INDIANAPOLIS — The NFL's 2006 salary cap likely will be announced on Monday, an NFL source told Scout.com.
According to the source, the cap will be set at $95 million per team, on the high end of the $92-95 million figures that have been under discussion. These same sources told Scout.com that members of one NFL organization are telling their staff that there is a very strong chance the Collective Bargaining Agreement will be extended by the March 3 deadline. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5361662 Breaking News: Agreement on CBA on the Way? By Scout.com Date: Feb 25, 2006 Breaking news about the CBA and the 2006 salary cap! An NFL source has told Scout.com that the 2006 salary cap will be announced on Monday, February 27. 2006's cap, according to this source, will be $95 million. This is on the high end of what was expected - most estimates were anywhere from $92 to $95 million. Atlanta Falcons GM Rich McKay, who co-chairs the Competition Committee and has long been a major player in league matters, talked to the media on Saturday about the possible extension to the Collective Bargaining Agreement that would greatly affect how cap money is spent. McKay said that the teams remain hopeful that there will be an extension, despite Player’s Association head Gene Upshaw's recent comments that agents should negotiate as if there will be no extension. McKay also said that without a new deal, the March 3 free agency deadline will not be pushed back. McKay said that it would be "extremely difficult" to operate without an extension. Without a cap, McKay said that the "tricks of the trade" will all drop into this year's cap, affecting cap room. Contracts would only be able to be four years long and he thinks trades will be less likely because of accelerated bonuses. He also expects free agency would be slower. But in late-breaking news on this matter, Seahawks.NET has been informed by our Scout.com source at the Combine that members of one NFL organization are telling their staff that there is a very strong chance that the CBA will be extended by the deadline. Significant recent progress has been made, according to our source. http://seahawks.scout.com/2/502826.html ![]() Last edited by ICON; 02-27-2006 at 03:00 PM.. |

POSTED 1:39 p.m. EST, February 27, 2006 CBA IS "DONE," BUT . . . . A league source tells us that a deal between the NFL and the NFL Players Association on an extension to the Collective Bargaining Agreement is "done," and that the only thing keeping the thing from being signed and sealed is the absence of a firm arrangement among owners regarding an expansion of revenue sharing. The only remaining problem is that the new CBA replaces "Defined Gross Revenues" (i.e., the stuff that has been shared by the 32 teams for years) with "Total Football Revenues" (i.e., every penny earned). And if every penny earned, including stuff that isn't currently shared, goes into the formula for determining the salary cap, the problem is that the low-earning teams will see their individual cap numbers influenced by the much bigger money being raked in by other teams. Stay tuned. It's looking more and more like it's only a matter of time before the owners work this thing out. As they should. |

QUOTE Put it this way - if I wasn't 100% certain as to the accuracy of this report, there's no way in hell I would publish it. We are trying with all our might to rise above the "rumor site/nothing but a message board" perception. To my knowledge, this is an exclusive on the cap and the CBA news, and I was asked by Scout.com directly to publish this as I wrote it. QUOTE |

$95 million was the figure Upshaw quoted if there wasn't a CBA extension. He quoted a cap of approx $102-$104 million if there was a deal done.

From KFFL this morning.......
Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the NFL appears on the verge of reaching agreement on a new labor pact with its players union. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday, Feb. 27, that progress has been made. An agreement reached this week would likely delay the start of the free-agent signing period, which is scheduled to begin Friday, March 3. Jones said negotiations between the league and the NFL Players Association could continue until Thursday, March 2. |

I was really getting pissed at Upshaw. He's such a tool.
Glad to see it's close. Let's sign this baby. Get all the info to the teams. Denver cut and rework the deals. Get under the cap. Get Edge or RW34 or T.O. some linemen and let's roll! |

Owners to conference Tuesday on CBA negotiations
By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com click this Amid indications that there has been some progress in talks aimed at extending the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, league owners are tentatively scheduled to meet Tuesday via conference call to discuss the status of negotiations. Two owners said Monday afternoon that they have delayed their departures from Indianapolis, site of the NFL scouting combine since Wednesday, to accommodate the timing of the conference call. "In this case," one AFC owner said, "any news would be good news." The scheduling of the conference call might be the most concrete sign yet to substantiate whispers that the NFL and NFL Players' Association, who have been discussing the proposed extension for more than a year, have finally made some headway in breaking the inertia that has marked negotiations. Without the add-on, the 2007 season would become a so-called uncapped year with no spending limit and no minimum, and players could potentially face a lockout in 2008. Team officials and player agents have said that doing business without an extension -- particularly with the free agent signing period set to begin Friday and the draft on April 29-30 -- will prove virtually impossible. Because of the extreme circumstances that would exist with an uncapped year on the horizon, it would be difficult to meet the financial expectations of free agents and high-round draft choices. Compounding the situation is that several franchises are in the throes of salary cap overages and will find it difficult, if not painful, to come into cap compliance for 2006 without an extension. If an extension is not struck before Friday, several cap managers acknowledged, there figures to be many veteran players purged from rosters in the next few days. Among the owners who have expressed optimism that an 11th-hour deal will be hammered out is Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys. "I think that we'll likely have a deal," Jones told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Monday. Other owners and team officials allowed there have been rumblings of progress and that they feel an extension will be in place before the end of the week. "I've said sanity will ultimately prevail," an owner of an AFC team said. "Hopefully, we're getting to that point. This has always been a deadline league and the clock is ticking. Smart people from both sides know that we all need this. I mean, why kill the golden goose?" If a deal is struck before Friday, it is likely the start of free agency would be delayed at least a week in order to allow teams to recalculate their cap status. NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw insisted last week he will not delay the free agency timetable. That stance aside, Upshaw might reconsider if an accord that extends the CBA also means a significantly higher spending limit for 2006. Still to be resolved as well is the issue of revenue sharing among the league's 32 franchises. Given the increasing disparity between the high revenue teams and those at the bottom of the earning chart, the issue is a significant one and the subject of considerable debate. But there are signs that some owners are ready to reach a deal with the NFLPA before proceeding to a battle over revenue-sharing models. Upshaw has said he will not agree to an extension of the collective bargaining agreement before owners are in agreement on revenue sharing, but some owners believe the battle over revenue sharing will be contentious and drawn out. They also suggest the union will ultimately agree to the extension -- even without a revenue-sharing deal -- assuming the numbers are right. "They both have to get done," Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney said, "but they don't necessarily both have to get done at the same time." Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com. |

A league source tells us that the NFL previously promised to disseminate on Monday the official crop report (a/k/a salary cap numbers) for 2006, and that the league ultimately failed to do so. This development has prompted increased speculation among league insiders that a new CBA is imminent, since an extension would require the team-by-team salary maximums to be re-calculated pursuant to the formula set forth in the new agreement. We've previously heard that the new CBA will determine the cap numbers based on a percentage of "Total Football Revenue." Current thinking in some circles is that the number will be 59 percent, and that the salary cap will be between $100 million and $110 million per team for 2006. Raw revenue numbers suggest an even higher number, but we're told that there are certain deductions that will be made before the 59 percent figure is applied. Anyway, brace yourself for what looks to be an inevitable announcement that peace and harmony will continue in a sport premised upon anything but. |

Anything over $100M and Denver is under simply by cutting Pryce. Money is further saved by re-signing Lepsis and Warren, then Denver would move on to Bailey, Rod, Jake, and Wilson.

Once that's done and the restructuring is complete, the Broncos should have a nice chunk of change to work with in free agency. |

![]() They have been working with Warren since the middle of the year, and Lepsis wants to be here. So id gander thigns are close to being done. Pryce was a man and took a cut last year, but 2 years in a row? I highly doubt it. His production doesnt nearly equal what he is due to get. I just hope we cut him tho, make the attempt to reduce his salary so we look like good guys, but just cut him and let his Houdini act go somewhere else. |
