Default Is this racist? Am I over reacting?

Taken from: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...nfl/index.html

In 1999, Donovan McNabb scored 12 on the Wonderlic Test. Akili Smith scored 15, Daunte Culpepper scored both a 15 and a 21. The year before, Charlie Batch had a 12 and a 15 and Aaron Brooks scored 17. ? -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

I was reading about Young’s Wonderlic test score, followed a link from another thread and read the above.

Why is Young only compaired to other black QB’s? WTF?
Plenty of Dumb ass white boys have failed, What are there scores?
What about Ryan Leaf, Heath Shueler, Tim Couch, Cade McNown, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsey? (Just to name a few)
Why would anyone in there right mind put Charlie Batch’s name on the list? Unless you were reaching for black QB’s why in the world would his name come up? The guy is nobody.

Am I over reacting? This just pissed me off.

Is it coincidence that they are mostly all black? Was just comparing low scores?

Well, in the first place, the test is culturally biased.

I imagine they were making the comparison because Young is black. Comparing to other black NFL QBs is not racist. Its analytical comparison.

Now had Young been white, Im sure they would have made the comparisons with all white QBs.

I think it's reverse discrimination. I mean, so ok dante, mcnair, brooks, vick, and donovan are stupid. But, unlike white guys, they can succeed while being stupid! That's not fair. there should be a law....

why culturally biased?

as in, it's not in these athletes culture to pay attention to education or make the slightest attempt to be even remotely articulate?

Depending on your perspective, I think you could construe it as somewhat racist. At the very least, it seems like the author is specifically comparing the test results of black quarterbacks only. Not sure why you would do that unless you were trying to make some kind of point or advance a particular agenda.

I hear this "culturaly biased" alot actualy i think it is way over used. How is a test askin you "if rope cost 0.20 a foot, how much can you buy for $3.00" biased?

Maybe that article taken from the Milwaukee Journal was about race and the test, that is the only thing I can think of. That was a bunch of pieces of articles mashed together.

#4 asks which names are identical to each other.

#3 asks how much 4 pads of paper costs at 21 cents a piece.

Hmm, not sure I get your point.

To me this is about being a QB in the NFL.
I am not a Texas fan, on the final plat against USC I was pulling for Young to run the wrong way, or fall down and bust his arm, something like that.

But the fact is he is one of the most exciting players to in the draft. Compare to him to other QB's who have lead there teams to the National titles, QB's who have lead last minute come backs, other QB's who have simular numbers.

Not oh he is black, lets compare him to Charlie Batch. Who the !@#$ is Charlie Batch?

Shut up black boy.

More from the artcle:

In the last six seasons, the only solid quarterback prospects with extremely low Wonderlic scores were Seneca Wallace (10), who was drafted by Seattle in the fourth round in 2003, and Tee Martin (11), who went to Pittsburgh in the fifth round in '00.
In 1999, Donovan McNabb scored 12, Akili Smith scored 15 and Daunte Culpepper scored both a 15 and a 21. The year before, Charlie Batch had a 12 and a 15 and Aaron Brooks scored 17. Southern California's Matt Leinart scored 35 on Friday, according to sources. The other top quarterback in the upcoming draft, Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler, had 26 in April. Almost all of the quarterbacks taken in the first round in the last decade scored 20 or more. The average score by 26 quarterbacks who took the test last spring was 23.35.

McNabb scored a 12!?! Wow. He always seemed like a fairly bright guy to me.

Have you guys seen the Wonderlic test? Check it out. It'll put some perspective on that score.
