Default Cap Space-4.57 Million????

RMN reports we have only 4.57 Million in workable cap space. What happened? We started with almost 11 million, but I thought Warren was still counting 7 million against the cap. This is not enough room for Carter, Lewis and a slew of draft picks.

I think that is including the draft picks in that. Meaning they already took the money out for the draft picks and 4.57 is left on FA.

Read the article, Legwold guesses at how much he thinks it'll take to sign the rookies and subtracts from there.

Have we even heard much on how Warren's deal breaks down? I'm highly sceptical of all the local reports about our cap, they've been inconsistant all off-season.

I don't think teams go out of their way to let everyone know how much cap space they have - otherwise it could undermine their negotiating position. they are more than happy for rumour and speculation to muddy the waters...

We don't know exactly how the deals are structured and what counts against the cap and what doesn't for the most part, so we generally have to just cross our fingers and hope!

Exactly. I'm not certain that it was one lump sum of $10million signing bonus, and if that is the case then the cap number will be affected.

I think a few years ago we had just a couple of million to play with under the cap and the team managed to sign Plummer/Gardener with combined signing bonuses of around $14 million.

If I had to guess then I would say we could afford two players in FA who would each cost around 5 to 7 million to sign but ofcourse all of that means nothing considering we haven't asked anybody to restructure yet which could loosen up the purse strings.

As best as I can tell, the only time the cap number really becomes an issue is at the "start" of the "new" league year. After that, all sorts of possibilities and options are available to creative teams with which to absolutely confuse the fans and other teams. Everything is a guess until the last day of the "old" league year.

I have never known that lack of cap space being a barrier to the practice of FA skullduggery by any team, and I think the Broncos are masters at it. Hence, I think money is not really an object in terms of the cap; it is more of an object in terms of the internal teams' overall budget.

Don't worry, be happy. Just belly up to the dotted line and sign, sign, sign.
