Default League and NFLPA getting closer on revenue split with players

ESPN.com reports the NFL and the NFLPA are getting closer on how much revenue would be split with players. NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw was originally seeking 60.3 percent, but the NFL was only offering 56.2 percent. The NFL has increased their offer to between 58.2 percent and 58.5 percent. An NFLPA source claims the league's best offer never got to the 58 percent range. Late Saturday, March 4, Upshaw told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the union did come down "a little" from their 60 percent stance.

I think I heard someone say that the owners were willing to "split the difference" and that is what they seemed to have done. My concernt is that Upshaw might think he''s got them on the run and hold out for 59.9%.

How much revenue on do teams on average make?

I guess my question is, I know we're talking millions of dollars, but how much impact does say, .5% have? Obviously it's a lot, hence the major fight over it, but I'm just curious as to how much a fraction of a percent might represent in dollars.

Well it has to be pretty substantial or they wouldn't bother trying to get it.

It's said that 1% equals around 80 million dollars.

So 56.5% that the owners are offering compared to the 60% that the players want is around 280-320 million dollars difference.

Wow, that is quite a bit of money. I mean, like Bronx said, it's gotta be a lot or we wouldn't have this fight in the first place, but yeah... that is a lot of 0's.

Upshaw can go lick nuts if this doesn't get done. The league is trying to meet him halfway but if he wants to be an ass about it, I hope the league tells him to go flip sand.

It's all about the non-guaranteed contracts stuff, the NFLPA wants a bigger salary cap, if a cap at all, so the players can make more money while they are still healthy and in their prime.

Shaun Alexander may only have 3 good years in him if an injury bug bites and he gets released, but the NFLPA wants to make sure he gets a bigger amount of money for those 3 years than the current deal would have him make
