HBO's Gumbel: Lack of Blacks Makes Olympics 'Look Like a GOP Convention'

"Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. There is more to life than hoop, football and hip hop music....Maybe he ought to be out role modeling that message rather than making a political stir. And then maybe someday the Winter Olymipics won't be too white for him. Just a thought.

Because, you know, everyone knows that a lot of black people try out for the winter olympics, and get turned down because the color of their skin.

Maybe we should try and get a program going where we send a bunch of black people up to Alaska and get them training in winter sports. By the 2030 Winter games, we should really see some progress.

That comment is just so stupid, I can't believe it. And what's worse is that it sounds prepared - so it isn't just a live show where he said something that he would take back, if he could.
