Colts still spending money, June tendered
INDIANAPOLIS The Indianapolis Colts offered Pro Bowl linebacker Cato June a one-year tender of more than one-and-a-half (m) million dollars today.
The move comes as the team attempts to keep their starting linebacker corps intact next season.
June's agent has confirmed the deal.
The linebacker can still negotiate with other teams as a restricted free agent. But now Indy can match any deal June signs or receive draft compensation from the team he signs with.
It's the team's second move in two days to shore up its defense.
Yesterday, the Colts agreed to a multiyear deal with Gary Brackett, another starting linebacker. Bracket was their leading tackler last season with 131.
David Thornton is the third member of the Colts linebackers. He's still set to become an unrestricted free agent Monday.
Mathis was also tendered with the $2.069m 1 year deal ( 1st & 3rd rd compensation)
Indy were $6-10m over the cap before they re-signed Brackett.
