So many here (including me) pretty much cursed the ground that Gene Upshaw walks on. However in lieu of recent events, his hard-balling the league is pretty much what the doctor ordered. He gambled and had it not worked out we could all say "I told you so!"

It did work, and his players have a greater portential to make many in what is one of the most dangerous sports. Good for Gene and good for the players.

So you think Upshaw going to Hawaii on frequent flyer miles in the last minutes was appropriate?

I guess the further away way he was the better.

He sure does. He did a great job for the players. They should be real happy with him.

Actully, I think that was a brilliant move. Rather than lurking around acting nervous he put his proposal out there and then headed for a little R&R it was almost like saying if you take it fine, if you dont fine. If you were doing a contentious business deal with someone and they gave you and offer and then said well im off to Hawaii to relax go ahead and look that over and get back to me by wed. I'm sure it would put a little more pressure on you and you wouldn't feel like you were dealing from a postion of strength.
