The Evening Report Wednesday, March 8, 2006 by minibronco ENOUGH MONEY? Colts | Team might have enough space to re-sign E. James D. Orlando Ledbetter, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports the Indianapolis Colts might have enough salary cap space to re-sign RB Edgerrin James, who is expected to become an unrestricted free agent. The Colts, along with every other NFL team, gained $7.5 million in salary cap space as a result of the collective bargaining agreement extension Wednesday, March 8. The new salary cap for the 2006 season is $102 million. JUST VISITING? Jets | Ramsey visits with team Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports Washington Redskins QB Patrick Ramsey met with New York Jets officials Wednesday, March 8. Ramsey also met with Jets head coach Eric Mangini at the team's complex. The Redskins are allowing Ramsey to seek a trade. Because he is in the final season of his contract, it is likely any team interested in trading for him would want him to sign an extension before the trade is complete. OR JUST LEAVING? Eagles | McNabb and Trotter face parking charges in April NBC10.com reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb and LB Jeremiah Trotter are scheduled to appear in municipal court April 5 to face charges that they parked illegally in spots reserved for the disabled. Both were citied for failing to show up to an earlier hearing. A woman whose grown child has autism photographed the trucks belonging to Trotter and McNabb parked illegally in front of the Landmark Americana sports bar. McNabb's doctor wrote a note saying his client was hospitalized on the date of the infraction and was not the driver of the truck. The bar's owner wrote a note saying nearby construction forced Trotter to use the handicapped spots. PRO DAY RESULTS NCAA | Shelton Pro Day results Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Notre Dame WR Matt Shelton ran his 40s in 4.43 and 4.42 seconds at his Pro Day workout Wednesday, March 8 NCAA | Stovall Pro Day results Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Notre Dame WR Maurice Stovall ran his 40s in 4.54 and 4.57 seconds at his Pro Day workout Wednesday, March 8. He also had a 32 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-4 broad jump. NCAA | Fasano Pro Day results Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Notre Dame TE Anthony Fasano ran his 40s in 4.74 and 4.71 seconds at his Pro Day workout Wednesday, March 8. He looked very good in the position drills. NCAA | Calhoun improves his 40 time Jeff Potrykus, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports University of Wisconsin RB Brian Calhoun ran his 40-yard dash in a blazing 4.38 seconds at his Pro Day Wednesday, March 8. Calhoun had been clocked unofficially with disappointingly slow times of 4.59 and 4.62 at the NFL Combine last month in Indianapolis. NCAA | Bing training to improve running Billy Witz, of the Los Angeles Daily News, reports USC S Darnell Bing is training to improve his speed, quickness, and explosiveness in an effort to impress NFL scouts at his Pro Day next month. If Bing can cut several tenths of a second from his time in speed and agility drills, it could mean a six-figure difference in his contract. COACHING UPDATES Raiders | I. Eatman will be co-offensive line coach Phil Barber, of the San Francisco Press Democrat, reports Oakland Raiders assistant coach Irv Eatman will be the team's co-offensive line coach. THE CBA AND YOU NFL | Upshaw agrees to push back free agency ESPN.com reports after announcing the new NFL labor agreement, the NFL asked the players' union to push back the start of free agency from 12:01 a.m. ET Friday, March 10, to 12:01 a.m. ET Saturday, March 11. Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players' Association, told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that since the NFL has approved the labor proposal, he will grant the NFL's request to push back free agency. Upshaw told Mortensen that while he has not yet actually granted the delay, he planned to do so. The formal announcement of the extension will likely come Thursday, March 9. NFL | Some teams will not contribute to player pool Dave Goldberg, of the Associated Press, reports the 17 lowest revenue teams will not contribute to the player pool, as part of the new collective bargaining agreement. The pool will be funded by the top five teams in revenue contributing the most, the second five contributing less, and the third five teams contributing less than the top 10. Low-income teams claimed high-revenue franchises should contribute proportionately to the player pool because they can earn more income through advertising and local radio rights. Bills | R. Wilson did not understand new CBA Dave Goldberg, of the Associated Press, reports Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson was one of the two owners who voted against the new collective bargaining agreement. Wilson claimed he was unable to understand the proposal. Wilson said, "It is a very complicated issue and I didn't believe we should be rushing to vote in 45 minutes. I'm not a dropout ... or maybe I am. I didn't understand it." CBA | Bengals and Bills vote against CBA ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills were the two teams to vote against the new NFL collective bargaining agreement. NFL | New CBA passes by a 30-2 vote ESPN.com reports NFL owners approved a six-year extension of the collective bargaining agreement by a vote of 30-2 Wednesday night, March 8. NFL | Owners approve new labor deal ESPNews reports NFL owners have approved the NFLPA's offer for a new collective bargaining agreement. The extension will last six years and take the league through the 2011 season. It is unknown what the salary cap will be for the 2006 season, but it will be higher than the previously reported $94.5 million. NEWBS AND I NCAA | Bush unlikely to earn as much as A. Smith Billy Witz, of the Los Angeles Daily News, reports USC RB Reggie Bush is unlikely to get a deal close to what San Francisco 49ers QB Alex D. Smith received as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft if there is no collective bargaining agreement in place. Smith was given a six-year contract worth $49.5 million with half of that amount guaranteed. It would be nearly impossible for Bush to get that because most of the guaranteed money would count against the salary cap for the 2006 season. YOU'RE CUT! Lions | Payne waived DetroitLions.com reports the Detroit Lions have waived CB Brandon Payne. Last edited by minibronco; 03-09-2006 at 12:14 AM.. |
