my Seahawks are thinking "what if's" right now...we split the regular season championship with you guys and we won the conf. tourney....but we got sent home in Rnd 1 and you're in the Final Four! Congrats again to George Mason! |
