Make a garden out of it. Plant some tomatos or pepers or something.

Nah...has to be mostly flowers...(I sneak peppers in there sometimes...) The Townhouse Association frowns upon vegetable gardens because they can view them from the parking lot...stupid if you ask me...some veggies flower, too.

Yeah Always flowers...I was just looking for some different ones...I always seem to put the same thing in there...of course, the daisies stay as do the lilies as they are perennials.

The other thread was taking forever to load so I started a new one...Here's a start to my garden. Not sure how much I dare plant yet though. I'm also not sure what do to with the mini rose bush...I don't have any luck with those outside. Anyone a rose expert here? Pez? Blue?

Not really an expert on rose bushes... I only have the wild roses that grow almost everywhere around here... I'm guessing you could find some tips online on how to plant/take care of the miniature rosebush...

If that were my flowerbed, I'd probably think it needed some petunias and pansies...

I have purple pansies, yellow daisies, orange and purple (some type of daisy), hot pink snapdragons, white verbena...for a start. I also ordered tulips and planted a few glad bulbs in assorted colors. I have a couple of lilies, red columbine, a blush peony bush, lavendar, shasta daisies, some other pink flowers and a couple that are "vine roses"...not sure what those are. I also picked up a "Blush Tea Rose" at Kmart for $4.

Sassy, I have 5 rose bushes in the backyard and they have much success here in the good soil where I live. I regularly have to trip them back to their base in January (our only real cool time of year) and let them raise from there. I also put down a special rose soil so that they can get deeper roots from the getgo. When trimming rosebushes btw, it actually promotes healthier blooms because the plant energy is being put to stronger stems and buds which in turn makes for better roses.

Now, as for mini roses, I had a yellow rose bush in Colorado and it was damn near impossible to kill once I put it down. Just be sure to clip off those deadheads and try and shape it to a good shape every few weeks and I think you'll love it.

Tom H, fanfreakingtastic pictures guy! I love the poppy photo. What kind of camera were you using?

Thanks! I was shooting pics for my mom. She's a painter and needed some flowers.

I used a Canon 5D with a 200/2.8
The others were shot with a 10D. I used a 28/2.8 for the Dove.

Thought it looked like L glass there Tom! How do you like the 5D? I would love playing with a full-frame sensor but I'm stuck with a 1.3 crop factor with my 1dMark II. Its an ok tradeoff I guess.

Keep em coming Tom!

Meck, you are my personal hero with all things bbq. You know that right?

Speaking of flowers, here's some from spring here in California.
These pictures were from the Carrizo Plain Nat Monument

Well, get to it! I need a fellow shutterbug to chat with on these trips since the wifey isnt much for long drives to the middle of nowhere... unless I bribe her with some good food at the end of the trip. Do you shoot by yourself quite a bit Tom?

Here's some pix of the poppies up near Lancaster this spring too. My first trip up there btw. It was awesome!
