NFL | Heyward tumor returns
Fri, 10 Mar 2006 20:51:27 -0800

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports former NFL RB Craig Heyward is in the hospital fighting for his life after a brain tumor returned. He will undergo surgery Monday, March 13, following the recent news that a tumor, called a chordoma, had returned. The rare, slow-growing tumors tend to recur, sometimes more aggressively, after their initial removal. The five-year survival rate for patients with chordomas is 50 percent, said Dr. Chris Krubert, of the Apollo MD Physician Services of Atlanta; odds drop to 35 percent after 10 years.

Thats too bad. I hope that Ironhead pulls through.

Sounds like Alzado. Seems like people are dropping like flies this month.

It's virtually impossible to cure. You can't just fry his brain with radiation, and chemo doesn't work without similar effects, and surgury, well, your going into Frankenstein territory. Bad deal of the cards for him.

No disrespect at all, but if he took steroids, he should speak out like Lyle Alzado did before he pased. Noone would hold it against him. I'm not making accusations either. He might save lives in the future.

Ironhead didn't need steroids, but he did burn the candle at both ends.
