ONITSHA, Nigeria (Reuters) - Christian youths burned the corpses of Muslims on Thursday on the streets of Onitsha in southeastern Nigeria, the city worst hit by religious riots that have killed at least 146 people across the country in five days.

Christian mobs, seeking revenge for the killings of Christians in the north, attacked Muslims with machetes, set fire to them, destroyed their houses and torched mosques in two days of violence in Onitsha, where 93 people died.

"We are very happy that this thing is happening so that the north will learn their lesson," said Anthony Umai, a motorcycle taxi rider, standing close to where Christian youths had piled up the corpses of 10 Muslims and were burning them.

Dozens more corpses had been thrown into the back of pick-up trucks by security services overnight, residents said.

Uncertainty over Nigeria's political future is aggravating regional, ethnic and religious rivalries in Africa's most populous nation and top oil exporter.

Elections are due next year and many Nigerians believe President Olusegun Obasanjo and some state governors will try to stay on after eight years in power. The prospect angers those who want their own ethnic or regional blocs to have their turn.

Militants in the oil-producing Niger Delta have waged a three-month campaign of attacks and kidnappings, which has cut exports and driven up world oil prices. One of their demands is greater control over their region and its resources.

There was no fighting in Onitsha on Thursday but Emeka Umeh, of human rights group the Civil Liberties Organization, called it "the peace of the graveyard."

Some charred corpses were still lying on the streets and hundreds of Muslim men, women and children fled the city crammed into open-top trucks for fear of more killings. Thousands more were hiding in army barracks and police stations.

Umeh said most of the bodies his group counted were Hausa, but some Ibo were killed too. The Hausa are the main ethnic group in northern Nigeria and most are Muslim, while the Ibo are dominant in the southeast and almost all are Christian.

Security challenge for in next 20 years will not be China, it will the fixing the problems of Africa. It only going to get worse as nations seek at natural resource to continue to keep production lines going and cheap labor pools.

They already have. They struck first.

None of this is good, and none of it is attributable to Christianity. These are not monks in monasteries, these are regular people driven to extreme acts. There is no promise of virgins and gold in heaven for Christians who kill people from other faiths, there is judgment from God that awaits. Christians (save Phelpy boy and maybe the half-senile Pat Robertson) do not condone killing anyone, including your enemies. Jesus commanded us specifically to pray for them.

I think that these people are experiencing the literal culture war in Africa that has been happening for ages.

They have. Christians in Muslim societies worldwide have been the subject of almost constant attacks for years. Churches burned, people killed, missionary work is forbidden, conversion to Christianity can be punished by death. It's a global phenomenon that gets very little play in the press. Maybe you missed it, but even in this story this violence followed events in Northern Nigeria where Muslims killed over 1500 Christians. In most places where Islam is the dominant religion, they do not tolerate religious dissent.

The "COMBAT" refers to SPIRITUAL warefare referred to in the book of Ephesians where various items of armour are mentioned...ie; "swore of the Spirit"..."shield of faith"...etc. C-O-M-B-T according to the web site stands for "Committment"..."Obedience"..."Mind"..."Body"..."Attitude"..."Testimony", none of which has anything to do with military style assault. The only identifying mark of real combat is two hours worth of instruction in handguns and shotguns...something you can also take at a lot of community centers or even through your local police department. The founder traces his interest in this to his participation in the US Army and associated disciplinary benefits.

I also read the info on his behavior toward his daughter...if true it's disturbing to say the least...but hardly qualifies as a reason to label this camp, which consists of two days of typical camp-type stuff including bonfire church services and Bible classes as "terrorist" activity. Even the address and directions to the place are on the website, so it's obviously not some out in the woods secret training facility. Check out the "terrorists" below...scarry looking bunch huh? ...more like the Brady Bunch meets Weight Watchers...

No doubt...I've been following this situation for a while...heres from last fall (its actually from 04, but I've seen scenarios where unrest in Nigeria could drive oil to $98,whereas problems in Iraq only drivign them in the low 80s))
